AusGamers has taken NBA 2K14 for a spin on next-gen and has written a lengthy preview of what sets this game apart in the series and talks about why it should be considered one of the only true next-gen games launching this November.
"Each arena has its own LED display in the real-world, and while they’ve used a picture-in-picture display to represent this in previous games, it was, for all intents and purposes, a pretty flat and cheap way to do it. Now, however, with the power of the next-gen machines, Visual Concepts has taken lighting to a whole new level, individually lighting each LED light on a whole screen. Each one of these is a separate light source, also. Colours are all correctly separated and illuminate the space correspondingly. Moreover, VC also went to the trouble of not only reproducing every ceiling light in every stadium (and counting them -- some have more, and others less), they looked up each manufacturer to learn all the nitty gritty details behind each light, including what temperature they emit via kelvins. All the lights then play off each other correctly, filling each stadium with unique tones and saturation. And this is just lights."
So NBA 2K14 won’t be joining us in 2016
Its ok I hated 2k14 it was complete ass. 2k16 is miles better you'd be doing yourself a disservice sticking with that old shit.
I think it's pretty sad when they do this to a two year game. But I suppose, when they make yearly releases it's to be expected. But, there are games that still have servers up. I know it's not nearly the same, but I can still play Call of Duty 2 on the 360 online and there is still some people playing. That came out in 2005. A 10 year old game is still active with the sequels also active.
I would welcome a future where sports games just released new updates/add-ons instead of releasing new games each year. Just upgrade the graphics and so on and release a new game every few years maybe.
Realistically, there probably were not enough people playing 2k14 to justify keeping the servers running. It's more practical to repurpose those servers for the newer games that more people play. I'm sure the vast majority of sports gamers moved on to 2k15 or 2k16.
FIBA 2K14 is a full conversion mod for NBA 2K14 PC, featuring international basketball teams that participated in 2015 FIBA, 2014 FIBA World Cup and 2013 FIBA.
Ultimate Base Roster is a full expansion mod for NBA 2K14 PC. It allows you to play almost 300 teams from 60 different NBA seasons from the 70's all the way through the present. Current roster is accurate as of June 18, 2015.
I'm loving the fact the VC is constantly trying to build on it's foundations. They could have easily mailed it in and ported up to next-gen. Mostly, they would have been given a pass. However, instead, they created something that keeps the legacy of the 2K game as a foundation to build upon. Thus far, with the limited amount of coverage, I have been nothing but impressed by what they have achieved. If it plays anywhere close to as good as it looks, then I will be a very happy gamer.
I am buying a PS4 day 1, this is the title I am waiting for (nothing else on the launch lineup interests me)
Can't wait.
