Radeon HD 7990 review | Eurogamer

Meet the graphics card that comprehensively out-scores Nvidia's GTX Titan on virtually every benchmark or gaming frame-rate test you care to throw at it. The Radeon HD 7990 - codenamed Malta - achieves its colossal performance levels by combining two top-end "Tahiti" graphics chips onto one board, running them at speeds exceeding 1GHz, and combining them with ultra-fast 6.5GHz GDDR5 memory.

I've wanted to build a new gaming PC for a while, even though my laptop will play anything. I don't really feel comfortable with PC DRM so I may stick with the PS4 for a while, or build a PC for multiplayer games or rare titles in a few months.
By then the prices will go down anyway :]
That being said, this card it clearly a beast and I will be keeping an eye on it anyway.

Thanks for the sarcasm. /s

Best time to build a PC is now as the prices are about to drop on current high-end products. If you're going to build a high-end gaming PC, I suggest you get well ahead of the entry level game and put a future-proof build as the fore-front of your priorities. Just one spec suggestion: You should go for an octa-core CPU to really make your system future-proof. Games will sooner rather than later be optimized with 8-cores in mind because of the next-generation of consoles and that's going to benefit you greatly if you already have an 8-core CPU. An FX-8350 is a great option and extremely cheap as well.

Thanks and that is a good point about being optimized with 8 cores in mind. I will look into the FX-8350 as well since I haven't heard much about it.
I've been considering an HD 7770 for now then I will shop around in a few months.
Nice time to be a gamer!

I have the AMD FX-8350 its fantastic, don't think about it

Kleptic3852d ago

Personally, i would wait until december to make any decisions about a cpu...

The FX 8350 is a great cpu for the price, especially for certain games, like bf4, that will scale to 8 cores...

but the bad news is that cpu is on a dead socket...the AM3+ socket is no longer being used...

nearly all future AMD cpu's and apu's will be on FM2+...mother boards are already out, and a new lineup of steam roller core'd cpus/apus is coming before the end of the year...the steam roller cores are going to be significantly faster per core than the current piledriver line up...which is pretty important to some of us, as the FX 8350 is great when the program scales well...but its terrible on applications that only use a single core or something...which is very common still...

just saying...in december the new stuff will start showing up, and the current stuff will drop in price significantly...

Curious to know what what laptop you have. My laptop can play virtually anything but not at the highest of settings.

i7-3940XM Extreme Edition
680m
Raid 0 mSATA 128 x 2 w/ 750gig HDD
16g DDR 3

Spent almost $4,000 and it's not what I expected.

Volkama3852d ago

Why are people so hooked up on DRM? Intrusive DRM I get the objection, but people just seem to hate the concept on principle.

Surely the most important aspect of gaming for a gamer is playing games? Does it really matter if you get to own and/or sell them?

Maybe playing MMORPGs has just broken my values :|

So when are Nvidia going to beat it?

pixelsword3853d ago

Bu-bu-but teh Nvidia's Invicible!

Bolts3853d ago

Apparently no one bothered to read the article. The reviewer did not recommend this card because AMD Crossfire sucks. Same old AMD, competitive hardware crippled by second class software. I hope AMD changed their ways for nextgen but if they need Mantle to do it then I doubt it unless they can afford to pay off every devs to use their custom API.

iistuii3852d ago

Your right, they don't bother reading it.

But in the here and now, while we came out of the exercise disappointed that the sheer horsepower offered by the HD 7990 still doesn't translate into an overall gameplay experience that we can wholeheartedly recommend without reservations,

Benchmarks are fine, games micro stutter still.

WarThunder3853d ago (Edited 3853d ago )

Yea the AMD HD7990 cost 400 bucks less and 2x faster than teh Titan!

Nvidia cards are overpriced.

Eh? Shouldn't we be expecting the 8000 series by now?

TIER1xWOLFPACKx3853d ago (Edited 3853d ago )

Don't know if you have been living in a whole but, the 8000series has been out a while but it's only available to pc manufacturers like Dell and hp etc the consumers can't buy them. AMD next line of graphics cards are called R290X, R280X etc all the way down to 260 these are the most recent cards which become available later this month

EDIT: also the HD7990 has been out a few months now don't know why it took them so long to review it
