2014: Wii U’s Year to Shine

The Wii U is currently on a path of recover, which is mostly in-part due to the September 20th price drop that happened earlier this Fall. Nintendo has miraculously managed to actually get the system moving in Europe and even Japan, which prior to this season was an extremely difficult task for the company.

But it’s going to take more than one successful holiday season to consider the system officially in the clear. As we saw with the first 45 days of the Wii U’s life, the system sold extremely well. But once 2013 rolled around, it sunk faster than Rosie O’Donnel in a swimming pool. So no system is ever automatically set to succeed all because it has isolated moments of glory.

I doubt we'll see 3 of this titles next year X, SMT x FE and Zelda U.

Concertoine3805d ago

unfortunately me neither, not sure why people disagree.
X will take a while to localize and we havent seen any of SMT x FE since it was announced almost a year ago. zelda U will definitely be a 2015 release since we probably won't see any of it until e3 2014

EcoSos33805d ago

I dont worry about the disagrees, but yes Im not getting my hopes up for those games coming out next year even more when Nintendo said that they are only showing Zelda at E3 nothing else. SMT X FE we havent even seen nothing on it, now X that one might be early 2015.

Metallox3805d ago

Satoru Iwata said that X will be released for Wii U in 2014, even in the Western Nintendo E3 Direct, but, who knows. As for SMT x Fire Emblem and Zelda U, yeah, I'm completely sure they'll arrive in 2015.

wonderfulmonkeyman3804d ago

I don't know what you mean by "take a while to localize" in regards to X.
It's not likely to be the same situation as Xenoblade; Nintendo has been actively including this in state-side Nintendo Directs before this point, unlike Xenoblade. It's more likely that they'll be making a state-side version of X a priority this time around.

Concertoine3804d ago

@wonderful
still, this is a dense jrpg we're talking about. tons to translate and tons of voice acting. could come out the same year in america, we'll see.

deafdani3804d ago

I think X has a possibility of being released next year, seeing how Nintendo confirmed it for 2014.

SMT x FE, very unlikely.

Zelda U, I agree with you. Definitely not happening next year.

Venoxn4g3805d ago

I really want Wii U to succeed, its a very good console, cool gamepad and games (indies and not), I really hope that it will pick up this holliday season with Mario 3D world or if not with smash bros and mario kart, all of these are killer apps, same I wish to next gen consoles and handhelds

RPG_Lover3805d ago

3ds had a killer year 2 and wii u will be the same

thomasmiller3805d ago

Yes, the wii u is going to pick up with super mario 3d, and here is another video, the cat suit can turn into a gold statue, and you can take a clone away from another player!! this game just does not stop, with the amount of stuff you can do! Game of the year in my eyes!! cannot wait to get it!!, watch the video for your self!! http://www.youtube.com/watc...

SquidBuck3805d ago

With the launch of the PS4 and Xbox One happening, I don't see the Wii U being successful this year.

RPG_Lover3805d ago

Wii u is successful where it counts, A quality experience

Looking Ahead: The Lingering Questions About the Next Mario Kart

VGChartz's Mark Nielsen: "10 years. It’s been almost 10 years since the last mainline release in the Mario Kart series. Mario Kart 8 came out for the Wii U in 2014 and became the best-selling game for the system by a sizeable margin, and later pulled the same magic trick on the Nintendo Switch under the stage name Deluxe. All in all, it's sold nearly 70 million copies over the last decade and is still selling like hot cakes to this day, so it’s no wonder Nintendo has been in no rush to replace it. However, with rumors of a new system being just around the corner, and reports a few years back that a new Mario Kart is indeed under way, it seems the era of 8 might very well be drawing to a close. It’s an exciting prospect to be sure, but after two Nintendo systems with Mario Kart 8 at their heart, a lot of questions remain about how Nintendo will choose to follow it up."

I hope they just keep building on Mario Kart 8; Add a track-creation tool, and probably open it up to more Nintendo IPs with new tracks and characters, so Metroid, Punch Out, Starfox, Animal Crossing, etc etc.

there wont be a new one until the switch 2 comes out.

nintendo needs their bangers early on

PlayStation Removing Twitter/X Integration for PS4 and PS5 on November 13

PlayStation has announced that they will be removing Twitter/X integration from PS4 and PS5 systems on November 13.

shinoff2183163d ago (Edited 163d ago )

I never used it or had no intentions to. I am curious to why though.

Nitrowolf2163d ago (Edited 163d ago )

the API prices, Musk is insane
Even if PlayStation could afford it, it's a waste

GamerRN162d ago

It was never that useful when it was free for Sony

excaliburps163d ago

Elon that's why. He put a large amount to use Twitter API. Dude is killing the platform and once BlueSky launches, it's game over. I mean, assuming BlueSky works and all.

gerbintosh163d ago

Just like when Threads launched, it was game over but look at it now. If a company wants to replace twitter they need to innovate not copy

Spenok163d ago

Lol, yeah, THAT'S going to happen.

Musk has been doing nothing but make the platform a better place to communicate, making truth easier to find or point out.

People keep saying it's dying, or he's going to kill it, but it's somehow still the most used platform of its kind than any other.

shadowknight203163d ago (Edited 163d ago )

Twitter is 1 of the few social platforms that allows us as people to speak freely, and I mean everyone, so him ruining the platform as u say, is a big joke of a statement.

Sometimes it only takes 1 person, but it takes a large group of people and a need, a purpose, to make a change happen. There was obviously a need for change. Spew your propaganda filth all you want, but if API prices ruins a platform, a 'use' that PS never really used or needed, then you otta reprioritize what matters to you when you speak nonsense. But that's actually what that is "non" "sense".

Moegooner163d ago (Edited 163d ago )

Lol @ the last two comments. It lost around half of its value. Try again.

Jin_Sakai163d ago (Edited 163d ago )

“Musk has been doing nothing but make the platform a better place to communicate, making truth easier to find or point out.”

“People keep saying it's dying, or he's going to kill it, but it's somehow still the most used platform of its kind than any other.“

Exactly. The Elon hate is funny. Twitter was headed for bankruptcy before Elon acquired them and now with 80% of the workforce gone X continues to operate just fine and has gotten more features than before in a record amount of time.

X is seeing 1.5 million new sign-ups every day.
Back in March, X reported that it now has 253 million daily active users, an increase of 15 million on the 238 million mDAU that Twitter reported in July 2022.

SyntheticForm163d ago

Thank god for community notes.

RioKing162d ago (Edited 162d ago )

Expecting the guy who ran Twitter to not turn BlueSky into the same left-wing echo chamber it was is hilarious. Have fun with that. 👍🏼

fr0sty162d ago

@spenok, that isn't even close to true. Twitter has lost almost all of its sponsors, and usage rates are plummeting faster than any other social network out there. At least try to look up the facts before you speak.

fr0sty162d ago (Edited 162d ago )

@ Jin

X currently has 225 million daily active users – a decline in tens of millions or 11.6 percent of users from just before Musk acquired the company. Ad revenue is down 50%.

fr0sty162d ago

Elon lets the nazis roam free, and in turn the sponsors roam free as well, away from X. I give it another year, he'll try to sell it once his dream of turning it into an unregulated bank come crashing down around his feet.

thorstein163d ago

MS had already dropped it, so this really isn't a surprise.

I used it just to post screenshots. But that was years ago when the feature and twitter were new.

Gamingsince1981163d ago

Twitter was always trash, the faster he kills it the better.

Army_of_Darkness163d ago

X and rumble. The only platforms with genuinely true free speech for us all! Everyone should support them by signing up. It's free after all 👆👍 heck, I never had Twitter until Elon took over😁

FunAndGun163d ago

There is no such thing as "free speech" when you sign a Terms of Service Agreement. X and Rumble still delete, ban, and censors users.

shinoff2183162d ago (Edited 162d ago )

Man I get the free speech and all but the biggest ones clamoring about that are the ones I'm not interested in hearing their bs from anyway. Free speech shouldn't mean being able to flat out lie with no evidence what so ever. Just saying

Will say twiiter is one of the few places besides reddit I could advertise one of my ventures

kneon163d ago

Price for the Musk ̶a̶d̶v̶e̶n̶t̶u̶r̶e̶ debacle

ZeekQuattro163d ago

Musk is doing his damndest to kill X the artist formily known as Twitter. Oh well. 🤣

cammers1995162d ago

It'll be gone within a few years thanks to him.

Army_of_Darkness163d ago

Why would you say that? The dude is undoubtedly a great human being. Donating to charities, helping the environment, allowing free speech on X even though his actions are causing other huge companies and elitist to become his opposition as a consequence, his quote to them was“Offer me money.. Offer me power.. I don't care.” 🙌 the man!

shadowknight203162d ago

People have more hate for him than Jeffrey Epstein. It's not the people's fault, it's just people are too easily brainwashed by propaganda. Happened with the Germans and Hitler, and it's happening again but on a world scale.

Babadook7162d ago (Edited 162d ago )

Musk is a breath of fresh air compared to other tech big wigs. He’s not even woke.

Zuck on the other hand. 💩
