That's actually what worries me about next gen: the PS3 and Xbox 360 were loud, because they fans to ventilate quickly in order to bring down excess heat. Next gen consoles however don't seem to push the envelope that way.

You know what's also very silent? My mobile phone running (average looking )games at full HD. You know what's loud? My GTX 680 when it's pushed to the max.
If you're machine is running too quiet, it means you are not pushing it hard enough.
I don't care about playing games on a quite consoles: Games are played loud on speakers anyway so I don't hear the background noise, and there are no battery life issues associated with noisy cooling. Give me more juice instead of making things quieter, otherwise you'll see stronger competing machines (Valve anyone?) taking over with better looking games.

Given the size of the console and the components within I'm eager to see a tear down to find out how Sony have approached the thermal management. They obviously have a minimalist approach whereas MS have gone big box with lots o' holes and a monster fan.

As for power. I'm sure hes right but I'll wait for a neutral assessment rather than a Sony dev story on a Sony site then mentioned on a very Sony N4G.

As for Ripstone. A new PS4 in Liverpool! tomorrows story will be about a burglary at Liverpool based dev lol!

I read an article once about 3D transistors in the PS4 which is one of the main reasons why their cooling system is extremely efficient compared to Microsoft's. I can't wait to see a tear down as well and hopefully we will see one soon.

Why throw in 8 GB of GDDR5 when it's much smarter to throw in 32GB of DDR3 (which is faster than GDDR5) for general purpose CPU and system level access which favor good latency, and top that with another 4GB or GDDR5 (which has higher bandwidth than DDR4) dedicated just for the graphic operations which favor bandwidth over latency?

There are other developers who are talking about the PS4 as well like UbiSoft, Squarenix, Capcom, iD Software and other developers of AAA games. But the reason why we hear so much from indies is because there are a ton of indies in the video game industry and Sony been known to be extremely open to them.

These Xbox fanboys tearing down indie developers are a disgrace to gaming. I'd go as far as saying they're the scum of gaming, since they're downplaying and holding prejudices against the developers who are responsible for some of the most unique, original and creative games to grace the industry, in favour of their blind loyalist support of the hungry publisher machine that thrives on bloated AAA budgets over original ideas.

These are the same people that said they care more about gameplay than graphics or production value, and the same guys that used indie games on XBLA as a talking point of the 360. Yet now, it's all about a game being AAA rather than the focus on actual substance of gameplay.

And the pant-wettingly hilarious irony is that Respawn Entertainment (Titanfall devs) are an independent studio. Oh the glorious, glorious irony!

I have no doubt that the ps4 will be a great piece of tech in pretty much every way and I applaud sony for their excellent approach thus far to the next gen and to their past and future commitment to gamers. I chose MS first for this gen due to a mix of currently being a predominantly xbox gamer and my interest in their launch window games.
What I would like to point out is the fact that much of the positive ps4 statements come from indie devs, as does much of the negative xbox stuff. What I am saying is that I wonder if this is a result of MS past policies regarding the indie community. In other words, while much of it is probably true, I also feel like it may be somewhat overly harsh and even biased. Guys like jonathan blow seem to really hate MS. They kind of have a point, but sometimes I just feel like we may not be getting the whole truth from them. I'm not a huge indie game fan but I certainly do not mind having more games to choose from as well as a more diverse catalog of creative titles.
Again, I'm simply pointing out that for sometime now, I have sensed that xbox may be getting a little too much flack in terms of performance/features from indie devs simply because they are sour with MS about their polices. Good thing MS changed many of their policies on self-publishing etc., but we will see how that turns out.
Does any one agree with me or at least see the same trend?
Again, I don't blame indies for siding with sony so far, but I also feel that they prob have plenty of power to work with on the xbox one and are just kind of reluctant to give MS any positive attention.
An analogy of what I am trying to say would be the current situation with Nvidia. They keep talking about how consoles are "low end" and how PC is the future etc. In many ways, they aren't really lying; however, I do feel like they are pissed at sony/MS for going with AMD for their chipsets and so they are extra focused on creating negative views on next gen consoles. Sort of how many indie devs might know that xbox one has plenty power to support their games but they would rather punish MS for treating them poorly to this point.
