Its not like however Foxconn treats them it just started with ps4 manufacturing. Sure it could very well be a Foxconn defective issue but not because of sabotage which makes little sense under the circustances because all electronics products have a Quality Control(QC) process, so this would indicate that didn't happen on a massive scale. @4show: (IF this is true) a rapid spike in demand for the ps4 in such a short peroid of time (record breaking demand, at that) would be the reason. they would have been pushed harder than they ever have and more than likely would rebel all of a sudden, in this case. that would be the distinction with "why just with the ps4?" imo. what you also said could be possible, right now it is all just a conspiracy. they dont test all of the consoles that go out, and we dont know how many were manufactured by foxconn, sony gets manufacturing from a bunch of different locations. that would be crazy if true tho. hopefully sony has a response.

I made a comment yesterday on this very subject. By the time the PS4 is released in Japan, most if not all the bugs will be ironed out. That is a big case for those who decide to wait until next year.

Also people think that a couple of interns broke loads of ps4's lol. They know who puts together which batch's of machines together. They also test machine from each worker over a period of time. Interns would NOT magically be able to continually break machines they build.

Have any of you even seen a production line someone would not be able to break dozens of machines without the next worker seeing the problem.

Talk like a real unknowledgeable person. You think ANY company in the world get their stuff from factories and then open them and test every single unit? QC should have been done BEFORE the thing gets inside the box and the next time the box is opened is by the customers themselves!

Test for every single unit is only practical if you only make 1000 units available a month. The PS4 has sold 1000000 units in 24H! Good luck doing unit-by-unit test for THAT! That is why we have this thing called manufacturer's warranty!

Probably not. Foxconn is a MASSIVE manufacturing company with employess across hundreds of divisions. They have a pretty solid history of poor working conditions, so it's not beyond the realm of possibilty that this sort of thing happens.

Just throw out any random company that uses manufactured goods and they most likely use Foxconn. I see thousands of boxes from them at my job and I work in a voice and networking department. I doubt it has anything to do with Sony as a specific target of retaliation.

How would any other company be any better? Companies like Foxconn are used because they are in countries with very cheap labour.. Make a PS4 in any western country and the thing will cost 4x as much as it does manufactured in China, Foxconn employees already get paid 3x as much as any other hardware manufacture in china since the disgust with Foxconn has be going on for years.. changing manufacture wont make a single difference.

The intern's vendetta(if this turns out true) more than likely is against Foxconn possibly due over-working or poor work treatment. Almost every year we hear a complaint about Foxconn. Either its workers committing suicide, over-working employees or poor work environment. With both Sony and Microsoft releasing their consoles in multiple countries, no telling how much(and long) the foxconn employees are working just to assemble them.

Some warranties only cover 1 replacement so say you replace it in the first year or so then you just wasted like 80 bucks on a $400 device.

This is actually GOOD news. The hardware isn't faulty. It is the assembly. Unlike the 360 we won't be dealing with this issue until the first hardware revision. The 360 had bad hardware that even the most skilled worker could assemble to last.

The mistake is to believe this "story" is true in the first place. It is sounding more concocted as it grows. At first, it was a question whether students and interns might not have assembled PS4's to some posting that has since disappeared, claiming it was deliberate sabotage. This has happened in less than one day.

The problem is the story falls apart if there isn't a gigantic outcry of failed units, which there haven't been. To assume it is true then go off on even more speculation only makes you look like the fool.

its like a car, their parts are not from them alone.. different factory make it now once something gone wrong..the main recall cars and fix..but the factory who made the defective part gets hit and either got charged or apply necessary adjustments and strict quality checks that shall cost money, like hire people outside to assure quality...

I ordered from amazon and mine works fine. I am sad to see so many having problems. I was actually worried about this when the Foxconn reports came out before launch. Unhappy workers tend to do bad things. I'm sure this will hurt Sony in the short term, but I'm sure Sony will get it worked out and everyone will have their working PS4 in a few weeks. Hopefully it's isolated to one or a few batches. MS fans, please remember which console had a 30% fAilure rate before you keep bashing Sony on this. I'm sure they did not intend to make faulty consoles. Electronics have a tendency to have problems.

Yes, but you run the potential for problems with every piece of technology you buy. Sony sold 1 million consoles at launch. Yet the main news sites have no real articles on a mass epidemic of failed consoles. That is because the vast majority, 99+ percent are working just fine. I feel bad for those who got bricked consoles. When XB1 launches the same thing will happen, a bunch of bricked consoles will blow up social media, but the reality is that the 99+% of those who received the good console will probably not be nearly as likely to blow up social media with "My console worked just fine!", because it is expected too. Got mine from Amazon, and the back of it says it was made at Foxconn. Needless to say, it barely works at all. It shuts off after about 20-30 minutes of gameplay, i try to turn it on, I get the blue pulsating light, wait, and constantly have to turn it on and off. Story of my life right now. So depressing... I have to send it back to Sony, and they'll probably only TRY to fix it, instead of replacing it with a completely different unit all together. I took days off for this launch... I'm just so upset about it now...

I don't understand what's up with the down votes. It's not like I haven't been advocating for PS4 all along. I wish I was lying about the issue I'm facing, but the fact is, I pre ordered my console 3 minutes after Sony's Press Conference at E3, and I now have a defective unit sitting in my entertainment center, and I have to wait for Sony to send me some box to "service" my unit. My first PS3 broke right after the warranty was up, I sent it to Sony and got a replacement that broke right after the 90 day warranty. I was so mad that I almost did not buy a new one. Gamestop was running a 50% trade in deal and told me they would give me the deal even for a busted console. I guess they get them fixed. I ended up getting the first slim model and I haven't had problems since. Sometimes luck is just not in our favor, but at least you are getting it replaced for free.

IF the story is true and a few students sabotaged (which would be the case due to the relatively small number of defective units)PS4s to get back at Foxconn - do you really think those acts are going to do anything to a company like Foxconn - has it achieved anything at this stage? Created any fundamental workers rights or brought it to the attention of the UN? No it hasn't.

There are a variety of ways through social media or international lobby groups for workers rights where these students could have brought these issues to light without resorting to sabotage; again if that is what has happened.

In the end Torgul, Foxconn survives, Sony survives and workers there are still treated like slaves....and guess what, the consumer gets punished. If you hurt the consumer, you are not going to get many people to support your cause.

It may be just one or two people working on the assembly lines. If you look at how many staff work for Foxconn (whether by choice or not) then that will result in a small number of broken PS4s. If everyone was sabotaging them then we'd have a much higher failure rate.

Even if this internet comment, with no evidence whatsoever, somehow turns out to be true...how many machines do you think this one guy could have got away with damaging? Safe to assume they produced well over a million machines. How many could he have possibly even touched? Of the ones he touched, how many could he have felt confident enough that no one
was watching him that he would brazenly damage them? Odds are even if this guy worked his ass off trying to ruin machines, he likely only damaged a few hundred, max. People act like the guy could have damaged every single unit. At most, if this is even true, he probably could have only affected the defect rate a fraction of a percent.

In fact, the defect rate is likely always affected by some form of this, either intentionally or by some form of willfull neglect. So A: this isn't news, and B: reporting on this will only encourage people like this guy to do stuff like this. (Foxconn makes a vast majority of the stuff you like.)

If this is true, Sony needs to distance themselves from Foxconn as fast as possible. Its a shame that Sony seems to be baring the brunt of the employees anger, as they really have nothing to do with the issue. It sets up a huge lawsuit, if Sony wants to pursue it. Of course, they need proof.

I always buy a warranty with my new consoles for fear of failure! I got my 2 year through Gamestop! Also I do the warrantys cause you cannot predict what your playing will do to it over a few months/years time. So 2 years of coverage is good looking out!
