Why Blizzard won't add controller support to PC Diablo 3

There's been a great response from players of the console version of Diablo 3 - yours truly included - to the more immediate feel of its pad control scheme. This has naturally led the game's PC fanbase to ask if controller support could be patched into their version of the game.

Eh, I'm playing Guildwars 2 with controller trough Pinnacle game profiler. So It's not impossible to do so.

Complete waste of Blizzard's time.

If a PC Gamer wants controller support there are a lot of choices to make this happen so no need for a Dev to waste time doing this.

It's not a waste of time. They wouldn't be losing money over mapping some input to some output.

Games like diablo just seem more fitted for a gamepad. And the fact there is no support for it is a shame.

But LUCKILY there are solutions to it. But You rather have it out of the box because third party tools might be limited.

Tzuno3817d ago

Because they want you to buy the console version so they can make more money.

Xpadder is a great app that works perfectly for Diable on PC. I beat the game with mouse and KB and then again with the controller. I even paid for the Xpadder download being the rebel I am.

Look into Pinnacle game profiler. I tried xpadder. But xpadder is very limited. Game profiler allows for very complex mappings(detecting button hold, key stepping/sequencing, shift mapping and some more). And great thing is people already made profiles for a lot of games, so you don't have to do the mapping yourself.

I love the xbox controller for many games, but Diablo? I could never imagine playing that with anything else than a mouse^^ But having options is always a good thing so go ahead Blizz!

It works well enough on console but I still missed pinpoint accuracy especially for ranged abilities. Not being able to cast on particular mobs to be most effective wasn't game breaking though but playing a Wizard got dumbed down somewhat (more so than other classes I think).

I still had fun though so was worth it to me. I think monk/barb got best benefit out of controllers by far.

What D3 really did for me was remind me how long since we got a good beat'em up/top down action RPG on consoles. I missed all of the BG/Xmen//EQ/etc as M:UA games were practically all we got that were definitely worth the purchase. I plan on picking up Marvel Legos on PS4 as seems best I can get (Lego games to be fair are cool but decidedly more family friendly and less "serious").

I actually hate the way mouse control is implemented in the game, I'd swap for properly designed and integrated pad controls in a heartbeat and maybe even play the game a little.

Aaroncls73817d ago

One more reason to hate Blizzard's guts.
They always have an excuse for whatever they aren't doing right.
I applaud they retained the Diablo traditional point & click control scheme; but where is the option for the people that absolutely hate it? There isn't (or wasn't last time I played) even the option for WASD movement.
With that said, D3 was garbage anyway; despite all the sales numbers (which are inflated due to the one year WoW subscription that included it).

Cyberpunk and No Man's Sky have to be up there. We're lucky and cursed, equally, to have games that can be updated now. For folks old enough to remember the Sega/SNES into PS1 and even 2 eras, if a game came out that was half baked (*cough*Angel of Darkness*cough*) that was it, no redemption. At the same time, having the option for updates shouldn't be an excuse for half assing games.

thorstein84d ago

I remember when the Nintendo Seal of Approval meant something.

All those games had to release without bugs.

Comebacks shouldnt be a thing in videogames. Just saying.

Diablo III - Still a Huge Draw in the Face of Diablo IV

Diablo III still works on modern PlayStation and Xbox consoles, and remains hugely playable a decade after initial release.

Palitera393d ago

Are you comparing a continuously improved 10+ years old masterpiece with the... beta of an unreleased game?

kevco33393d ago

Heh, yeah. There's no comparison in here! Its a commentary on how III is still very playable over a decade later.
