i honestly didn't even think they did boxed PC sales anymore... don't think i've seen a boxed PC game in at least 3 years here in ireland

LightofDarkness3811d ago

They have plenty in Gamestop, usually, and they're usually dirt cheap too. You'll often see new releases for €30-€45.

Spinal3811d ago

Dude PC games are always cheaper than console games.

Here in Uk a console game brand new is £40 and the PC version would be £25-£30.

LightofDarkness3811d ago

Not necessarily. New releases on Steam can often fetch €50-€60, equivalent to the console pricing (somewhat outrageous, considering that there's no distribution chain, physical media/packaging costs or retailer cuts to consider). Buying the disc from a bricks and mortar outlet can save you €10-€20 on launch days, and the games usually are tied to your Steam account anyway.

Raf1k13811d ago (Edited 3811d ago )

@Spinal, unless it's an Activision game. They have a habit of charging the same as console games even though they're not having to pay £10 to the platform holder like they do on consoles.

Not completely fair on Activision with that statement as I've seen a few other games retail for the same price as a console game by other publishers.

edit: @LightofDarkness, Yeh it's not good as they should be cheaper than boxed copies but unfortunately retailers like Game get their knickers in a twist and complain about it cheaper digital copies taking their business.
Bit of a worrying trend TBH.

dc13811d ago (Edited 3811d ago )

No surprise here.
I'm not a fan of digital only, however, I haven't bought a physical disc for a pc game in years. And my most recent purchase of COD ghost was from PSN.

Ninjamonkey823811d ago

Up here in Northern Ireland they still selling boxed but they reserve the smallest sections off Games store for the PC in all off the retailers up here. People have big HDs and there's less and less need for the boxed sales. Though i do like my collections.

this is just for flaming and hits.
anyone that plays on PC download all the games from steam. noone buys a disk anymore. only time you use a disk is if you have your OS on a disk (usb is better) or a Motherboard driver.

TIER1xWOLFPACKx3811d ago

I always buy disc games for PC I just really pisses me off when you get HDD failure and have to 're download everything. Also I can lend games to mates easier don't need to give them an account to download a game from it etc

MadLad3811d ago

I honestly never buy disc-based PC games. The only one in the last year was Cryostasis and that was because it was pulled from digital distribution and I had to find a copy online.

Don't most major releases tie themselves to one online store, whether it be Steam, Origin or Uplay, to name a few, anyway?
I would think that would be a one time activation thing.

Raf1k13811d ago

I prefer disc too as it tends to be quite a bit cheaper and I can install a lot quicker than I can download. Plus if it has steamworks then it's even better.

3811d ago
Moncole3811d ago

I only got one Steam game on disk because in case my account ever gets hacked I can show the Steam Key as proof that its my account.

Are_The_MaDNess3811d ago

hmmm most games today are steamworks, origin or uplay games.
all your games are there.
if you have fast enough internet it can be faster than finding your disk and putting it in and waiting for it to install. less CPU intensive aswell.

and when do you ever get a HDD failure? do you have a laptop that you move while being used?
been having my SSD's for over a year now and no problems what so ever.
only disks dieing are the once that i run Torrent applications and other sharing programs and media servers from.

as for steam hacking. you can always just set up Steam Guard that will mail you when you connect to a new PC.
its hackproof, unless you have gotten your mail hacked aswell. if thats the case you really should get a better antivirus and reinstall your OS.

Moncole3811d ago (Edited 3811d ago )

I mean that I bought a Steam works game at retail in case my account ever gets hacked so I have the Steam key that comes with the game so I can use that key as proof thats its my account since every key is tied to you account. I never take chances

kevnb3811d ago (Edited 3811d ago )

What's the point of getting the disk when it's tied to your steam account anyway? Also noticed football manager outsold it...

NarooN3811d ago

Some people buy discs to save bandwidth...but that's about it, lol. Most games still end up needing Steam for DRM.

Raf1k13811d ago

I get the disk as like NarooN said it saves bandwidth but it is also much quicker to install off disc than to download 10GB+ of data.

Also, I can usually find discs at a lower price compared to digital copies which is a big plus for me.

MadLad3811d ago (Edited 3811d ago )

Digital sales.
That or PC gamers just know better not to buy trash. :p

Look, to be honest the FTC should just stop.

MS has A/B and nothing has really changed yet...if you are worried about 5-10 years from now...just drop it cause the future is unpredictable.

Take this week's news, that 4 Xbox exclusive are going Multiplatform.

Yeah man I think Microsoft here getting to probe is kinda wrong unless you only have accessed to necessary information not complete access imo.

Abriael71d ago

Obviously they aren't giving them the password to Sony's computers and telling them "help yourself."

Eonjay70d ago

"Microsoft allowed to probe Sony and Ubisoft"

Sounds hot...

ApocalypseShadow71d ago (Edited 71d ago )

Maybe Microsoft should also talk and get help from their "congressional influencers" at The Capital. They had plenty to say on the matter before the acquisition. They are mighty quiet after the purchase went through. Almost as if they had a stake in the matter.

Abriael71d ago

Could you perhaps explain how this is related? I'm honestly curious since you seem to bring it up rather often.

S2Killinit71d ago

He is pointing out how corrupt MS is, and how money talks. I think.

KwietStorm_BLM70d ago

I would say read between the lines but it's pretty damn clear as it is.

Bathyj71d ago

You should be careful upsetting Sony too much Microsoft.
You might need them to sell your subpar games soon.

TornRaptor71d ago

The games will become the best things ever all of a sudden.

Bathyj71d ago

Yeah I really doubt that.
I'm struggling to think of one I really cared about missing.

Hofstaderman71d ago

Bwhahahaha. Ain't that the truth.

Mr_cheese71d ago

The only exclusive im personally interested in from Microsoft is Elderscrolls and that's not even got s release date.

Everything else is genuinely of none interest.

OtterX71d ago

Microsoft never waits for the probing to be consensual.

derek71d ago

This isn't a major victory. They're essentially being allowed to call witnesses in regards to agreements they reached with Sony and Ubisoft which was initially blocked because Microsoft didn't make the request through the proper channels. This case is dead, there is no way the ftc will be allowed to unwind this acquisition.

Sephiroushin71d ago

they probably know case is death but want some proof to sue them for a few millions regarding other stuff, the ftc loves to sue everyone, be sure that as soon as all this end they will just go sue MS and end in a settlement.
