PlayStation Plus: November Preview

Blog.PS: It’s going to be quite the month for PlayStation fans. PS4 is almost here, and it’s going to be mega awesome when I fire mine up for the first time and already have two free games to play. Yep, both Resogun, the intense and beautiful shoot ‘em up from Housemarque(the amazing people behind Super Stardust) and Contrast, a unique 2D/3D puzzler platformer with a stunning art style will be available in the Instant Game Collection for PlayStation Plus members on November 15th.

Oh now they want to give us Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen the month the PS4 is out, instead of when EU got it. Bastards lol

xHeavYx3822d ago

We just got Kingdoms of Amalur too, those 2 games would take forever to finish.
And for my VITA I get Oddworld and Soul Sacrifice

xPhearR3dx3822d ago

Meh, I already beat that game on 360 and PC. I played the original Dragons Dogma on 360 and loved it. Would have loved to play Dark Arisen through Oct waiting for the PS4. Oh well.

AlexanderNevermind3822d ago (Edited 3822d ago )

Don't forget Warframe is also available for the PS4 already (trailer looks insane). Man PS+ is no joke. I'm definitely going to have to upgrade my hard drive.

Eonjay3822d ago

The only complaint I have about PS+ is that it is a hard drive destroyer. Oh well, the added expense of getting a bigger hard drive is fully justified when you consider all of the free content you get with PS+

thorstein3822d ago

@Eon It is and it isn't. I download quite a bit, play them and delete the ones I have beaten. If I want to play them again, I have to reinstall, but oh well.

What I am saying is sometimes you have to clean house. With PS+ the games are still available.

black0o3822d ago

@heavy KOA isn't that long .. u can beat the story within 20 hours

Blastoise3822d ago (Edited 3822d ago )

Soul sacrifice on Vita for free is incredible. I payed full price for it on release and don't regret it at all.

Baylex3822d ago

Soul Sacrifice?!?! you were so lucky this time!! ;) While Europe got motorstorm....

MRMagoo1233822d ago

i got kingdoms of amalur a lil while back for free in Australia, but to anyone that has gotten it be it europe OZ US UK , do you guys get that bug where every time you enter a door and then exit it into a major city you have to watch the big entering the city for the first time cinematic, it pisses me off and i checked forums they say it wont ever be patched because the company that made it is now gone, same as the donwloadable content, i bought stuff and it never turns up in the chest no matter if i uninstall reinstall or what ever. I liked the game a lot but those 2 bugs piss me off big time.

GameSpawn3822d ago (Edited 3822d ago )

@MRMagoo123

I don't know about the Digital Version, but I know the retail version (which I have and played) did get a few patches before 38 Studios went bust to fix a few of the issues you mentioned as well as enable the ability to play each DLC. Granted not EVERYTHING was fixed, but most of the really annoying stuff was.

Also, NEVER sign in to the EA online crap. It actually dramatically increases the chance for lockups and glitches.

Also, DO NOT store the House of Ballads armor set until AFTER you complete the House of Ballads quest line and if you do store it NEVER NEVER NEVER NEVER take it out again. If you EVER store and retrieve this armor set it re-flips the set's quest item flag and you will never be able to remove the set from your inventory EVER again. This glitch actually can happen to a lot of specific quest related items making them permanent residents in your inventory -- lucky quest items are either weight-less or so miniscule they don't take up space, but it is still extra line items of useless crap you have to wade through.

Prime1573822d ago

Regardless, I love my PS+ and it's one of the FEW, FEW, FEW, reasons I'm not selling my ps3.

Ha i know, ive still wanted to try this game. Resogun looks awesome.

wastedcells3822d ago

2 great ps4 games and still getting drive club. Plus knack in the future no doubt. Sounds good to me.

nirwanda3822d ago

A bit off topic but does anyone know if there will be any game demos at launch.

redknight803822d ago

Yeah I have wondered the same. I am assuming some demos will be on the PSN at some point during the first week or so from launch.

Pintheshadows3822d ago

I'm pretty sure that every digital game has a demo. That is what Sony has been touting since the announcement anyway.

FamilyGuy3822d ago (Edited 3822d ago )

I'm under the impression that every game except knack will have a demo on nov 15th. They actually went out of their way to tell us the knack demo would come a little after launch.
Earlier in the year they said every ps4 game will have a demo or way to try the game first when it releases. Demos, full game trials, f2p models or whatever, it's supposed to have every game.
It might've been at the february reveal.

abzdine3822d ago

sure there will be demos, but they ain't part of what PS+ offers.
when PS3 came out there were many demos to DL, i think it will be no difference with PS4.

"Oh now they want to give us Dragons Dogma Dark Arisen the month the PS4 is out, instead of when EU got it. Bastards lol"

Lol, yeah how dare they give ps+ subscribers awesome games for next to no money ... wait a minute! O.o

On a serious note, I bought Dragons Dogma: Dark Arisen. Amazing game. Many people who played it say it's better than Skyrim! Personally I think Skyrim was funner to explore, and dogma has the superior combat. Both are great games but they are great in different ways. Play both! ;-)

Ch1d0r13821d ago

For Skyrim well its fun on PC, i wish Skyrim used Demon's Souls fighting style. I hope thats how dogma is. Its gonna be lots of fun.

ThatCanadianGuy5143822d ago

Right as i've been on the fence about getting a Vita, boom, soul sacrifice.I'll pick one up tomorrow while im finishing up some preorders.

So excited.Haven't played a handheld since pokemon red/yellow on gameboy

riceking3822d ago

soul sacrifice is a great game....

KwietStorm_BLM3822d ago

I know whenever I do decide to get a Vita, I'll have a stupid amount of games to download from my history. I've just been wondering if I still want one after the Vita TV announcement..

MAULxx3821d ago

I'd just wait for VitaTV unless your going to be playing alot on the go or on the toilet.
I'd rather play some vita games on my big screen.

Thehyph3822d ago

I am excited for you. Vita is great. Forget the naysayers.

Get a big memory card.

Also, P4G is $10 off on PSN right now. Most people will tell you to buy it before anything else.

mrmarx3822d ago

i have a big memory card and ps plus filled it up quickly.. just like it did my 640gb ps3 hdd

Kingthrash3603822d ago

p4g....buy it before anything else.

akiraburn3822d ago (Edited 3822d ago )

@DayZ As a just a quick thought I figured I would throw out, I'd recommend waiting just a few weeks, as Black Friday sales are right around the corner, and last year I was able to get my Vita from Amazon at a massive discount. At that time, the $250 Wifi model was bundled with Assassin's Creed, a 4GB memory card, and 3 months of PS+ for only $180. So if I were to guess, I'd think that during this Black Friday the Walking Dead Vita bundle could go down to $150, or perhaps even lower.

I'd also recommend getting at least the 16GB memory card so you don't have to keep bouncing games between your PS3/PS4 and the Vita. I was able to find a 16GB card on sale at Best Buy for $30, but when they were out Target price-matched it, so on the off chance that memory cards aren't also having good sale prices during the holiday, keep your eyes peeled and it's helpful to check over at cheapassgamer's forums every so often for info on those deals.

As for games to grab, I'm with Stevehyphen, Persona 4 Golden is perhaps one of the best games I have played in years. I spent months playing through the story, just thoroughly enjoying it. I'm on my second playthrough now, and I can't highly recommend it enough. I haven't touched Killzone just yet, but from all that I've heard it is supposed to be excellent. Next up for me will either be that or Ragnarok. Soul Sacrifice was fun, I just haven't had many people to play it with so I still haven't finished everything up with it. Hope this all helps.

Thehyph3822d ago (Edited 3822d ago )

Ditto.

My bundle came with a 4GB card. I ended up buying an 8GB card at the same time because I knew I had a bunch of games already because of PS Plus.

I got fed up and went back to get a 32GB card a week or two later.

Memory cards are not hot swappable, and swapping digital games is a nuisance. (When you delete a game, you delete the save, too. Gotta make sure you use online storage)

Edit: if you don't trade in or sell your games, then make sure you check the PS Store before buying a game. Example: Dragon's Crown and Killzone were both a few dollars cheaper than any retailer on day one, and they have remained that way. Those aren't the only games that way

thorstein3822d ago

I would second this as Digital Saturday is always ripe with deals.

But, I also would recommend Pokemon X/Y. They are good games if you have the 3ds or new 2ds.

remanutd553822d ago

AT DayZ i would wait for black friday to get a psvita, 32 gb memory card, Little Big Planet, Sly Cooper Thieves in Time, Sonic&All Stars Racing Transformed, Persona 4, Killzone Mercenary, Guacamelee, Sound Shapes, Playstation All Stars Battle Royale and of course all the freebies from ps plus, anyways welcome to the psvita world.

wastedcells3822d ago

What about the 64 cards? When are those coming out? Japan has them already. That's what I've been waiting for before I buy another 32 card.

Toon_Link3821d ago

Enjoy that Vita! With all the content offered from PS+ you will have tons of fun.

This is the first ever month i would have preferred to be a US Plus member.
I'm delighted Binary Domain is coming because now there will be people online so i can enjoy the multiplayer without having to wait 2 hours to start a game.

wsoutlaw873822d ago

Ya i cant believe some of the games eu was getting like ac3 and ud in us were getting discounts.

What, I thought this was dead after Shawn Layden left Sony. I would definitely pick this up if it's true. I have such great memories of playing the MediEvil games on PS1 and I played the PS4 remake. Such a great and underrated series.

Cacabunga8h ago(Edited 8h ago)

A rumored game at a rumored show.. we’ve seen it all

TiredGamer8h ago

Agreed. The first remake was stylistically beautiful and a very noticeable improvement over the original in every regard. And it was reasonably priced and sustainably developed (i.e. not some mega big budget game that was do or die for the developer).

Zeke689h ago

Thanks for the spoilers... :(

RonnySins9h ago

Another day, another remake. Ugh!

SonyStyled8h ago

If you played the original print I can see your annoyance. I didn’t and probably a lot others the past 20 years.

Was it any good? Would you suggest playing the original print of 2, or suggest the remake? Just wondering because I didn’t play the originals as I had an n64 at the time

TiredGamer8h ago(Edited 8h ago)

I played the first remake and absolutely loved it. The quality of life and control improvements were very noticeable. I tried playing the PS1 original and gave up halfway through at the janky controls.

Expect the same for part 2. The PS1 version is janky as heck, but I would gobble up an improved remake day one.

The beauty of this kind of stuff is that I find myself enjoying more retro gaming today, so a relatively low budget classic remake (call it a single-A release) is exactly what is missing from first party releases in the modern age. I don’t want every game to be an unsustainable AAAA endeavor that is just overwhelming in every regard. Truly miss when game releases could be modest-sized surprises and still be commercially successful/viable.

Bring on more quality classic remakes!

DarXyde42m ago

I can see your frustration and mostly agree, but modern remakes of games lost eras ago are fine if you ask me.

I don't know how old you are, but I was a kid when the first Medievil came out. It's really for a new generation of gamers more than anything and the industry is at a point now where there is an insane number of current gamers who missed out on those classics.

If we're talking about remakes of The Last of Us or remasters of GTAV, I'm in agreement. Otherwise, the choice to remake games like Final Fantasy VII, Medievil, Parappa, etc. are fair to me. Even PS2 era games being remade would be welcome to me. Often, the tech updates make it worth it.

Knightofelemia9h ago

Such a good series I also wish Sony would dust off Wild Arms and Legend of Dargoon even the Legend series needs to see the light again.

Omegasyde8h ago

My bets on new Socom and/or Wolverine (since Deadpool 3 is dropping in the summer).

I think one after this state of play will be PS5 pro preorder

InUrFoxHole3h ago

SOCOM! SOCOM! SOCOM!
But please not like Socom 4

"Darkest Dungeon II" is coming to Playstation consoles on July 15th, 2024

"The Vancouver-based (Canada) indie games developer Red Hook Studios are today very happy and excited to announce that their roguelike /strategy/RPG “Darkest Dungeon II”, is coming to Playstation consoles (PS5 and PS4) via PSN on July 15th, 2024." - Jonas Ek, TGG.

TwoPicklesGood10h ago

Don't sleep on this, it's a great day

Michiel19895h ago

I personally didn't enjoy 2 as much as I did 1. Actually didn't even finish it.
I do praise that they didn't just carbon copy the 1st game and added more of everything, but I think that during the process a lot of what made Darkest Dungeon appealing to put a ton of hours in, was lost.

The new mode does look cool and I will definitely jump back into it and try it out.
