How Japan can win back the West

If Japan is going to win over the Western market once again, it's going to have to stop outsourcing Japanese games to Western developers. That's not what we want (just ask Capcom). If Japan want to appeal to Western tastes, give us Western friendly templates but developed and seen through the eyes of a Japanese development team. The quality of Western design combined with the flair and flourish of Japanese development.

How about bringing localizing games instead of favoring the japanesse community then maybe u might see some fanfare in the west

SegaGamer3819d ago

PSO2 being the main one for me.

By advertising their games here.

Japan already makes the better games

Trekster_Gamer3819d ago (Edited 3819d ago )

Debatable...

RPGrinder3819d ago

Yeah , yeah they do by every measurable standard.

Metacritic, Sales, whatever. Look at the top of gamerankings and see what the top 2 rated games this gen were and what region they come from

Trekster_Gamer3819d ago

No, I don't think you are correct. At least as the west sales are concerned. Games made here and in Europe sale much more and are made just as good and in many cases far and away better.

Hicken3819d ago

Well, it IS debatable, in that it's something that can be debated. I have to say, there are probably more Western games in my favorites this gen than ever before.

That said, sales aren't a good indicator, since most Japanese games tend to cater to niche crowds and not the majority. And there were still quite a few Japanese titles that made big impressions on me.

Of course, it's all relative, as last gen there were almost NO Western games in my favorites(everything was an RPG). Even so, there's no shortage of great Japanese titles on the market.

The primary problem is that not enough of them came West.

MGS series and the souls games are enough reasons for me.

It is certainly a tricky situation for the video game industry in Japan. They need the sales from western markets but for some franchises like Final Fantasy, Resident Evil and Devil May Cry, the changes that are made end up alienating the fanbase.
Perhaps it is just a shift in tastes due to the rise of the Playstation and Xbox, along with the average age of gamers now at about 30 years of age.
