Don't Expect Big Surprises From PS4 Launch Event On Spike TV says Yoshida, Contradict Keighley Words

If you guys were expecting exciting news and surprises from upcoming Playstation 4 launch event on Spike TV, prepare to get disappointed

porkChop3817d ago

All he said was "no", and knowing Shu he's probably being sarcastic. He loves to troll people.

abzdine3816d ago

i prefer not to expect anything. i'm glad of what i'm seeing and what PS4 has to offer.

cleft53816d ago (Edited 3816d ago )

I would much prefer for Sony to under promise and over deliver than for them to hype up something like it is going to be the second coming.

Now I can be pleasantly surprised by whatever they show, without thinking there is going to be some crazy reveal. Before this people where talking about a Demon's Souls 2 sequel being revealed or more info on The Last Guardian. That would be great if it happened, but most like it won't which will just mean you will be disappointed in whatever they show, even if it is a cool new game or feature.

Blacktric3816d ago

"i prefer not to expect anything."

This. Also Keighley is an overhyping hack, so I'd just go in with low expectations regarding megaton announcements.

kreate3816d ago

I prefer to expect something from spike this year. there's always something new sony shows on spike.

at least a last guardian release date or something.

chazjamie3816d ago

i must the ps 4 luanch line up is probably the worst line up i have ever seen for a new console. its so shit compared to that of the ps 2. might be an improvement over the ps 3 launch but thats not saying anything at all.

UltimateMaster3815d ago

We weren't expecting any new games to be announced.
That is reserved for E3 2014.

I don't know. He is usually pretty straight about things and knowing Geoff, who bigs up everything (even the smallest of things), I wouldn t be surprised if there isn't anything. But like you said it could be Yoshida trolling but I am not getting my hopes up

DragonKnight3816d ago

Last year he said the same thing. Geoff called for surprises, Shu literally said "Don't expect any" and then after... trollface.

But if he says "No" he usually means it.

xZeratul-DTM3816d ago

@Dragon - I think troll, simply because if he said 'Yes, expect something' then as a gaming community everyone would be expecting something bigger than what it actually is and risk everyone being disappointed because of the hype we as gamers generate, for example GT5 when they kept delaying it so much and then everyone took it as it was going to be some game from outer space and when it arrived it was pretty much exactly how it should have been yet people were still disappointed because if the expectation.

Sort of apples and oranges but you see the relevance to a degree.

xPhearR3dx3816d ago

Why the denial? Seriously, not everything PS has to be a "big surprise". We're talking about Geoff here who hypes EVERYTHING up to get people excited to watch the stupid show. If you expect big, you're going down a path of possible disappointment. Instead, expect nothing crazy and if nothing crazy happens, it's all good. If something crazy does happen, then now you have a reason to be excited.

christrules00413816d ago

That is a good way to go through life. A lot of people always expect big or huge things to happen to always set themselves up for disappointment. Keep expectations low and then be hyped when something bug does happen. Even going in for a job promotion I never think I'm forsure going to get it.

MarkusMcNugen3816d ago

You two just described pessimism.

xPhearR3dx3816d ago

@MarkusMcNugen

No. I just know when to not get all hyped up over something Geoff says when 90% of the time he's hyping for the sake of getting people to watch the show and it turns out to be something not so amazing.

Remember when Sony teased that picture on Twitter and EVERYONE went ape shit thinking it's going to be some megaton game. Turns out it was a stupid Ratchet and Clank downloadable title.

I get hyped when I see results, not BS teases.

Utalkin2me3816d ago

@xPhearR3dx

"Turns out it was a stupid Ratchet and Clank downloadable title. "

This says everything i need to know about you.

CanadianTurtle3816d ago

I agree. These Playstation fans on this site can get really annoying sometimes. Don't worry about them. Let them get all delusional and hype it up for themselves. It'll be funny to see because they'll be disappointed in the end.

There's no point being in denial. If the man said "no," isn't that enough? Please give me an instance where Shu said "no" and there was actually a big event in the end

Xsilver3816d ago

xbox fans on playstation article calling playstation fans annoying go figure :/

Boody-Bandit3816d ago (Edited 3816d ago )

I don't think Sony will be showing upcoming blockbuster titles for the PS4 until the VGA's or other gaming events. Why would they do it launch night? That doesn't make any sense to me. We are already lining up to get a PS4. We don't need any more incentive or we wouldn't already be in line.

xPhearR3dx3816d ago

@Utalkin2me

Really? There's 9 Ratchet & Clank titles on PS3 if I'm not mistaken. Probably more. That's more than one a year since launch. One that's just stupid. Two, why get excited over a game they've been milking the crap out of since the launch of the PS3.

Ratchet and Clank was great on the PS2, ever since it hit the PS3, it's became a milked chore of bordum.

i don't get it, guy says no and you all think he's joking? What kind of logic is this now? Now you're just setting yourself up for disappointment.

We all know Geoff is a tool who hypes up anything from a new game announcement to Doritos announcing a new flavor.

torchic3816d ago

ALL HAIL DORITOS POPE, GIVER OF DORITOS TO THE WORLD AND ALL WHO INHABIT IT

PRAISE BE TO HIM! HOORAH! HOORAH!

porkChop3816d ago

What kind of logic? I'm not saying that something big will be shown for sure, all I'm saying is that Shu is constantly trolling people every day on Twitter. So, I don't know, maybe there's a chance he was trolling this guy?

I'm not setting myself up for anything, I was just pointing out the fact that him saying "no" doesn't necessarily mean no. Obviously the opposite could be true as well.

extermin8or3816d ago

read the ps blogs post on this they say "exclusive debut's and trailers for the ps4 games that will define 2014" or words to that effect... really thing there aren't going to be new game announcements... new exclusives?

Xsilver3816d ago

Come On guys lets be real you think Sony would have a Big event the day that close to the release of the PS4 and not show Something New of course they will but then again we will see.

ruefrak3816d ago

Not always. When TGS came around somebody asked him if there would be more announcements at the show and he said no, everything had been said at that early presser. A lot of people thought they were just teasing and going to show off something grand at the show, and then nothing happened. Turns out he was telling the truth.
It's probably going to be the same here. Just a recap of everything coming out and hyping up the launch of the console at midnight.

hellzsupernova3816d ago

It is the perfect timing, imagine announcing the next naughty dog, Santa Monica and epic games the night of the release, it would be a huge boost

PlayStation_43816d ago

BTW, he also said "no" to the same question about gamescom!

So don't expect any *major* surprises, but some cool announcements nonetheless!

SaturdayNightBeaver3816d ago

Just look at this man, this is how job is done. He is always fun and cool and stuff :D Not like those shady and negative xbox people.

extermin8or3816d ago

Look at ps blog post they mention showing the games that will define 2014 for playstation 4.... I don't believe they'll just be 3rd party... might be like destiny as it has PS exclusive content etc. But otherwise I expect to see a new game or two-besides what Yoshida considers a suprise or something that we should expect mean he might not technically be lying... if Naughty Dog announced say uncharted 4, or Dark Souls 2 got announced would anyone really be surprised...?

Jaqen_Hghar3816d ago

If a man expects a big surprise then a big surprise wouldn't be a big surprise because it is expected and therefore not a surprise at all.

Bathyj3816d ago

You just wrinkled my brain...

showtimefolks3816d ago

means we can expect something lol, shu is awesome but you can't expect him to say we will reveal something big

Ausbo3815d ago

He's definitely trolling.

Why would he just say "No"

Expect One big announcement and some smaller stuff.
Although Geoff Keighly always hypes everything beyond belief and always underdelivers

MrZkaar3815d ago

I hope Shu is trolling. I want shock and awe, nothing less. Bring it Sony!

Majin-vegeta3817d ago

Of course they wont. The big titles are mostly announced at the major gaming conventions. It wouldnt make sense sincr everyone will be in line waiting for their PS4.

Volkama3816d ago

^^ This. Let the enthusiastic buyers ride their Killzone hype, and announce games where it will have more impact.

Crossbones3817d ago (Edited 3817d ago )

Welp, There goes my wishful thinking, but you have to wonder. Why does Epic Games have a countdown clock set for PlayStation 4 All Access event?

christrules00413816d ago

They have a countdown? I'm on there website and I can't find it....

christrules00413816d ago

Thanks for the link. It's very much appreciated. =)

TOGC3816d ago

They will be probably announced at the VGAs.

mkis0073816d ago

I'm surprised no one laughed. Can I expect big things? "no"... You think he would say it like that if he was serious?

andibandit3816d ago

Well apparently it dosnt matter what he says

The Game Awards will beef up security to prevent stage-crashers this year

Don't expect a repeat of last year's on-stage weirdness.
One of the more memorable moments in the 2022 Game Awards came courtesy of a kid who crashed FromSoftware's acceptance of the Game of the Year award for Elden Ring. Don't expect something similar to happen in 2023, though

H9138d ago

They should, it's a disgrace, it couldn't get worse than last year

RaidenBlack138d ago

well they did Wishlist for the next GTA last year ... and we final got the official announcement this year .... so ...
...
any "Bill Clinton wants to play Half-Life 3"-stage-crashers this year, plz?

anast138d ago (Edited 138d ago )

The stage crashes made a boring sales pitch fun. But yeah, there is a security concern.

H9137d ago

Well it's more that stealing the thunder from From Soft last year, the GTA guy was at the start of summer game show so people forgot about him as the show gone on, but the bill Clinton guy stayed talked about the most

RAFTECH26138d ago

They need to..... because of what Lord Spencer will announce.... will make everyone throw a fit

jambola137d ago

Last year is was a kid making a joke
At summers games fest it was 2 worthless pathetic adults crashing the middle to be assholes and copy a child for attention

Geoff Keighley Confirms Summer Games Fest Will Return For 2024

While Summer Games Fest 2023 is still ongoing, with a couple more showcases to come, the games fest man himself, Geoff Keighley has confirmed that the show will return next year in June, for Summer Games Fest 2024.

“After a record-setting 2023, we are excited to share some news.” Keighley began in his announcement on Twitter. “Summer Games Fest will return in June 2024, including our live showcase event hosted by Geoff Keighley, and Summer Games Fest Play Days hosted by iam8bit. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.”

Christopher309d ago

Considering the format and lack of need to keep a whole convention center and visitors for 5+ days, it was a resounding success. Helped that it was piggy-backed on by all the major gaming sites. Really, this is likely the future of E3 now. I don't mind it.

potatoseal309d ago

Me neither. I do understand why they put the date of Spidey 2 and FF7 Rebirth stuff at the GameFest, but I kind of wish the Playstation stuff was at the Playstation conference.

Towers308d ago

I agree. The only thing I'd say I miss from it is the 'hands on' that journalists use to have with the games. I know some companies invited journo's/game enthusiasts to play some games in advance, so they could give some insight into gameplay once they had been announced, but that explosion of hands on thoughts I kinda miss. Other than that, it was decent. Devolver Digital had a very entertaining showcase and I do hope some other showcases take weirder/more interesting approaches in future.

308d ago
CrimsonWing69308d ago

It’s better than nothing, but it’s nowhere near as epic as old-school E3 with all the theatrics and huge stage presentations.

Hell, 75% what was shown at SGF sucked ass, besides MK1 and FF7 Rebirth, but I’m just glad someone’s trying to fill in the gap.
