The reviews for the console have the most votes for five stars but there are also a lot of one star reviews. Really, now its Amazon's fault? Amazon/UPS/FedEx all deliver millions of packages daily, of course sometimes a lazy, rushed, tired employee is responsible for breaking a consumers purchase but they track reports of damaged packages by a carrier/employee= too many and they won't have a job for long. Amazon simply could not be as popular as they are without having a great reputation for product shipment. *IF ps4 does indeed have a high # of broken consoles its not Amazons fault.

Really people are grasping at straws I just read that it was Foxconn worker fault, despite the fact there is no evidence to suggest why a Foxconn worker would suddenly target ps4 to sabotage when bad working conditions has always been part of the job there for many, many years and all the other types of electronic gadgets are made there.

Got mine from Amazon and it works fine. But to be honest that is a fear of shipping. People don't handle your stuff like they would theirs and even then some people handle their stuff like trash too.

My first guess would be it's a problem with shipping from Sony's factories to US customs, from US customs to Amazon, from Amazon to UPS, and from UPS to their home.

Who stands to gain from a shit load of broken ps4s? That's right the courier/ delivery services. I know UPS here in the uk made a crap load of extra revenue from all the faulty xbox360s that they had to pick up, take to repair centers then deliver them back to their owners fixed. Coming to think of it, it might just be worth keeping an eye on the stocks of these companies to see if there's a spike in their value.

Yes but Amazon puts an outer box around the ps4 box filled with plastic air bags to protect the ps4 box.

Both of the ps4's I ordered from Amazon arrived perfectly, without so much as a dent in the their boxes.

I got a DOA unit. It was most likely poor packing that killed mine. Mine came in a big box with random thrown air bags. Now I have to wait 1-4 weeks for a new PS4. I just I hope get a new by X-mas.

I got one from Amazon and the air wrap was on top of the console, other than that system was great. Also if hooking up to and no picture hold down the power until 2 beeps and PS4 will output into 480p, then you can mess with it from there, my monitor wouldn't support it right off

Wrong, it was the factory fault, it is the Hongfujin factory, if you received one from that factory and if it was made on August/September, it is most likely messed up, and a majority of that shipment was sent to Amazon, mine included -.-

All of these reviews I'm seeing are Verified Purchasers. So anyone who wants to point the finger at fanboys don't bother. I can say mine came from Amazon & aside from a few hiccups w/ the HDMI handshake at first for a few minutes and troubles logging into my PSN account mine works completely fine.

Personally I think it's nothing more than run of the mill Failure Rate. The sole reason we're seeing so much of it is because Amazon not only handled so many orders but because it's an online business and easy for those having a fit come cry about their issue. They sold out of Launch Day PS4's w/in 24 hours and later added several bundles. I'd hate to speculate but I bet Amazon had 250k+ of the supposedly 1 million+ units available launch day. In the grand scheme of things I think it's a small amount having problems. As others have pointed out, carriers aren't too kind with packages and don't care what's inside. They toss them on the belt, to each other, onto the trucks, etc. Electronics are delicate, they're not meant to be thrown around, dropped, etc. And who knows how many of these can be chalked up as user error. Going to update the system or doing something and instead of waiting they pulled the plug and bricked it themselves. Everyone want to plug and play and has no patience, especially launch day.

Anyway I would read too much into this. Probably nothing more than typical fail rates blown out of proportion because the internet. For every 1 complaint you're not going to hear 100 great reviews from people like myself who have a perfectly fine unit atm.

IGN and Kotaku already had adressed PS4 issues before the launch. To me is clear that you are not an Amazon´s customer.

Verified customers are reporting various issues with their PS4 through reviews.

They are praising Amazon support´s efficiency, and quick response/feedback, while bashing Sony´s. Sony´s customer support sucks acording to costumers they spend. 2-3 hours hanging on the phone to hear from Sony´s representative: "Yep, your PS4 is broken. No replacement. Only Fix." So they are taking the matter to the Amazon, which is returning their money or replacing the broken system.

So, stop with this nonsense talk about angry employees treating PS4´s packages bad on purpose. That´s crazy talk. Amazon has been great to gamers. Adressing to their problems up front. While Sony on other hand, no so much. And í´m not expecting a better treatment to consumers by MS´s part next week.

When mine arrived yesterday from Amazon, only the top of the box was protected with those clear, plastic air bag things. The bottom of the ps4 was laying directly against the bottom of the box it was shipped in. My ps4 is working fine though. The packaging was shoddy though. Usually, Amazon does a great job.

It's not the packing job people. Banging around the console wouldn't cause these problems. Years ago the risk would be to the hard drive, but Hard drives these days when powered down lock the armature off disk, so that rules that out.

The constant blaming of everyone except Sony really shows how irrational some of you are. These problems were not caused by Amazon, or Microsoft, or Xbots, or HAARP...

You guys are still in the denial phase of the 5 Stages of Grief. It's time to accept the fact that Sony rushed production which is why Foxconn was using quasi-slave labor. I had top and bottom air bags. Different warehouses I guess. Ohh and no issues. Toke it to my brothers house (his wife is at drills all weekend) and we played killzone online for at least 5 hours without a hiccup. We tried BF4 but we could only join empty servers then we lost connection with "EA servers". Strange killzone played fine.

I read story after story about PS4s from Amazon with shoddy packaging that didn't work and I got super worried about mine. Turns out, despite having the same packaging from Amazon, mine works great. So hopefully that gives someone solace.

I would agree with you if people would concede that fact, but honestly, it seems that some people are reveling in the thought that Sony might have a problem. They ignore the people saying that they have good consoles, and immediately point to the PS4 having a high fail rate. Even on amazon, the "fail rate" is about 33%, with 66% having good consoles. It's likely much lower when you consider that the vast majority of people that have good consoles aren't going to say a damn thing.

Quite honestly, I haven't gotten the vibe that the people making a big deal about this really care one lick about the people with problems. They are way to into pointing out the number of failed units and blaming Sony. I could probably take them seriously if they hadn't spent the last 6-7 months accepting everything MS has done as sunshine and rainbows.

My PS4 as well as my friends were packaged like shit. When I got mine I saw it right away. The tape was not put on all the way. The one side wasnt even stuck to the side. When I opened it I saw the PS4 box right away and had nothing keeping it from bouncing around. Underneath it was the plastic balloon thing, but not on top. Same with my friends.
I contacted support right away and made them stay with me till I got it up and running. I told them I just spent 500 bucks with them I expect that It be packed right. I let them know I wont be buying any thing this expensive again from them. The two PS4s are working for now thank God.

Is your display 1080p? The unit defaults to that so if you have 1080i or 720p it won't display. Hold down power button for 2-4 seconds and the system boots in 480p then you can go adjust the outputs. Not saying you don't know this stuff but some are unaware so thought I'd point it out.

I picked mine up from gamestop and it's ran fine for the most part other then 2 crashes after i just got trow sending a message. It restarted and ask me to explain and send the message on to sony then booted back up. Heck i've been babying it since i got it.

Mine's been working great since day one. The one I got on Amazon and sold to a friend is working great too.

Only issue I've had is it sometimes randomly goes to the home screen, which is apparently because of the PSN issues. And today when I first started Knack it had a hard freeze and I had to pull the plug to get it to reset since the power button didn't work.

Other than that, the system is amazing, and hopefully those two issues I had get worked out.

I do hope Sony can quickly fix the problems for those that received faulty consoles. I feel for them.

I received my PS4 from Amazon. Haven't opened the PS4 box itself (I'm hoping to resell for a profit on eBay), but I must say that the article describes how my package was packaged perfectly - retail box on the BOTTOM of shipping box with the air bubble packaging ON TOP of the PS4.

Whether my PS4 works or not, I have no idea. BUT, Amazon definitely did do a poor job packaging these, at least for mine.

BUT the NO video signal is a Manufacturing DEFECT made public by Kotaku (of all people) the HDMI plus is defective.

For the record, sir, a lot of people don't k ow the system defaults to 1080p. If you plug it in to a 1080i display it won't work. You have to go into safe mode and change it from there to 720p. I'm not saying this is all the issues or even most of them but some people are clueless about such things and just plug stuff in without thinking.

Anyway, yes most corporate conglomerates are in it for the money. I'm not saying sony is innocent but in my personal experience I have a MUCH higher hardware failure rate with Microsoft products than I do sony.

I have never had a problem with a Sony Walkman, CD player or TV. MY PS1 and PS2 lasted until I got rid of them.

I'll let you guys know that I was heavily anticipating this console with open arms and so much joy. Unfortunately, I received a defective unit from Amazon and my heart just dropped when I found out I was one of the unlucky.

I just want you guys to know that this is a serious issue among some buyers that received their ps4's through Amazon. This is no case of an attempt at trolling or much less trying to paint a bad image on the console itself, because I know that the amount of working systems far outweigh the amount of not working.

I just honestly hope Sony takes care of those who were unfortunate and continues forth with this great console and forgets about all this, but I'm just really bummed right now..Honestly.

A coffin will be coming in on Monday to send in my baby and get a new one in one week if the PlayStation Reps word holds true, but I just want you guys to be considerate and realize that no electronics launch is perfect. Bestbuy, Futureshop, Sony store, Amazon canada, videogameplus, walmart, TRU and all system are working. In the state, two my friends had out of 43, including ppl in canada, got a small issue, and safe-mode, soft reset fixed the problem.

The problem I know is that metal sticking out of the hdmi outlet, but none my friends and including myself didn't have that problem. so to THE trolls, troll on.

Received my console from Amazon via ups on Friday. Sold it immediately (been trying to sale it for weeks) because I ordered the Watch Dogs bundle and you guys know the rest. That is the only game I wanted to play at launch anyway. I opened the Amazon package because I figure I will take out the shipping label and place the new one in for the person I am shipping it to. Wasn't packaged too well. At least the air pillows were wrapped around the console and not just on one side as some people were complaining about on Amazon's PS4 review but still looked horrible. There was just too much space between the wrap and the packaging. You can easily shake the box and feel and hear the console move around. (Not that I did that) PS4 box looked great though.

My Amazon system is working great - just put it through a pretty decent 8+ hour session of BF4 and AC4.

I will say the packaging from Amazon was not great, and there is no doubt the system definitely ended up absorbing more bumps than I would have liked, but so far so good.

Ordered one of mine from there & it has no issues what so ever **knocks on wood** but if it does, well theres nothing i can do but call sony & have it shipped back for repairs.. It would really suck not being able to play your new system after its home, plugged in, & ready to go.. I personally would try using remote play w my vita if i had any video issues w mine while i await the shipping box to arrive

I called my local gamestop - the guy wouldn't tell me how many they had returned. But he said they were aware of the problem and would only say that he had at least 1 brought back today. Which still is pretty good, because i'm sure my local gamestop sold a bunch. But it isn't just Amazon with bad batches.

Got mine from Amazon and it was DOA. Pulsing blue light and won't boot into safe mode. Pretty pissed because I took off work for two days thinking I would be enjoying my PS4. Now I have 6 games I can't play and a controller I can't use. Sony let me down.

Yeah ok lets blame this on xbox fans. hahahaah do you even think before you write? You can tell if someone makes up a review on Amazon because it shows you if the system was a verified purchase. So blaming all the 1 star reviews on Xbox fanboys is stupid. That's not to say people are putting bad reviews on there but still its a problem and not something made up.

For what it is worth, I got a PS4 with Lego Marvel shipped in the same box from Amazon. I wasn't planning on opening the shipment until my birthday in a couple of weeks, but I decided to open it this morning just to make sure everything was ok after reading articles like this. There was bubble packaging on top but none underneath or on the sides of PS4. I video recorded my unboxing and setup incase there were any issues, but everything was fine with my shipment. It all set up perfect and connected to the PSN fine. The update downloaded and installed in maybe two minutes or so? I was also able to download Resogun, Contrast, and Warframe. The three combined downloaded and installed in less than a half an hour. I also set up my remote play on my vita, and everything connected.

So my shipment from Amazon worked fine. Now, I put it away until my Birthday (or at least thanksgiving.) Somehow, I had the willpower to not actually play any of the games I downloaded. Definitely looking forward to actually using it soon!

No problem with mine, received on Friday and has been on most of the time since. Everything is working fine. The top of the console gets warm but not hot like all those rumors that were floating around. I am extremely happy with my purchase so far and have played alot of Warframe and that F2P play game is fun.

Got mine at Walmart, and will be picking up my X1 from them this Friday too. So far, no issues at all with my PS4 and this is after about 10-15 hours on it (on and off) between me and my wife.
