eGamer previews the upcoming next entry in Ubisoft's stellar franchise, Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag.
Prototype footage from several of Ubisoft's Assassin's Creed titles has leaked, revealing early stages of their development.
BY JASON MONROE: The very best pirate-themed video games that you should play instead of the disappointment that is Skull and Bones.
PoE: Deadfire, Unless you have a or PS5 or an SSD don't bother, loading times are insane. A minute and a half to go into a room to investigate a desk in an inn and then an additional 1 1/2 minutes to leave the room and then load to leave the inn???
And they never fixed it.
Ubisoft has just released Skull and Bones on PC and consoles. And, from the looks of it, the game wasn’t received well by some gamers. Not only that but it appears that Skull and Bones can be worse than Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, a game that came out a decade ago.
I wanted a Black Flag sequel so bad. It's still my favorite AC entry. The fact that they ignored everything that we loved about that game in this "spiritual successor" is making me enjoy watching this game crash and burn quite a bit. Either do it right or don't do it at all. (I understand the legal binding they got themselves into with the Singapore government to release this game at all costs)

11 years of development. Multiple restarts. All the while people have been saying they don't want some pirate game where you can't even get off your ship. 11 years of people telling Ubisoft all they want is a pirate game that's basically Black Flag without any of the assassin or animus stuff. Yet they still served up this trash that no one wanted, charged $70 for it, and had the balls to call it AAAA.
The Guillemot family honestly needs to be forced out of Ubisoft. They've doubled down on everything players don't like about their games, they want AI to create "rough drafts" of their stories rather than letting their writers do their jobs, and they literally do not give a shit what their playerbase actually wants. 5-6 years ago their stock was worth more than 4x what it's currently worth. The company is dying.
What has happened to developers? How can you possible make a worse looking game 11 years later? It’s honestly mind boggling.
Enough has been said about this game already. The gaming world shrugged when it was announced so many years ago, and instead of listening to all the criticisms from the community back then, Ubi just sailed on and kept making a game nobody really wanted. What a waste of money and effort.
I'd rather it show me how to be an Assassin......
Addressing your statements.
Potential Pitfalls:
"Assassin’s Creed III was largely polarized, partly due to its massive focus on extras that did not improve the game, and an overstuffed world without much substance."
First off, it's been addressed so many times as everyone talks about AC3 in every interview. This game is nothing at all like AC3. It's been fully rebuilt with much improvements. It runs seamless with no loading screens. It has 50 major Islands and 75 mini Islands all with something to discover. In fact, once you start opening the map, players are going to feel overwhelmed at all the icons that appear. The game is built to throw something at you all the time when you are en route to a location. So it's never just sailing in the water.
" It’s the fourth game in a series that arguably hasn’t been at the top of its game lately."
Everything has been addressed in interviews again. It being a numbered game means it's a whole new saga, a new story with a new assassin. They used part of the Far Cry 3 Dev team on this game. Everyone seemed to love Far Cry 3 ( I did a lot ). So the mix is something new and it's brought the best out in the game.
"The game may rely too heavily on naval combat."
What? A pirate game relying on their ship? As said in many interviews, players wanted and asked for more naval missions. As that was clearly the best part of AC3. That's all I talked about with other gamers online at the time was how awesome that was. Your ship is the second main character in AC4. That is your home and it can be upgraded with a ton of stuff and customized in appearance as well.
"Assassin’s Creed III suffered from numerous technical issues, such as reduced frame rate. Will Black Flag be a victim of it too?"
I've played the game. I found it to be very fluid and fun. With it being seamless now. The action never stops. No longer are you trapped in city environment. This world is very open, very realistic. The Next Gen versions are built to Next Gen spec and not simply some port. It's already confirmed to run 30fps in single player and 60fps in multi player ( which I've also played ).
"The modern segments could be vastly unsatisfying after the conclusion of Assassin’s Creed III."
New time, new era, new assassin. The only thing this game has in common with AC3 is the ships. Only again, now the ships can be used at any time to go anywhere. Where in AC3, it was just a missions based usage. Point A to Point B.
Maybe you should read this interview. This talks about how 8 studios and a 1000 dev's worked on this game to built it from the ground up. All the changes from past AC games and more so AC3. How much testing went in, etc, etc.

Is it okay to pirate this game or would that be breaking a pirate code of some sort? Never pirate from ye own or something...?
GREAT now kids will be going out and pirating ships around and plundering stuff....
What people don't realize is that AC was never really a legit assassination game.
The gameplay is so f***king slow, the combat takes hours, getting back on your feet after falling takes longer than a coma, and hitting with a sword feels like slo-mo when it's supposed to be swift.
There's no stealth either. Just platforming. Like climbing that opera house in front of hundreds of people, to "assassinate" someone who could have easily spotted you himself, in case the audience and the guards were all blind or retarded.
And instead of fixing that, we're pirates now?
Yeah let's just go back to prince of persia.
