Oooooooh, sooooo much N4G hype for this game. Does anyone still play it?

Emilio_Estevez3845d ago (Edited 3845d ago )

It's got a small but steady player base. They really botched the launch. Probably focused on getting it out on May 14 (5-14), instead of focusing on core mechanics. That really turned a lot of people away. A bunch of friends of mine thought it was amazing watching me play, only think the opposite when they played it themselves. It's kind of too much MMO for an FPS fan, and too much FPS for an MMO fan. You'd have to have played it to understand.

That being said, they've constantly been updating it based on player feedback and it gets better with (almost) every update.

In the end the game is F2P, so people will probably play it for a while.

What they really botched was the fact the they took it out of beta so early. They should've made sure they had all the basics covered first. The basics being:

Basic/Racial light, medium, and heavy suits (not things like the commando and pilot suits but the basic suits.)

Basic/Racial weapons

Basic/Racial Tanks and mods

etc etc. Just those things that truly make the game unique the representation of ALL 4 fractions in game. Last time I played it was all Caldari suits :/.

Ghostbob3844d ago

it has about 50,000 players at any one time.

Tony-Red-Grave3844d ago

no. It has only 3K-4K players at any given time the other players are from EVE. My source for that is from the dust patch notes themselves. I'm pretty sure they mention how the dust/EVE numbers are one in the same. If you want you can check on the dust forums yourselfs they'll be able to explain it better than I.

But it's not 50K people playing dust the average is 3K

Emilio_Estevez3844d ago

That is false, but it's not your fault though, the # it shows you in game is all of tranquility (the server), which includes Dust and Eve.

Im waiting for the PS4 version.

Emilio_Estevez3844d ago

I think you might be waiting forever then, literally.

Nah, I remember reading an article that the devs were planning to support this game for as long as the PS9 so im sure a PS4 version is in development. Hopefully with very much needed improvements.

this should be interesting.

Findingcrybabies2997d ago (Edited 2997d ago )

wow. that's messed up. I don't play the game, but shutting it down and then a month after that showing your replacement game after you told the community screw you. LOL. Remind me to never support or play a CCP game. There are games that came out many years before this one and the devs keep the servers up for people.

samden2997d ago

It's on an old console and was nearly dead in the water when it launched. Not much of a community left to anger. Quite frankly, it sucked, and I'm excited to see what the next one will bring.

Tony-Red-Grave2997d ago

From launch to death Dust was only really ever a poor mans M.A.G. God I miss M.A.G and Valor.

Pongwater2996d ago

Dust 514 was free so I don't see your point, but I do find your name ironic.

@Tony - Yeah I still wish for MAG2, or even a PS4 remaster of MAG.

evergrace2997d ago

One of the worst shooter games on ps3.

noxeven2996d ago

I remember them saying it was supposed to contribute to eve and everyone was up in arms and that never happened and it just fell to the way side

Pongwater2996d ago

I'm not sure enough people ever played DUST 514 to say "everyone was up in arms", but there were in fact cross play battles between EVE and DUST.

It was a cool concept with some sizable flaws, but I'd be interested in a sequel that addressed some of those flaws. I thought I heard there was a PS4 version coming, but maybe that's my imagination.

tanukisuit2996d ago

It was definitely ambitious given the tech involved and how late into last gen we were. They tried though and cross gameplay is getting more relevant, so I think not all was lost...

Player-created DUST514 Trailer Calls For EVE:Phoenix

DUST514 players create EVE:Phoenix trailers as part of their #PortDUST514 campaign.

Since the announcement of the DUST514 sequel EVE:Legion by CCP Games at FanFest 2014, there has been an almost eerie silence about the project from the game’s creators. Domains and trademarks were registered, and later left expired, for the EVE:Legion brand, and the player base was left watching as no actual news or progress updates were given by CCP, even at the various player-gatherings or CCP’s own FanFest 2015.

The players of DUST514, both past and current, have rallied under a banner, #PortDUST514, led by Ripley Riley, and are using this hashtag on social media to highlight that there is still a desire for a sequel or a port of the game to a more recent platform than the Playstation 3.
Most recently, this has resulted in the players creating propaganda posters and “memes”, and even voiced trailers, for what they themselves have named EVE:Phoenix.

The player Pokey Dravon, with the help of several other players, created this trailer for the campaign.
