'Wind Waker HD' Outsold By 'My Little Sister Can't Be This Cute: Happy End'

Hardcore Gamer: To be fair, we don't know exactly what this game is about, but judging from the images on the trophy list, we don't want to know. And there is no title with the words "happy end" and "cute little sister" that we would ever want to be anywhere near in the first place. This just sounds several different kinds of creepy.

So what? It's not even the same demographic. How many times have the "Just Dance" games been the top selling games month-after-month? Doesn't mean anything. People who buy casual crap like that usually ONLY buy those kinds of games (*ahem* COD). Real hardcore gamers spread their dollars across several REAL hardcore games.

Edit: I don't know anything about "my little sister" game. So forget what I said.

BosSSyndrome3844d ago

It's alright. You were correct even if it wasn't exactly relevant.

abzdine3844d ago

i was really interested in the wii u zelda bundle but in the end i didnt buy it because it's a DL copy of the game inside, not the retail version.
i have nothing against digital games but i've heard Nintendo handle them poorly and if the console breaks down i can say goodbye to the game.

Mr_Writer853844d ago

I find it funny that Nintendo fanboys thought this would do amazing and sell consoles.

As good as the game is if it isn't Mario its niche.

Look at Zelda, Metroid and other Nintendo IP's that don't have Mario they do less then 7million which whilst still impressive is only 7% of the install base which proves my point.

PopRocks3593844d ago

Refusing to acknowledge that no one has even talked about the digital release of the game which preceded the physical release by a solid two weeks and could have potentially taken a sizable chunk of the sales.

If you can say or provide any links that prove otherwise, I will gladly welcome a rebuttal.

Mr_Writer853844d ago

Poprocks.

You can't prove either way.

Prove to me that it sold more digital than physical.

ShinMaster3844d ago (Edited 3844d ago )

Unfortunately, games like Metroid don't get much love from Nintendo and so, the IP becomes weaker with the consumer.

And Zelda hasn't being doing that well since Twilight Princess, a game which I believe was going in a better direction overall despite some people complaining.
@ PopRocks359
Even Skyward Sword on the Wii which had the largest install base of any system at the time, sold less than other, newer and less "iconic" exclusive games on other consoles.
SS was a brand new game, not a remake. So do you honestly think the digital sales for Wind Waker HD are going to be any higher? And with a limited HDD space?
It just isn't as strong an IP as it used to.

MazzingerZ3844d ago

I would buy a Wii U if RETRO made a HD remake of Metroid: Prime and I mean it, after that announcement I would start looking inte the WiiU's games library but right now PS4 is the only next-gen console I'm getting day one

andrewer3844d ago

I'm a Nintendo fanboy and the only thing I thought was playing this game. Most Nintendo fans don't actually care too much about complicated stuff, we just want to play the games we love, that's all. So, this article is pretty pointless, and just flame for hits.

PopRocks3593844d ago

So in other words I'm correct, it's just as possible. In other words, don't write off the sales of this game. Especially since no one has taken digital sales or the bundles into account.

Frankly I don't care how many disagrees I get. My logic is a hell of a lot more sound than your speculation.

@ShinMaster

Majora's Mask was also on the N64 which had less than half of the Wii's install base and that sold about as much as Skyward Sword did. At that point the Wii was running out of steam anyway. This has little to do with a lack of consumer interest and has plenty to do with A) Wii U's lack of awareness and B) the fact that Wind Waker's initial release was digital and about three weeks prior to this report.

zippycup3844d ago

what Nintendo has fanboys i thought that was a Sony/Microsoft only tag

Yi-Long3844d ago

It might have sold at least least one console (to me)...

... IF they would just bundle the system with the game ON A DISC, instead of as a download.

Mr_Writer853844d ago (Edited 3844d ago )

@Poprocks

So you can't prove it sold more digital? Thought so.

So you are making stuff up. Therefore you lose all argument.

browngamer413844d ago

I don't know about fanboys and saving the system and whatnot but I do know that it's charting currently fourth in the uk and this is only disc sales and only for three days... http://www.nintendolife.com...

Magicite3844d ago

lol @ Mario, dumbest character in video games history.

_QQ_3843d ago

Pop Rocks can't prove it but neither can you silly guy, but you do realize people buying a wiiu to play WW HD probably purchased the Bundle which= online purchase... there is no evidence supporting either but the logical thing to assume is if WW was somewhat of a system seller, the systems it sold were the ones it came bundled free with?

Mr_Writer853843d ago (Edited 3843d ago )

Lopez

Well if it is a 'system seller' that can be proved if the WiiU's sales increase dramatically (by say 400%).

So because you can't prove digital sales were higher that means they must be?

Sounds like fanboy talk to me. When The Last of US and now GTA became the best selling digital titles Sony announced this.

No one knows what it sold digitally so therefore you can't use that as a point.
Which is why I dismissed his point as its invalid as there is no way to prove he is right or wrong.

Unless you have the numbers you can't deal in facts it's pure speculation. I'm debating the FACTS. And cold hard facts will always trounce arguments that are made up.

ShinMaster3843d ago

@ PopRocks359

You just proved my point. Zelda used to be a stronger IP. Majora's Mask sold more than Skyward Sword on the N64 which has a smaller install base than the Wii.
It doesn't matter if the Wii was running out of steam, it still had more than double the units sold than the N64. SS should have sold more. Where were the fans?

just because everyone plays cod does not mean its for casuals because before playing cod 4 was the best thing you could do before it was cool to hate it basicly what im saying is step off bitch :) from a True Hardcore gamer.

Neonridr3844d ago

nobody said it was for casuals, but CoD sells millions upon millions of games, but sales don't determine how GOOD a game actually is. Otherwise Justin Bieber is the greatest recording artist out there.. lol

Dmagic3844d ago

@Neonridr ohh please do name one shooter better than call of duty i will wait because it doesnt exist has it gotten kind of stale yes but its still top dog

halo has fallen off the last two have been horrible

gears of war was a one hit wonder with mediocre sequels judgment lol

bf is ok but no where near as good as cod

killzone ok never knocked me out my socks gameplay wise

nothing has challenged cod in a long while.

360ICE3844d ago

@Dmagic
I don't know. I find pretty much all the franchises you mentioned more enjoyable than CoD recently. The last time I found myself thinking CoD looked tempting was MW2.

ape0073843d ago

CoD 2,CoD 4 and mw 2 were absolutely amazing, BO1 was very good, the rest don't hold up to the legendary IW games

Very relevant nintendos top franchise is being outsold by a crappy noname barginb in game end of story nintendos ship is sinking sadly

DestinyHeroDoomlord3844d ago

Real hardcore gamers don't play "just dance"... we keep it real with Dance central 3

Tzuno3844d ago

just dance has a huge fun and replay value than others games, you judge wrong. i had so much fun with girls with just dance that you will never have with your serious games. :)

Magicite3844d ago

Lol, this is pathetic, no wonder Wii U is barely breathing.

Knushwood Butt3843d ago

Trying to defend Nintendo by calling out people that buy, 'casual crap'?!!

I think I've read it all. Next, we'll have people trying to claim that the digital sales are through the roof...

Edit:

Oh no.

I would expect this to happen. That series is really popular in Japan. Not to mention it just concluded not too long ago. It's still fresh in people's minds. Plus it's on PS3. I'm pretty sure there are a lot more PS3 units out there than Wii U's in Japan at the moment. There are a lot of factors to this.

Concertoine3844d ago

yeah it sold nearly 80,000 in US, which is pretty impressive, and thats probably not counting the bundles sold.
japan doesnt buy hd remakes anyway, and this game was never a big seller from the beginning.

Concertoine3844d ago

"The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD (WiiU) 78,079"

SilentNegotiator3844d ago

People are disagreeing with less than 80,000 being impressive, not that it would sell 80,000.

TooTall193843d ago

You said it SOLD 80,000 and then linked to an article that says it has 78,000 Pre-Orders. Do you really think nearly everyone that bought it has also pre-ordered it?

Concertoine3843d ago

@tootall
Oops, youre right. I guess that would mean it sold even more then, and thats still not counting the 2 weeks it was digital only.

abzdine3844d ago

yeah and if you look in % zelda might have sold more.

DEATHxTHExKIDx3845d ago (Edited 3845d ago )

HD remasters are not really big hits in japan. wiiU itself still has a small install base. And Im pretty sure the my little sister thing is popular in japan.

KonsoruMasuta3845d ago (Edited 3845d ago )

These guys don't even know anything about that game.

It is based on a VERY popular anime and novel series. They are judging it based on the name and description, which is wrong.

They know nothing of Japan!

Snookies123844d ago

Yeah, I agree. Judging something without even knowing what it's about is rather unprofessional.

wishingW3L3844d ago (Edited 3844d ago )

don't even try to defend this crap. The series has awful story and characters. The only reason is popular is because of the cute art and incest.

Most anime in Japan becomes popular just based on its art and nothing more, even the otaku themselves has admitted it on multiple polls on 2CH. But this trend really exploded like 5 years ago with animes like K-On and Lucky Star, and now like 80% of the new shows we get every season are just moe, mostly some shallow ecchi/moe.

NihonjinChick3844d ago

You must not watch that much anime. I can name tons of anime that don't rely on moe. True, moe is very popular but it's not needed for a series to be successful. Moe also does not guarantee the success of a series.

KonsoruMasuta3844d ago

I'm not defending anything. I don't even like this series, to tell you the truth. I like darker and grittier anime.

I was just pointing out that this is a very popular series and this game selling is no surprise.

Also, what's wrong with ecchi? I don't care for moe, but don't bash the ecchi man.

Juste_Belmont3844d ago

There should be a new genre in reaction to all the cutesy stuff that comes out. We need mature, tough guy stories in Japanese animation that appeal to the real men in all of us (even the ladies). They can call it "manime"!

Hicken3844d ago

Yeah, because 2ch represents the majority of anime watchers...

Where's the moe in Attack on Titan? Or Steins;Gate? Or Psycho-Pass? Or the Fate series? Or Gurren Lagann? Railgun and Index? SAO? Do I have to keep going?

Or will you break down the characters until you can glean something "moe" from them to try and make your point?

Yes, lots of crap gets made, the same as with movies, music and everything else. And some of the fluff winds up being popular. But taking a handful of examples and turning them into the rule rather than the exception is ignorant.

ExCest3844d ago

@Hicken

Well, Railgun and Index use A LOT of moe/fanservice. The focus isn't on the moe/fanservice but hell, Biribiri is ultimate moe.

The Fate series has a *tiny* bit of moe.

As for SAO, guess who's ranking pretty high in the Saimoe internationals?

Hicken3844d ago

Anybody from any series could, technically, rank in the Saimoe. Likewise, as I said, you can find something moe in anybody. Kuroki Tomoko isn't moe in the traditional sense, yet she's still become wildly popular. If someone points it out to me, I'll notice the moe in Index/Railgun, but the characters and story are all so much better than that.

The point is that he wanted to make it seem like, for years, moe has been the only thing any anime has focused on, and that's just not true.

Snookies123844d ago

You know this was a novel series first, right? It didn't get popular because of the art. There were very few pictures in the books. I read them a while back because they were actually pretty funny in a good way. You have every right to dislike the series. By all means. Though for what it's worth, I rather enjoyed the story/characters in the first few novels.

Baka-akaB3844d ago

Dont bother guys , his schtick is to go around in the anime sister site and claim everything new is mostly bad in anime

Where Are The Wind Waker And Twilight Princess Switch Remasters At?

Nintendo is a weird company. It has the most illustrious legacy of any single company in the medium and seldom chooses to take advantage of that fact. Countless classics are confined to their original platforms or only available through outdated retail models or a cheeky bit of emulation.

I want a Twilight Princess HD for the Switch I would day one it right now.

GoodGuy09574d ago

This holiday would've been great and it would've calmed my hunger for tears of the kingdom. It supposedly exists but why has it taken this long I wonder. Here's hoping it still releases before totk, maybe a trailer at the game awards and a shadow drop.

Double_O_Revan574d ago

I wouldn't hope too hard. The Metroid Prime Trilogy or even just Prime 1 remaster supposedly exists and has been complete for several years now. Either Nintendo are evil bastards, or everyone claiming it's existence is full of shit. Frankly, I believe both scenarios to be true.

Immagaiden574d ago

Wii U was such a great to play every 3D Zelda game and various 2D ones as well

It'd be nice if Switch caught up to that wealth of legacy content

Inverno574d ago

Booted up WW HD through emulation on Deck. Forgot how much I like that game, it's so charming with how expressive Link is. Ninty has taken too long.

ZeekQuattro573d ago

Nintendo wants the focus on tears of the kingdom. Though with these year Zelda old rumors I question if the collection ever existed for the Switch. Much like the Prime Trilogy that evolved into a remake or remaster of just Prime 1 in recent months.

If they're not important enough to be held on their own official storefront then they're not important enough to give your money to Nintendo.

Buy these, physically, used or simply emulate them.

This article comes off as nothing more than advertising games that Nintendo, themselves, don't care to offer you... buy now!

ocelot07782d ago

Wait hang on where all the outrage? I swear when Sony tried to do this with PS3 last year. There was outrage from all corners of the gaming universe.

Why does no one care Nintendo is doing it?

MadLad782d ago (Edited 782d ago )

There has been.
A lot of it.

Simply type in "3DS" in Google and tell me what you see.

ocelot07781d ago

Oh I have a fair few websites reporting on it. But where is the outcry on here? I remember their was 2-3 approved top voted articles when Sony announced they where closing the PS3 store. All slating them and not caring about customers.

I should of worded it better. Where is all the outrage on n4g?

MadLad781d ago (Edited 781d ago )

N4G is a fanboy site, mainly frequented by only Sony.
Microsoft is their direct competition, so you'll typically only see articles that are made to rile up those fanbases.

Nintendo does it's own thing, so they're rarely brought up, aside from their fans. The most you get is the same typical two or three posters claiming Nintendo is only for infants.

If you come to N4G for educated discourse and reasonable discussion, this isn't the place. Sad as it is.

pietro1212781d ago

It's lame that it is shutting down. Now I feel rushed buying all the rpgs I missed out on the system.

XxINFERNUSxX781d ago

You guys know that even archive.org has 3DS roms, and all other console roms. I'm downloading 846GB of 3DS roms and will add the best games to my soon to be soft modded New 3DS 😁. Might as well throw in DS and other emulators in there to. Guys this would be the best way to play and enjoy the 3DS. Just need to buy a bigger micro SD card and format it to FAT32, which you can if it's even 256GB or larger there are ways.
