Damn, not even a year old yet on top of that ninty has no solution or answer for people with the problem and just ship refurbs to compensate. I wonder how many people have had this problem.

I had the same problem, and Nintendo did not transfer my data as well. Could not even use my NNID for a while, since they had to unlink it from the old console before I could recover it. Then I had to redownload my games, but the worst part was losing the saves.

When I asked what the problem with the console was, they said the CPU had to get replaced! I first got this issue during the spring update, so it may lend some credence to all the "overclocking" rumors.

I had everything backed up on an external HDD, but since it was formatted with the old console, it was incompatible with the system Nintendo sent me. So if I want to use that hard drive again, I have to reformat.

The problem is because of the position his Wii U is in. Its not supposed to be upright and it is crammed between the shelves.

That's funny, because mine came with a stand for it to be just as it is in the video. I guess Nintendo doesn't even know it shouldn't be vertical. Either that or you are full of it.

Thats true, but on the video, there is someone who commented them saying that it is best to be put sideways. That is not the only reason why it did that. The system was crammed between the shelf which does not allow for much ventilation. Correct me if im wrong, but that is not so good for a console.

I have never heard of this problem. But then again, I don't spend much time browsing forums. I hope Nintendo finds a way to help people experiencing this problem and fixes the chances of it happening in the first place.

On another note, remember when consoles didn't fail this much. My N64 is still going as strong as ever.

These days it seems that the more advanced technology has higher failure rates than older tech.

This happened to me although I didn't have to send mine in. My console was overheating for some reason when booting up Splinter Cell and it was turning itself off. I thought my console was done for so I just left it off for an hour and it has worked good since. Still don't know what caused it.

And it pisses me off that Nintendo hasn't implemented any sort of power off button when the system crashes instead you have to unplug it from the actual power cord possibly damaging your console. ;)

If you really have this problem, its not going to go away. I first had this issue during the spring update, and it progressively got worse. Nintendo told me they had to replace the entire CPU.

I recommend utilizing your 1 yr warranty before it expires. Several yrs back I got a RROD 1 week after my warranty expired, had to drop $100 for M$ to fix it. Unless you want that lemon console, be wise and get a replacement (not to mention, a year extension free warranty)

When mine crashes it does go off if you hold the power button on the actual.console. Dont use the gamepad it just switches itself off when its crashed

I remember doing that and it didn't work. I was quite surprised when it first froze on me as it wasn't even a week old I got it the day after E3. The Splinter Cell freezing incident was the worst I don't think it has frozen since so I can't really test it out.

Edit: Is it wrong that I still have the plastic wrapping on the actual console? I noticed it gets scratched really fast so I decided to leave it on maybe I should remove it. ;)

I think I read somewhere that it's Splinter Cells problem on Wii U.. and patch should fix that ( I dont know the latest patch fixed that or not)

There is a hard reset, just hold down the power button until it shuts off, works 100 percent of the time- Ninty added it in the spring update..

Hell yeah, it should and must be addressed. The guy paid $300+ for his console, Nintendo should have had a way to fix any loss of data instead of hiding the problem and replacing with an empty console.

From my point of view, the only possible cause would be ventilation issues, since the main fans or on the top of the console.
As for the parts, it's hard to say. Most likely part of the motherboard burned, since the flash memory means the harddrive can't fail, and the CPU/GPU are built on the same die, so heating issues are unlikely.
Tough luck losing all the data. Contact Nintendo to try to transfer it. Get information such as username and password ready. They might ask something else, but that's all they needed from me, along with details on what you purchased.

Never had this problem, and I had my WiiU since launch. I guess I might be lucky. Hopefully Nintendo can fix this soon.

Did have the issue of the red light. But did have an issue wear the contoller wouldnt stay sync. Got all my games and data back.

My Wii U died the other night while doing an update. It froze and became unresponsive. Had to turn it off at the wall and then it wouldn't display a picture on my TV. Done some research and apparently its pretty common. Luckily it still had til November 30th on warranty and its at Ninetendo now getting fixed.
