Sony “Actively Looking to Minimize” Putting a Game on Sale, Then Giving it Away on PS+ Weeks Later

"If you read our PlayStation Plus Ask PSLS for September 2013, you’ll know that I was none too pleased about the fact that Rayman Origins on PS Vita had been discounted quite heavily for PS+ members, just weeks before going free in the Instant Game Collection." - PSLS

I had this with the Ico/SotC HD pack, i paid £10 from PSN and played it for a week, before it went for free on PSN+, not a happy chappy at all.
But, i forgive Sony because of all the other games i got to play for free!

dredgewalker3835d ago

At least the game is yours even if your psn plus expires. Though I'd rather purchase a physical copy of any great game I want to own even if it costs me a bit more since I can keep it with me for a long time.

HighResHero3834d ago (Edited 3834d ago )

I agree with you dredgewalker.
If I really like a free PS+ game I will usually just buy it to add it to my collection.
I buy quality games to support good devs.
I also know that free PS+ games, although IMO better than Steam's constant Login DRM are not entirely ours.

Campy da Camper3834d ago (Edited 3834d ago )

Bubs for well said. If Ipick up a game for a few bucks its mine to keep forever. Not that I plan on not having plus but its no big deal. Its almost funny in a way...my friend is die hard Xbox fan and when he comes over he hears me gripe for paying 5 bucks for a 30 dollar game or complaining that I played a game already and now its free and hes all "dude! You get all this for free???? Shut up" Lol

arexw3835d ago

"But, i forgive Sony because of all the other games i got to play for free!"

How are they free if you pay a monthly subscription?

Delusion runs deep among sony ponies

Idba3835d ago

As long as you're subscibed, they are there forever. Also would you rather get a 6 years old game for keep, or a 1 year old game for as long as you're subscibed. Also if you take advantage of all the offers Sony give on PS+, you'll save alot.

Bill_Willson_CIA3835d ago

Xboxers butthurt....

You pay only 60 dollars the entire year and get 1000 dollars in games.....

1000 - 60 = $940 in free games....

HiddenMission3835d ago

here's how they are free if your sub is $50 a year and you get 10 games that's a savings of $600. See the sub is the price of about one title and at least 1 free game is given every month so your collection at the end of the year could grow if you choose to by 12 titles. 11 out of the 12 titles you didn't pay a dime for...so free.

I hope you followed what I said...

Thegamer413835d ago

Xbox owners have to pay for every feature the xbox has to offer, I dont see any of you guys complaining about that when the PS4 offers nearly all of the same features for free.

Id prefer to pay for a subscription for free games than what you guys will be paying for.

monkey6023835d ago

This I can't understand. Sure it's a subscription, but it's a subscription to extras. The value of games I've gotten on plus have been multiples of the price of the service. It's better than the alternative, where I have to pay a monthly subscription to use my other monthly subscriptions! Cough* Netflix, sky player Cough*. Gold is a rip off and for that I can't bear to upgrade from my silver account

Nitrowolf23835d ago

even if every "free" title was worth $5-$10 now at stores, you are still saving and the service pays itself. Yea we don't get to keep them when our sub ends, but TBH I think most people end up deleting the free game after a few months due to the lack of playing them anyway.

tordavis3834d ago (Edited 3834d ago )

Netflix, Skype, ESPN and multiplayer gaming are all free on Xbox as long as you have a gold subscription. Oo

SniperControl3834d ago

@arexq

You carry on playing on Halo 2 or 3 or Assassins Creed 2.

Who is the pony now??

LOL

GuruMeditation3834d ago

Ooh, how original! Change the frigging record. We know the nature of the service and pedantry just ain't my thing, so go split some hairs elsewhere.

FullmetalRoyale3834d ago

Sony ponies?

Couldn't you have been clever enough to at least come up with "Sonies"?

"How are they free if you pay a monthly subscription?"

The same way that the article announcing xbl gold subscribers were receiving Halo 3, claimed it was free(sic).

Campy da Camper3834d ago

Because like live users we will never NOT have plus. That means as long as I am alive I get the stuff for free. So yes, technicaly, once I am dead and my subscription ends I won't have access to them and you can then tell my corpse, "Ha! See? You were renting the last 25 years!"

You got me.

If you buy the game you get to keep it for good without a membership. I don't even own a PS3 but actually buying something and owning it is something I would prefer to do. You seem to get a pretty good deal either way so people shouldn't really complain.

How many people let their subscriptions lapse if they actually use them (bar an actual financial emergency)? When Xbox users say "well you don't really own the game" it's technically true, but I'm not going to stop buying PS+, it sustains itself through the games I get for free.
If you have and use a premium service like XBL Gold and PS+ you almost always keep using it. I know 360 owners that have had Gold without interruption for about 7 years!

Campy da Camper3834d ago

Exactly. I'd give up a lot of things before I give up plus. This argument is so stupid. Its like telling an Xbox fan that they are just "renting" the mp portion of their games since if they don't have LiVE they can't play.

Thanks for playing, Sherlocks lol

Remember Me - A Forgotten Gem

A Capcom classic, Remember Me, has ironically been forgotten in the 10 years since its release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

SimpleSlave312d ago

Sadly, Remember Me is not a forgotten Gem but a case of wasted potential. The best idea the game had was the Mind Remix Segments and the New Paris World setting, neither of which where really exploited or used well. Instead everything comes down to this just being pretty Beat'em Up and nothing more.

It does deserves a re-imagining though. Make it in first person and use something like the current Sherlock Holmes like gamedesign. Use some of that Deus Ex/Hitman mechanics and go all the way with the Memory Remix as the center piece.

Each case takes place in the mind of a victim, either dead, dying, or alive, and each level should be design like a Hitman level. Contained but chock-full of details. Investigating in the real world give you hints and clues as to how you can help or mess up a person's memory. Make this a player's choice. You can add combat but make it tasteful and short IF combat is required. Make the combat fit the narrative and the setting. Like a Boss fight taking place in the Mind of a CEO that's hiding a dark secret. Or a victim injected with some nasty Nano Machines trying to erase her memories so she can't be scanned by the Memory Remix Agent. Stuff like that. Again, make these short, sweet and to the point.

The potential for a classic is there but the original wasn't even close to being it.

blackblades312d ago

I liked the game, couldve been better but you can say that for every game or movie.

Bring it Back | Remember Me

Some may not remember Capcom and Dontnod Entertainment's Remember Me, but GotGame does, making it a part of another Bring it Back retrospective.

IamTylerDurden11106d ago (Edited 1106d ago )

I agree. Personally, Remember Me, imo, was quite underrated. The game was linear and beautiful Neo Paris wasn't available to be explored as much as I would've liked, but as a whole, it was enjoyable.

Graphics were excellent, the art style was terrific and Nillin was a tremendous character that was voiced beautifully. It even had a solid story. Combat was attacked, but going back recently, I rather enjoyed it. The pressen system was genius and the basic flow to action worked. Platforming was terrible, but the overall package was one that i loved and I'd rather DontNod make more titles like this then become complacent making knockoff Tell Tale games. They are going down the same road as TT, using old tech and pumping out inferior products consistently. I know they had interest in a sequel and had already written the script. Capcom just doesn't want it, but I do.

Magog1106d ago

Yeah their walking simulators do nothing for me. Funny that Quantic Dream seem to be going in the other direction. I wouldn't be surprised to see some actual gameplay in their next game.

Relientk771106d ago

I will always see Remember Me as one of the most underrated games of the PS3/Xbox 360 generation. I had a blast with the game. I would love a sequel.

PersonX1106d ago

No point, nothing but a mediocre game.
