Its great for people who haven't yet bought vita. But not so much for early adopters.

I think so, too. Does this mean Sony plans to discontinue the OLED version? If that's the case, people should buy one NOW. The OLED screen is really, really nice looking and the system will become a collector's item if they stop making Vitas with OLED screens.

Yes. OLED's will sooner or later be out of production fully.

Maybe not next year but, it will come to end now that new models are coming out.

sad but true.. Shops all around Japan seems to be doing a clearance sale for the OLED, I will definitely not sell mine. It's too beautiful!!!

There's no idea when this model will be released outside of japan. Sony also said they plan to produce both vitas side by side.

Basically, starting sometime in the future (maybe even now) the people that run the shops in Japan can only order 3G/Wifi/Deluxe VITA packs. Which retail for around 300 USD.

So, OLED version is officially being widdled down until eventually Sony wont make them anymore.

Massive improvement in battery life, plus cool colours make me want to wait for this vita.

better ergonomics
better battery life 8-12 hrs
1 gb of internal memory
less expensive
lighter weight
lcd tech is more mature than oled
lcd consume less power
lcd perform well under direct sunlight
the yellow tinge disappears at max brightness settings
smaller back touch pad
better back grips

btw this is how reviewers should analyse hardware-objective and precise. great job engadget!

Yeah the battery might be better but the screen can't hold a candle to the oled, well correct me if I'm wrong but I'd rather have a better screen then battery...

Sony has said multiple times that this Vita is for CASUAL consumers. The same people who dont understand or care about the type of screen on their devices as long as it looks good to THEM. The fact that the OLED screen means so much to you implies that this Vita was never intended for you in the first place.

I'm stick rocking the PSP and the screen looks good. If its true that the Vita 2000 screen is better than PSP then I wouldn't mind having Vita2K.

I was also disappointed with the OLED change.

However, having played demos on the 2000 demo stations I can tell that the difference is minimal unless you put them next to each other.

The new model feels so much sleeker and the colors are really cool :( still deciding if I will upgrade :/

But you can't really go wrong with the new model.

I'm actually happy about the change. The OLED they used for the vita was so blotchy that it was distracting in darker scenes. That was my only gripe with the vita. LCD corrects that issue. I'll pick one of these up the moment they are available. Plus, you get more accurate colors to boot. I loved that white/green(-yellow?). Looks nice.

This is why im buying the new version over my current vita now. The batt life in my Vita is garbage. just over 4 hours and its dead.

"Last year's Vita gave us around four and a half hours of gaming and Sony has promised at least an extra hour on the new model. In practice, we got up to eight hours of continuous gaming, and that's with brightness at 50 percent, WiFi on and several downloads during testing. This rocketed up to more than 12 hours when we played through less-intensive PSP and PS1 games. That's substantially better run time than we saw on the first Vita, and it beats Sony's own estimates, too; a pretty respectable run, we'd say. While we didn't time it, more casual use lasted around two days, and you can expect video playback to last roughly half a day. Regardless of whether you're thrilled to see LCD replace that OLED screen, we think the battery savings are worth it."

8 to 12 hrs of battery life.. That's actually impressive compared to what they said in TGS!! The battery life is tempting me to get another VITA, but OLED is nice!!

I really love my OLED on my vita its the only thing that rivals my Galaxy Note's screen I hope the LCD isn't much of a downgrade because i doubt my Vita will last forever and im here to stay Sony!!!!

The two big improvements that I love are the better battery life and the standard charging port. I really like the idea of being able to use a micro-usb charger instead of having to rely on the proprietary cord.
As for the screen, whatever. I jump between the screen on my phone, my Vita, my TV, my PSP, and a 3DS. All of them are different resolutions and different types of screens. It takes a second but once I start playing, I adjust and it's fine.
