Albert Penello Responds to Xbox DRM Rumors

Albert Penello has reached out to a follower on Twitter inquiring about whether or not DRM prevents people from playing games offline.

The question posed to him:
"Rumours of DRM still being on x1 are surfacing due to the guy that got x1 early supposedly he cant play ghost SP True?"

His reply:
"No"

Although Albert did not explain why Activision's Call of Duty: Ghosts cannot be played offline, he stated that he would look into it.

You people aren't buying his reply because let's face it, his answer doesn't suit your agenda. You want it to be true. Give a short response that is clear as day "too vague, needs more explaining"

MS was already going to be flamed on the consumer market with what they had planned and they're still feeling the effects in lower pre-order numbers. If people actually buy the consoles and either MS or Sony say that's it no more console, they would have to be bailing out of the console industry as well. Cause no one would touch another system from them. Ever.

Something seems really weird about this whole thing. First the guy said he could only play offline after he updated. Then he said his console was banned, then he said he couldn't play games.

It looks like Microsoft intentionally bricked his system. If he was playing online before, then he can't after a console ban. That is a hardcore ban right there.

Unless its a check in thing... online play is active as long as you log every now and then to live.... he hasn't been on live for a bit and now can't play.

Remember back in June when Microsoft said that you had to be authenticated within 24 hours or you system would brick... well damn if the system didn't brick approximately one day after the news broke.

That being said, there is no way he could have gotten a legitimate update. Lets wait for an update.

Yeah it doesn't sound like whatever he downloaded was the actual day one update that promises to get rid of the drm... unless this is an infinity ward clock in requirement but its all speculation at this point.

This is enough of a blow to effect xbox one sales though... this will turn a few early adopters off for sure.

Here is a better one, its all software rather than in box they can flick the switch whenever they want.

Once they have a big enough install base they could easily patch it in on an update. Nothing is to stop them.

The next course of action, is to wait for Activision to respond and see what they have to say about it.

If Activision claims to not have any kind of DRM restrictions or online authentication in COD Ghosts....then Microsoft are straight up liars.

Activision has been taking some heat from Microsoft lately. They nearly placed the 720 scandal squarely on IW shoulders... to which Mark Ruben replied by naming several other developers to counterattack claims of IW's incompetence. Therefore if its not IW, they are going to be very vocal in their decent. Its pretty simple, someone will ask IW if they are enforcing DRM. They need to answer this question.

Albert posted on GAF that Microsoft didnt ban SP on his system...even though the man's console is apparently a complete brick... so someone is lying or IW is gonna have hell to pay.

Moonlightswami were able to download the patch required but apparently thereafter M$ blocked that server for patch updates, Now Moonlightswami sits with a complete brick? So who is lying? Have your bets in gents!

The reason why all tjis DRM stuff is coming up is because Sony DRM policy was uncovered and exposed uesterday morning. The article is floating out their on the internet so someone creates a false story on Microsoft DRM.

He just explained it over on NeoGaf. The day one patch doesn't remove DRM because there isn't DRM on the console as of yet. The OS it comes shipped with isn't complete and has updates that expire after 24 hours of use. However Moonlightswami is currently banned from Xbox Live so is unable to download the fresh 24 hour patch hence being unable to play.

When the first DRM rumors came to light, what did Microsoft said? We don't comment on rumors and what did the xbox community said? Imposible, you are all trolls, wait and see this is all lies. And what happened?

Kaboom!!! It was all true. If the xbox community wants to keep ignoring all these situations as always and enter denial mode then fine but other customers needs to be informed so they have all the information before deciding which console they will buy.
