ZombiU: The Unsung Hero Of 2012

Sean Halliday of Pixel Gate writes:

''While the Wii U may be faltering on a number of fronts, I have still had some of the best recent video game experiences on the console. Oddly the newest system on the market managed to recreate some nostalgia, and I’m not talking about Mario.''

ZombieU was one of the best games I have ever played, and I've been playing since before Galaga was in arcades. It is now cheap in the Wii onine shop.

Pixelgate3822d ago

It's not perfect, but it's certainly a brilliant showcase of modern survival horror

Damn... what's up with all the disagrees you guys got? I thought it was good... could have been better, but one of the best launch games for the Wii U.

I think it was kinda half-assed though. Really would have benefited from an online multiplayer mode(s). The Wii U lacks the online of the other consoles, and if Zombie U, NintendoLand and Super Mario U had online MP at the launch of the system, it could have set a precedence for Nintendo's online capabilities. It was a missed opportunity for Nintendo to come out swinging.

"Modern survival horror", maybe, but who cares about that? Modern big publishers' idea of "survival horror" is so deluded, it just means having zombies in it now.

And sadly, not even players know anymore. Most people that played the original RE games or Silent Hill are adults now and the scales are starting to lean towards new players that have never even played a real survival horror game.

MajorJackHoff3822d ago

The disagrees are because most people think the game is mediocre. I tend to agree with the mass majority on this particular subject. But that's just my opinion. It's not a terrible game by any means, I just found it pretty average.

"ZombieU was one of the best games I have ever played, and I've been playing since before Galaga was in arcades"

I don't even remotely believe you, unless you avoided great games for the last 30 years.

Yeah, a pretty great experience.

Almost a year in, and Zombi U remains the showcase game when it comes to Gamepad implementation. Seriously no other Wii U game makes such good use of the gamepad as Zombi U does, and that was a launch title.

Pixelgate3822d ago

Indeed, we'll be having a few more posts on Wii U titles that stand out in the coming days. Zombi U is still the beast example of the pad being used to enhance the gameplay experience rather than be just a gimmick

I know this year hasn't ended yet, but I'd dare say Wonderful 101 will be the Wii U's unsung hero of 2013.

In my opinion, that game is MUCH, MUCH BETTER than the majority of reviews give it credit for. It actually has become my favorite game of all time, and seeing that I'm 31 years old and have been gaming for about 25 years, that's no small feat.

Still havent finished the game but I think it is awesome. I do think there should have been alot more skins to the cricket bat though.

Awesome game. I hope we see a sequel at some point. Very original. :)

The title says the criteria was explicitly written to mention Eternal Darkness. I am happy to see House of the Dead: OVERKILL on here. With the rise of Grindhouse themes in the 2010s, (ie WET), this was one that was both entertaining and camp funny.

Would be nice to see a new Zombie game set in the UK again, some of the landmarks, old architecture and the like really fits in well with the genre.
