Shuhei Yoshida has responded to the rumor about the PS4 Red Line of Death Rumor. Apparently the report is false.

There is a photo of a PS4 with a red light lit up, but uhhh....did you ever think your PS3 was broken when you turned it off...? I didn't...if you don't get what I'm saying, I'll explain, when you turn on your PS3 there are two lights, blue and green, when you shut it off, a red light comes on and the blue and green lights go off, the red light indicating that there is power going to your PS3 but it is turned off, that PS4 was probably off or on the "Stand-by" mode they were talking about at the reveal...for xbox gamer's, red lights mean the death of a console, being that they dealt with the "RROD" (Red Ring of Death) for 3-4 years...

But we all saw actual pictures of a PS4 with the red line of death....smh....denial. Yoshida telling you what you wanna hear again. Like he was gonna say it was true a month before the PS4 comes out. I don't believe him at all. For one he didn't have any explanations. He didn't even deny the pictures. Plus there are reports that more PS4s have done this. Also that clear case that the PS4 is dying in, well when you go into stores, that's what you see most consoles in. They never had any problems before. Those display cases are plenty big and ventilated. You can see big holes to the bottom of them where the cords hang out. If the PS4 can't withstand those minor conditions how can it handle extreme conditions for years to come. The PS4 is said to have small cheaper fans in a too small of a case. You can expect that red line of death to stay on or a lot of malfunctions due to overheating. You know what happens when the doctor sees a red line.

Did you know the X1 is designed to shut down when it starts to overheat, only to start up again once it's cooled down. Did you know most computers and computing devices are designed to do the same things nowadays?

Why would MS(and others) design it in such a way? Curious.

Here's why. Because it keeps the system from frying itself due to extreme heat, otherwise known as RROD or YLOD this gen. The fact that both these systems run cooler than the previous gen, and likely have chips which can withstand the heat more than last gen anyways should be telling enough that both consoles are designed to stand the test of time.

I don't think many people understand how far these types of CPU's have come in a very short period of time in terms of energy efficiency, thus vastly reducing the amount of heat they produce.

Difference I see is that Sony just flat out denies things. They don't put a lot of PR spin on it, nor do they makes statements open to interpretation when dispelling rumors.

When I was searching I saw an article on it. I don’t actually know, so I can’t confirm anything.

To be clear – I don’t know the resolution for every 3rd party game on XBO. I don’t know why people think I would. Do you believe the 3rd parties are giving me a report on the latest resolutions of their games? Or I can just call up and they will share it?

I know the resolutions of our First party games, that’s it.

And, to be clear, I was asking if anyone had a list COMPARING Xbox One and PS4 resolutions. Even in the list above, it doesn’t give me the XBO resolutions for a lot of 3rd parties.

I ended up generating my own list.

Of course he was asked to share his list, and here’s what he found out:
Well my list has a lot of holes in. It basically looks the same as what was posted above – I can’t find comparisons of both platforms for 3rd party titles.

Basically, what I see is that Sony’s first party games are all 1080p. Our games are a mix. And of course you mix inconsistencies on framerates where both KI and Forza are 60fps, DC and Knack are 30, and KIllzone is a mix.

But I was more curious about the 3rd party titles and I’ve found no official comments on their resolutions. Given that, and the fact I don’t know because they are 3rd party games, means I can’t draw any conclusions.

Upon further questioning, he explained how the relationship between the Xbox team and third parties works, mentioning that only very few at Microsoft are privy on sensitive information from third parties.
I’m sorry that peoples’ lack of understanding of our team works, gets translated into me being disingenuous.

OF COURSE we have a 3rd party team that works very closely with publishers.

That team is organizationally separate from the rest of us. Why? Because that team deals with very sensitive information. Remember, we are both a competitor and a partner to our publishers.

To preserve that balance, our 3rd party team isn’t in the habit of doling out information to the rest of the team, including me, whenever we want. I don’t get to walk over there and see whatever I want, or get these types of questions answered because of my position.

So what do you want to be true? That I can walk over and get any piece of information I want about any 3rd party game? Or that the IP of our partners is secured organizationally so publishers are confident that what they share with that team remains confidential?

Because the latter part is true. So yes, a lot of these details I will get near the same time the game actually ships.

So let’s use some common sense. Almost nobody that works on Xbox knows details of 3rd party games besides that team.

Usually if it happens repeatedly in any given situation, then there is either a hardware issue that needs to be resolved, or the user needs to look at ways to allow proper air flow.

As much as we all want this to be true, it simply wont. Electronics work like this because of quality control test.

For example; Lets say that a factory produces and manufactures 2000 PS4/Xbox One consoles.

Quality Control will probably run a test of 1-5% of the consoles at random. To make sure there are no "anomalies" between the first and last console produced.

SO you have to think. If there are 2000 consoles and they only test 20-200 of them. That means they all pass inspection and obviously there will be bad eggs along the way.

Its how manufacturing works, we will never get a perfect product and there will always be a failure rate. The 360 had an absurdly high failure rate, that's why it got so much attention.

Actually the Xbox 360 has the same prevention system, since when i don't know, but it has now.

The other day i was playing GTA V, and my 360 shutdown with 2 red lights, and I turned it back, a message came up, saying that the console has shutdown itself to prevent damage from overheating.

Note: It still works.

Im honestly concerned now about buying a launch console because of this type of issue. Yahoo had an article over the summer where some in the tech community were concerned over the Ps4's casing because it was so small and the design didnt make it optimized for cooling. Then pointed to the size of the X1 which is supposed to have similar power but has a dinosaur of a case with better cooling mechanisms.

Im buying both systems but will go postal if my $1000 plus goes down the drain in yellow or redline bs. Mailing the consoles back are an ultimate headache and inconvenience.

For all those whining if it's real or not - it most likely is, the console is in a non-ventilated perspex case in Spain, it's gonna get a little hot. Countless electronic products - including iPad, 360 slim, PS3, PC's etc - have a shutdown feature when high temperatures are detected in order to protect the hardware. Demo pods are notorious for hardware failures due to their lack of ventilation...that's easy to look up.
I'm sure the One will have a similar feature....neither company wants total hardware failure due to overheating, shutting down before that happens is a good thing.
