Just because it's set in a similar time period it isn't a copy.Didn't see many people talking about god of war being a copy of prince of Persia. This whole argument about the game being a god of war copy was founded by ps4 fan boy hate anyway so i don't see why their entertaining it.Rome copied off of Greek culture that is true however Marius looks nothing like Kratos, their backstoies and dead relatives are all very familiar with mythology and general history,Many people us swords,Many people wear sandles,And Marius has no god powers and he doesn't fight giant exaggerated enemies. The games are only similar in background environments and weapons like spears and what not.Everything else is pretty parallel

Nitrowolf23811d ago

Honestly, this is the first time I ever heard of this being compared to God of War. I mean, the game looks nothing like it and in fact seems grounded to reality (unless I miss something?). I don't think the game ever came off as presenting itself as a fast pace hack and slash title, platforming, ect ect that's in God of War. In fact, gameplay is completely different. I don';t get the comparison if there are some.

JokesOnYou3811d ago

Agreed Nitrowolf2, I don't see the comparison both play totally different.

CryofSilence3811d ago (Edited 3811d ago )

Yeah, God of War is actually fun. *troll face* I kid, I kid. Don't crucify me! ;)

I actually never made the comparison between the two. God of War is a Greek crazy action game with over-the-top set pieces, whereas Ryse seems to be a more tame Roman game with a rythmic, gruesome pace (even if it is reportedly like playing a dial phone).

rainslacker3811d ago

I don't ever recall seeing anyone compare the two. They are different genre's(sort of), different presentations, and different time frames for story.

I think the only real quantifiable resemblance is the character's motivations, which are rather cliched and used in hundreds of games or movies, but even those motivations are aimed at different antagonists, and for different reasons.

I'd more likely compare this game to being a ripoff of the movie gladiator, before I'd say it was a GOW type game or ripoff.

Salooh3811d ago

Same here , where did that come from . God of war have completely different gameplay and it's vision is a lot more brutal . Rise gameplay is like assassin creed but in a bad way judging from the videos unless the final version is improved.

Ryse: Son of Rome’ developer explains ‘God of War’ differences

The difference is ryse will get about 65 on metacritic while god of war will get 80+

Bigpappy3811d ago

And then what will happen after might one. Please do tell.

lifeisgamesok3811d ago

I bet you Ryse gets a good score

Xsilver3811d ago (Edited 3811d ago )

we betting alright lets bet

Brazz3811d ago

not 65, but i bet that Ryse will get below 80, for sure!

Tontus3811d ago

The lowest rated GoW is Ascension at 81% (80.63% on Metacritic, worked it out myself) which is still a great average. Does Ryse have a chance at topping that? I don't think so but it would be great for the genre if it is a hit. I think Ryse will average around ~70% based on previews I've read.

Definitely won't come close to the GoW Trilogy though, 93/94% averages won't be topped until GoW4 on PS4 directed by Cory Barlog, even then it'll be very hard to top those games.

To be honest I don't think the games should be compared, they're very different.

bobtheimpaler3811d ago

Ancient Rome just copied ancient Greece anyways.

Joking aside, no matter how 'rooted' in reality Ryse is compared to GOW, there's just no comparing them. One has excellent gameplay and combat that is tough and rewarding on its harder difficulties, puzzles, variety, epic boss fights and story.

Ascension might not have had a great story, it just can't escape feeling redundant being a prequel, but I liked the changes to the combat and the boss fights were awesome.

Ryse has none of these elements. It doesn't have to. But it just doesn't look exciting. It only has it's visuals going for it.

It's combat looks so simple as if it's been designed to hold a monkey's hand. I see that it's more akin to the Arkham games, but those games look more challenging and you ARE punished if you screw up.

There doesn't look to be much variety in Ryse and it looks incredibly linear. It's story might be good, but it doesn't look like were getting anything that's going to be the least bit original if were being honest.

PLASTICA-MAN3811d ago

Yes Pope Kaz Hirai, also the next GOW will look completely next-gen on PS4 with 1080p and 60 FPS and also we are expecting the gameplay to berevolutionar for the series. So GOW4 will be on another level, nothing to compare to Ryse in every term. Sorry, but Rome is nothing compared to Greece, Mars is nothing compared to Ares, Jupiter is nothing compared to Zeus, .... is nothing compared to Kratos,...Oh wait! Marius? ...

Blaze9293811d ago

honestly the first time ive seen anyone compare this to god of war.

I mean really...what is there to really compare? It's so different, even trying to begin showing the differences sounds like a waste of time.

Funnymonkey0133811d ago

While everything u said is true there's one thing that is not true witch is god of war copying prince of Persia y cause god of war is the game that redefined how fast pace quick time action game is today. POP in a lot of ways is like RSOR.

Insomnia_843811d ago

Why is God Of War being compared to this borefest????

mrpsychoticstalker3811d ago

I played the God of War Trilogy, there's a lot of similarities if we compare gameplay. Not on the story. kratos is always upset, this general isn't. Whatever the case this game will turn out to be as big as God of war over the years. Watch and see Mr troll.

bobtheimpaler3811d ago

@mrpsychoticstalker

If Ryse becomes popular, then that's a sad sign for games.

Torkith3811d ago

@mrpyschoticstalker

"Ryse: Son Of Rome Is As Fun As Dialing Phone Numbers"
- Game Informer

Doesn't sound like its off to a great start...

rainslacker3811d ago (Edited 3811d ago )

I'm sorry mrpsychotic. If Ryse were a mid-gen or late gen release, and was multi-platform, it would likely not gain any foothold outside a loyal following, not unlike games such as Boyonetta have gotten since Nintendo picked it up.

The game is certainly pretty, but the game play looks lacking, and the story seems pretty cliched.

The best thing Ryse has going for it is the fact that it's a launch games, where new IP's can thrive, and that it is very pretty.

However, the game play is nothing like GOW. The pace is slow and the motion isn't as fluid as GOW. There is nowhere near the variety of moves that the player can perform that GOW has. Unlike GOW, the QTE events aren't even that interesting in Ryse. Maybe i've missed it, but I haven't even seen any of the puzzles that the player would be presented with in Ryse, which were quite creative in GOW at times. There is no leveling system where you learn new powers in Ryse, unlike GOW which had many.

Instead of making a hyperbolic statement such as you did, "There's a lot of similarities if we compare game play", why not expand and say what those similarities are. Because I'm just not seeing it.

Deadpoolio3811d ago (Edited 3811d ago )

Um Spartans and Persians completely different....Last I checked there were no Spartans in Prince of Persia....You couldn't have picked 2 games that are more far apart in comparison...Unlike mediocre looking Ryse...Thats Ok though much like every Crytek game except for Crysis 1 it will get mediocre reviews be called pretty to look at but boring.

rainslacker3811d ago

There won't be any Spartans in Ryse either. Spartans ceased being Spartans(in the context you reference) about 250 years before Ryse takes place. Actually before as their military prominence had dwindled significantly for the 200 or so years prior.

If there are Spartans in Ryse(Like you see in the movie 300), then it will be pretty inaccurate historically.

Trekster_Gamer3811d ago

Lmao the disagrees fron jealous sonybots. I am glad to have them set to ignore.

ThwPharaoh. You make good points and they can't stand it.

mrpsychoticstalker3811d ago

You are definitely right. I love all of the god of war titles. They are amazing and I expect more of kratos to come. But this game ryse is looking awesome in terms of graphics and story and the fact that its based on reality makes it even better. THE ONLY GAME GOW SHOULD BE COMPARED WITH WAS DANTES INFERNO. We don't hear anything from them anymore.

Funantic13811d ago

Ryse looks way more real and God Of War looks like a cartoon animation. GOW has all those light orbs floating around and various creatures. They look nothing alike. Ryse reminds me of the movie 300 mixed with Gladiator. Now Onimusha, God Of War, Dante's Inferno, and the new Castlevania have way more in common with each other. People are trying their best to make Ryse seem like a less original game and appear like a copy cat. When actually it'll be the best looking action slasher game ever created so far. Ryse 2 is already on the horizon.

Volkama3811d ago

The combat doesn't look much like God of War. I sincerely hope they don't have the puzzles of God of War. The setting isn't the same as God of War.

Why does this game get compared to God of War? Because aesthetically there are vague similarities? Or just because most other games have guns?

ZBlacktt3811d ago

This game shouldn't even get compared to well established AAA games. That's giving it far more credit then it's ever earned. Let it come out and let people play it. I played it at PAX over the summer and I'll just keep my comments to myself. It's nothing like GOW btw.

xPhearR3dx3811d ago

Good because God of War is nothing but a button mashing headache.

ZBlacktt3811d ago

Lets see, God of War been around for years. Very well established in the gaming world. This game, 95% of everyone reading and looking have not played it. Just watched Youtube videos.

xPhearR3dx3811d ago (Edited 3811d ago )

I didn't mention anything about this game. I'm not even getting an Xbox One. I'm getting a PS4. I'm just saying you saying this shouldn't be compared to well established AAA games is hogwash. God of War (like omi25p said) has great graphics and an interesting story, but the gameplay is terrible.

@PSVita

Yes, I played all of them up to God of War 3. I finished GoW 1 because it was fresh and new. 2 I got quickly bored of, and 3 didn't last long at all. I only tried 3 because it was on the PS3 instead of PS2.

PSVita3811d ago

Have you ever played GOW?

TomahawkX3811d ago

Pretty sure Ryse is the poster child for button mashing and QTE.

Tontus3811d ago

Button mashing headache? What's wrong with you?

MysticStrummer3811d ago

"God of War is nothing but a button mashing headache."

A minority opinion at best.

AceBlazer133811d ago

button mashing in GoW won't get you far so I don't know what crap your spewing.

this is coming from someone who dislikes the series.

Good i cant stand God of War. Interesting story, Great Graphic, Terrible gameplay. Imo

Utalkin2me3811d ago

Yeah usually people that hate God of war, is mediocre at strategic classic gameplay.

shivvy243811d ago

actually the gameplay is great, but I suck at it lol

Tontus3811d ago (Edited 3811d ago )

So terrible that the series has become genre defining to the point where everything released in the genre is measured and compared against it.

The most acclaimed and bestselling games in the genre of all time aren't terrible in any aspect, even the worst GoW is great. So, you're saying God of War has many millions of fans, countless accolades and consistently garners critical acclaim despite 'terrible gameplay'? Sounds unlikely to me.

Dohv3811d ago

Usually people who hate God of War don't even own a PS.

omi25p3810d ago

Tontus.

IMO: IN MY OPINION. Its was at the end of my sentence meaning. In my Opinion i think the gameplay in god of war is terrible.

I also think the gameplay in Dantes inferno, Bayonetta and any other "hack and slash" games are terrible.

I never said they are terrible games i said i don't like them.

@Dohv.

My PSN username is on my N4G Account. Please feel free to look me up before you fail to call me out over my owning of a PS.

Legion,

He started gaming on 360 and is a kid. Sad really. Ages of great games that are missed from those kids growing up with a biased attitude.

scott1823811d ago

God of War is one of my favorite games, very fun! I agree with other people on here, I don't see similarities between the two.

Brazz3811d ago

ok, not all of us need to be on the same boat...
If you are a pc guy, go for Pc... if you are nintendo, go WIIU... and if you are microsoft go X-1... there is no wrong choice, there is only the "better choice for you"...

I'm going on Sony boat for now, but this can change... and for you, well... if you fell like going on sony Ps4 boat one day, i'd say "play the 3 GOW games, they are amazing!"

urwifeminder3811d ago

Fair comment I always found games else where born in 73 so no nukacola I did not start gaming on the 360 I started in arcades and then c64.

Seems like more of Batman type game. I'll be playing this and Dead Rising.

It was a great game, it had issues but it can only go up from here.

crazyCoconuts616d ago

It was just ok. Looked really good for an Xbox game though

Snookies12616d ago

"for an Xbox game"

Way to subtly throw shade there. It looked amazing compared to any game at the time it was released.

Never played it myself though, wasn't really interested in it personally. Plus it came at a time when I didn't own an Xbox console. But it was at least different than the usual copy/paste games we get. So I hope it gets another chance sometime soon.

Crows90616d ago

It was a crytek game though

1nsomniac616d ago (Edited 616d ago )

It was a stunning game on all basis. One of the standout games for Xbox as a whole. I ended up buying on pc as well… and yes nothing looked better than it in PC at the time either. Nothing just ok about it, definitely needs a sequel.

fr0sty616d ago

@snookies12, don't pretend like the Xbox One didn't struggle with being gimpled by its tiny pool of ESRAM as a frame buffer. It was significantly weaker than the PS4.

crazyCoconuts616d ago

Metacritic 60, user score 6.4. I'm not alone in putting it into the "ok" category...

VenomCarnage89616d ago

@snookies
Haven't played it but at least you know enough to defend Xbox over it. The game did look good, for an Xbox game. That's not some "subtle shade," it's full on reality.
I remember it being nearly the only graphically decent game on the Xbone for like the first two years after launch, and graphics were that games strength

ManMarmalade616d ago (Edited 616d ago )

The qte's were disappointing though. God of war was doing it back in the ps2 days. As gorgeous as the game was, the gameplay needed to be updated.

annoyedgamer616d ago

I really liked the original Ryse but Crytek doesn't have the funds. The mismanaged their properties and let EA raid them with Crysis for the duration of their relationship. Right now they are working on Crysis 4, I doubt they can spare resources to work on a Ryse sequel.

gamer7804616d ago

It would have to be funded by MS, I really liked Ryse sure it got repetitive but the setting visuals and story were good

moriarty1889616d ago

MS should have funded a sequel to Ryse and Sunset OD. Two good franchises they definitely needed last gen.

annoyedgamer616d ago

MS is too busy trying to become the next EA, Ryse wont be on their list of titles to finance unless it gets a hipster makeover with lootboxes.

darthv72616d ago (Edited 616d ago )

I recently bought it for the steamdeck and have to say... 60fps is a game changer. I really wished MS had gotten a one x patch or series boost mode option but sadly, nope. Other games that definitely deserve a second chance (esp on steamdeck/pc) are quantum break and sunset overdrive. Both deserved 60fps support on one x / series but you have to go to PC for that.

Rumor has it Crytek had plans for a Ryse 2 but due to the low turnout for XB (at the time) it was shelved. They really should give this another shot. i dont care if its multiplat on PS and XB and PC and Switch... just so long as part 2 gets made.

babadivad616d ago

The game is automatically boosted on Series X

darthv72616d ago

sorry... but it's not. It still runs at the same fps the XBO did.

lelo2play616d ago

Game was good enough, not great.
Graphically it was top notch. Still holds well till this day.

Crows90616d ago

It only needed more enemy variety and few more movesets or weapons to use. That would have made the experience tons better.

MadLad616d ago

It was a good game.
Only time I saw quick time events actually make me feel engaged.

This is not what I would call value for money spent. They give you quests in liveservice games to get you "re-engaged" with the monetization schemes or to get you hooked or so you at least spend some extra on skins and loot boxes. Then they dole out paltry points after you have already paid extra for whichever liveservice within a liveservice that you are already paying for. My worry is people can't actually be that stupid to fall for this, can they?

littletad622d ago

Absolutely nothing in this comment makes sense. At all.

anast621d ago (Edited 621d ago )

How does it not make sense? O thy god of reason, shine some evidence upon us. Ryse of Rome, ESO,and AC: Origins are all live service games, between them you can get 275 points. Liveservice games are made to keep people spending. Therefore, Gamepass is a live service and the points are for playing live service games.

It is not my problem that this does not make sense to you, it is absolutely your problem. I mean it is all your problem.

Julion0715621d ago (Edited 621d ago )
