Microsoft engineer confirms that the Xbox One will be able to drive the PlayStation 4 just fine

PA - "So the question my son had about the Xbox One, and I thought it was pretty goofy at the time, was whether you’d be able to hook up the PlayStation 4 to the Xbox One to play Killzone while taking advantage of the other features that come with the Xbox One."

Lawl... That's pretty hilarious, and kind of awesome in a way.

kneon3813d ago

Sure it will work, by why would you want to? It's just going to introduce extra lag.

theWB273813d ago

The article states no lag that the eye can detect. He states he and his son play the 360 through the X1 all the time.

Article titles only tell so much. Click to read more...it won't hurt.

I guess you would know best, since you clearly did engineering on the project, and you obviously, OBVIOUSLY read the article.

kneon3813d ago

There will always be extra lag when passing through another device, how much depends on the device. But still what's the point?

theWB273813d ago

The point? Some people don't have flat screens with enough HDMI ports. If they happen to get both systems and have a cable box, but their tv only has two ports. Wow, look at that..you can plug the cable box into the X1 and have the PS4 use the last port.

Boom...3 HDMI devices hooked into a 2 HDMI tv. Simple stuff really...

Scatpants3813d ago

You could get xbox live notification while playing PS4 you could also switch back and forth from PS4 to xbox one with voice commands. I will probably do this when my Xbone comes in the mail. If the lag isn't noticable why wouldn't you? I'm only debating weather to hook my HTPC or my PS4 to it.

BISHOP-BRASIL3813d ago

@WB

Or you can use a 5 bucks HDMI switch and have no added lag at all (visible or not)... Just saying.

FriedGoat3813d ago

@WB
I hate it when people try to tell me I can't see lag, maybe it's my history of fast paced twitch shooters such as quake, but I can tell the difference from 10ms to 20ms. If I can get it lower by directly connecting it to a TV, that's what I'll do. Why be at a disadvantage by stupidly putting it through a pointless device?

Prime1573813d ago (Edited 3813d ago )

I know you're taking a lot of heat for this comment because apparently an MS employee (which would most likely lose his job if he didn't imply otherwise) said this.

I, just, am skeptical. I'm not saying that I'm completely doubtful, but I would like to actually feel it in action. As someone who was really competitive in FPS games (like CS1.6 and stuff, I've learned that even 1-5ms, yes 1ms, can really throw off your game.

Think about it, if you and your opponent both have a 15ms reaction time, but your rig has a 1-2ms delay more than his/her's... you're going to die more often than not.

rainslacker3813d ago (Edited 3813d ago )

OK, but didn't a while back when one PR guy was asked if you could hook up a PS4(or was it a 360) to the system said you could, but it would possibly have some lag due to the nature of HDMI passthrough?

Edit:
Yep, indeed. Penello said this in September.

UltimateMaster3813d ago

"Once the dust settles, we'll show how you can have 1080p games on the Xbox One."

And that is by plugging your PS4's HDMI to the input of your Xbox One and there you go, 1080p games for the Xbox One.

devwan3813d ago

“It is an extremely small lag that the human eye will not be able to perceive,”

Would that be the same kind of "imperceptible" lag that Kinect introduces?

http://abload.de/img/kinect...

Yeah, no thanks.

Gamingcapacity3813d ago

I don't like the idea of paying for the electric to run 2 consoles just to get an extra HDMI port.

Actually not sure I can afford 2 console lol.

Funantic13813d ago

Probably less lag than the vita remote play

pixelsword3812d ago (Edited 3812d ago )

"It’s fun to make someone from Microsoft squirm a bit by asking these questions. So I can play games using a competitor’s console while using all these neat Xbox One features? “Um, you could...”"

Great! Now I just need a reason to want to switch from the PS4 to the Xbox One.

Just kidding. :)

Has anyone noticed that there seems to be some underpinnings, I am almost willing to go as far to say almost subliminal, effort to make people think that Killzone: Shadow Fall is on the Xbox One? This article is worded like some things I've read, seen, and actually heard over the months...

I mean, just look at the way the first paragraph is worded, and look at that pic they use.

then what about that MS ad?

http://www.sonyrumors.net/2...

There's something to all of that.

...curious.

This is awesome, I would totally do this if I could afford to buy both consoles.

Blaze9293812d ago

this is actually pretty useful. I'll be getting both PS4 and XB1 but holding on to my PS3 and 360 as well. I don't think I have enough HDMI ports

Jaqen_Hghar3812d ago

"it can have a PS4 plugged in to it!"

MS's first bullet on the store ads

solid_snake36563812d ago

Why would anyone run the ps4 through such inferior device

mrpsychoticstalker3812d ago

Loooooool

Entertainment:  Much to the chagrin of gamers everywhere, Microsoft chose to focus on TV and entertainment options in its Xbox One reveal rather than games. But by now, we know that the system has games and, exclusives aside, they’re a lot of the same games the PS4 has. A wealth of entertainment options, complete with Kinect controls, represent a valuable expansion to the capabilities that Microsoft slowly added to the Xbox 360 over the course of the previous generation. Microsoft’s partnerships with the likes of Time Warner Cable, Verizon Fios, Comcast Xfinity and the NFL make this a very attractive option to gamers with cable. Plus, a Halo series produced by Spielberg is hard to argue with.
Add in MP3 support, DLNA streaming and audio CDs, and Xbox One can handily serve as an entertainment hub for the whole living room. I play games as much as anyone, but I still use my console for a whole lot of other things. It’s worth making those things a priority as well.

"What do you play on the PS4 the most"

"Oh I can't decide...Killzone Shadow Fall, Knack, Assassins Creed 4, Battlefield 4, a load of indie games"

"What about your Xbox"

".............Killzone Shadow Fall, Knack, Assassins Creed 4, Battlefield 4, a load of indie games"

lol

KwietStorm_BLM3813d ago

The whole thing is a meme in the oven.

-Foxtrot3813d ago

Yo I heard you like your consoles, so we put a PS4 in your Xbox One so you can play on a PS4 while your on your Xbox One

....something like that

GuruMeditation3813d ago

@-Foxtrot like it, but to fit the meme its gotta be "Yo Dawg, I heard you like games? So I put a game in your game so you can game while you game. In 1080p."

mistertwoturbo3813d ago

This is all in good fun, but seriously nobody's going to buy a $500 hdmi port. Lol

Edward753812d ago

True fanboy statement. Mistertwoturbo.

So much hate from both sides, your comment says it all.

"Oh no, the 500 dollars is only an HDMI port!!"

Think about the only reason you would say that... One that makes sense. And reply.

Both systems will do well, and it will be nice to have both running. Not just as an hdmi port, but running through, and possibly split screen. Even possibly being able to switch from an mmo. I'll be playing on PS4 (ff14) to a game like dead rising, then pause and go back to 14 when the duty finder notifies me.

The best feeling is going to be having both to even try this, to see if it is viable. Not just putting up statements like yours mistertwoturbo.

mistertwoturbo3812d ago

^The only real fanboy is you for not being able to take a joke.

Edward753812d ago

Well I guess, I always say , "but seriously" before my jokes.

That was sarcastic.

UNKLE3813d ago

PS4:lots of multiplatform game and 2-3 exclusive? no thx...PC better

Jaqen_Hghar3812d ago

20 exclusives from first party in the first year actually (ie not even counting The Order or the Indies or Deep Down since those aren't first party studios) 12 of which are new IP

Major_Glitch3812d ago

PC better? Lol. Yeah...no. I like gaming on my big screen while sitting on my couch.
