Gaming PC vs. Space Heater Efficiency

Puget Systems: Winter is coming, and with the power bills stacking up it may be hard to justify gaming on your ultra-powerful gaming rig. But what if we were to tell you that, watt for watt, your gaming PC produces exactly the same amount of heat as a space heater? Suddenly you don't have to feel like your gaming habits are costing you tons of money during the winter. There has been times in the Winter that I have actually turned my Furnace down (set at 50 degrees) and had 3 PC's running and they made enough HEAT to warm the 2 main rooms that I was in an produced enough heat to prevent the Furnace from coming on.

I saved a lot of dollars doing that for one month as I ran Folding@home on 2 PC's to produce HEAT that I wasn't gaming on and of course while Gaming My GPU's produce HEAT.

Furmark will warm up a Room in TEN minutes especially with Dual GPU's.

But that was with HD4890's and GTX280's

Todays cards produce a lot less heat.

Yup. For years I have been very aware that when my PC is on especially in the winter it generates enough heat to make the smaller room it is in very toasty.

I have good insulation so in the winter I hardly ever have the heat on when I'm in the room, an hour of using the computer and TV puts out enough thermal watts to sit there in a T shirt...

Pretty sweet when you have to use the computer, heater and computer combined- now thats efficient!

Lol, I use the good ol' make a tent out of blankets, and heat it with my 45watt gaming laptop method.
