10 Facts You May Or May Not Know About the PS4

Again, from Computer Bild comes 10 facts that you probably didn’t know about the PlayStation 4 (translated and laid out for you in an easy to read format!) They ran some tests and answered questions via their YouTube and Facebook pages. Some are already known to everyone while some are more informative."

It has a save/sleep mode like pc that takes almost no electricity so I don't think it's really made to completely power down very much. Wake up time is the true test .

If I'm not mistaken I'm pretty sure you can't 'emulate' compatibility for Audio CD.

yeah you can copy files to the PS4 and play them as digital audio files but the PS4 isn't made to read audio CDs or play them.

So only data disc with audio files like mp3s will work. They mentioned this waaaaay back in February but I'm still lost on why. I never buy let alone used audio cds but I never expected them to not work :/

you mean rip them? doesnt seem like thats possible, as I remember reading an article where Sony confirmed that the laser reader on the PS4 is not compatible for Compact Disks, so maybe not even a firmware update would fix this.

I recommend you rip them on your laptop, then transferred them to your PS4 via USB flash memory

Well, I think they're touting 4k media such as movies. I'm not even sure why everyone is so concerned with 4k gaming when:
A: Very, very few people own 4k TVs. And I'd be willing to bet that J.J. Moneybags who does own one isn't wondering when he can play Call of Duty on it.
B: Most games today are still at 720p, so maybe we can get to 1080 before worrying about 4k.

I think the 4k thing is Sony, future-proofing the PS4. It will come and Sony will be the one to push it.
As for Microsoft, I honestly cannot see it as part of their long-term strategy - more a "we could do that too' thing.

There is no long term strategy for the generation of machines that the Xbox One and PS4 are in. Neither are capable of 4K gaming.

And before you start about 4K movies think about this for a moment. A 4K movie is over 100GB in size. You cannot fit that on a blu ray disc and nobody is downloading 100GB movies anytime into the distant future. so much for future proofing, you are talking out of your ass.

Over half of the links on here is about the ps4, yes its an awesome console and can't wait to get mine but I will still like to be surprised about somethings when I open the box and boot it up. No it can't I'm not sure where the author's got his information from but the biggest hard drive available at the moment for a 2.5" 12mm drive is 1.5tb at around £80 or $100. there are larger 2.5" drives at 15mm which won't fit let alone a 3.5" drive which come in around 18mm.

I don't think that games will be able to run off of external drives but I cannot confirm that. You can still put movies and music on them though. My Username is quite fitting yes =D

I wonder at the PS4 lack of ability to play any kind of CD format. As much as it pains me, I sort of understand why it it had to be done.

When the PS3 debuted, it started out with a single diode laser, effectively putting it under a triple format load. A few revisions later Sony started using dual laser configurations in the PS3. That greatly lessened the load off the bluray diode.

I have a hunch that PS4 will have a only single laser as it most likely won't have to contend with the CD platform. (sadly)

Edit: oh yeah... 4k video support! I don't know what I'll do with it right now, so I guess that comes later.

Microsoft couldn't afford to put a $400.00 plus GPU in Xbox One because they would lose to much money! Microsoft has entered the realm of Nintendo where they will not lose money on a console at launch or ever! So with the bad news out of the way lets get to the REAL GOOD news and TRUTH?Microsoft couldn't afford all the souped up new Volcanic Island tech so they compromised. They help AMD with research money towards it and helped them with audio processing! For that Microsoft received Bonaire GPU,but upgraded CU that are hybrid from VI tech!Amd's VI tech with mantle can run at 9 x's the efficiency per CU. Microsofts CUs can run at perfect efficiency in the perfect optimazition at 4x's the efficiency! There is not a Xbox One game running over 1.5 efficiency per core at the moment!There is a couple pushing things and I know you can figure them out yourself.

Now we will begin to cover PRT,tile resources and Mega caches! This article and my post earlier cover the importance of this!Yes the PS4 has it also,but not at the same level or importance as Xbox One!If did it by percentage per say the PS4 would be about 40% efficiency and XBox One would be at 140% efficiency! That is a big difference!The reason why is because Microsoft built this PRT and Tile resource into the system design and APIs! That is why you have to install games to harddrive on Xbox One!Sony can do it,but the system it's self not built for this in mind. Remeber Microsoft and AMD believe coding and game design are changing,This is one way both companies feel the future is head for examples from AMD Amd RAM disk and mantle! Microsoft has made this the basis of Direct X 11.2 up! I think with Ninjas and Mister X's article we have covered this enough lets move to the next topic!

Let's talk about MCU,Spp and off GPU workload processors!I have discussed before what my insiders have said about them!The Xbox One GPU is 1.31tf clocked at 853mhz in old world standards!The Xbox One GPU can clock up to 950mhz in Microsofts own testing,and in fact the first upclock to the GPU was going to be 900mhz.Microsoft didn't go higher with clocks because developers and the API wasn't ready!Microsoft was trying to make API easy for developers to use audio,lighting & shadowing engine and the Mono driver for efficeny of CUs,Remeber we just covered them earlier!They was trying to get the band to run together as smooth and as easy as possible for the API and Devs!So let's cover other MCU and SPP!Some of the MCUs and SPP was added for cloud computing!They could retrieve and hold the data from servers till the CPU was ready for them.The other are for Kinnect and to help with multi tasking the User Interaface!

The insider said Microsoft has a lot off work load gfx caculations done off the GPU and CPU. He said some of the off work load include voxel ray tracing! He said lighting and shadowing takes big performance hits from GPU and CPU!So Microsoft took the workload of GPU to special processors,and caculations on CPU. He said the special processors take the place of GFX Cores. Microsoft couldn't use multiple GPUs because of bandwidth restrictions. So the special processors work as GPU cores without being one.
So I ask I that the DDR3 and ESRAM made the bandwidth equal or higher then PS4! HE responded yes,but Microsoft has a bigger vision. He said Microsoft wants prt and mega texture caches. That will use harddrive and ram so it lowers the bandwidth,but when it's all put together a native 900p game upscaled will look better then a native 1080p game. He said that is an example.He would go more in detail with me at a later time. So this brings me to the rumore VI tech in Xbox One!Volcanic Island tech is not in Xbox One,but it kinda of is.....
