Minorities On Majorities – GTA V, Sexism, Racism, and the Controversy

Twinfinite writes: "Ever since GTA V released, there has been a weekly, if not daily, occurrence of people claiming to have found something new that offends them in the game. Other people jump on the hate bandwagon, and anybody who disagrees with them gets labeled as an evil person, apologist, or bigot. Then, on the other side of things, the Rockstar supporters take up arms at the perceived lack of a sense of humor and put blinders on to ignore everything else and smother all criticism under the “it’s satire” blanket. This entire roundtable spun out from Yami and myself accidentally stumbling upon another one of these pro/anti GTA V and Rockstar anger-fests on Twitter; so we gathered up an all-star panel from our staff and tried to get to the bottom of why people have such polarized views on GTA V."

As a minority (Latino)
I loved this game and love how Rockstar goes out and does their homework.

I live in Los Angeles.
They got the slang and tone of the city phenomenally.

a masterpiece.

Muazimus-Prime3848d ago

Agreed. For the most part they did a great job portraying minorities. I wish all other game companies did as good a job as Rockstar

The problem is that white liberals become malicious and violent if people with dark skin are portrayed in anything other than a positive, angelic light.

GTA V didn't bow to the white liberal intimidation tactics and didn't allow themselves to be forced to make only white people look bad. They also didn't make things too grounded in reality, by making non-whites as over represented in violent crime as they are in real life. They made everyone look as good and bad as each other, and gave the game a balance that neither turned white liberals into savage, aggressive, dribbling losers, nor did it anger those who are rational, realist and aren't oblivious to the real world.

That's not good enough for white liberals though, who hate the very notion that white people can be anything other than the devil, but thankfully it hasn't caused them to do anything more drastic than make whiny articles on N4G.

As a majority (Latino) I love just about everything in this game.

I am also a minority (African American), I really enjoyed the game as well. My favorite character has to be Michael, followed by Franklin, followed closely by Trevor.

Trevor would be my favorite character, but I honestly felt guilty about some of the things that you had to do as his character. Meanwhile I found myself really identifying with Michael's struggle to be happy in face of an impossible situation. I really didn't care for Franklin's annoying amount of times he uses the N word but I did appreciate his loyalty to Michael and him trying to overcome his circumstances, but that's just me. With that said, I enjoyed all of the characters and GTA5 was a great game and the mp is fun when it does work.

I said it before that I actually wish the cops would profile in GTA. Riding through the city with the black guy in a nice car, and get followed lol.

serratos273848d ago (Edited 3848d ago )

Oh great haha and then have yet another thing to add to what's "offensive" in GTA. These games have been out for years yet people are still shocked about what they see. Lol.

AbortMission3848d ago

Has anyone noticed the conservatist bias in the game?

Trevor makes fun of hippies, "liberals" and the game even jokes about lazy Union workers Lol. So much cynicism in the game

Grave3848d ago

Hippies should be made fun of.

There are numerous times conservative types are marked as well. There is no bias. This equally pokes fun at everyone and everything.

Pintheshadows3848d ago

In fairness you only seem to be seeing one side of the story considering things like Republican Space Rangers and Jock Cranley.

Grave3848d ago

^ And Weasel News , c'mon that's brilliant!

Gaming1013848d ago

They make sure to make fun of everyone in the game, not just one set group of people. If you listen to the radio stations they bash liberals and conservatives, they mock everyone equally pointing out the hypocrisy of certain groups and the retardeness of others. It's a level playing field, trust me.

BozoLoco3847d ago

Capitalism, Republicans and conservatives are also made fun of.

It's just funnier to make fun of liberals and hippies.

Ex-Rockstar Dev Finally Explains Why Small Planes Randomly Crashed in GTA San Andreas

Former Rockstar Games Technical Director Obbe Vermeij has finally revealed why some planes would randomly crash in GTA: San Andreas.

Profchaos13d ago

This fly by feature was on the cutting room floor due to the random plane crashes and it's one of those things I'm so thankful made it into the final version as these random fly by and crashes make the world seem more alive on the extremely limited PS2 hardware you needed everything you could possibly get in a open world to convey that feeling.

And accross hundreds of hours of gameplay I probably died around 3 times as a result of these fly by failures but I loved every time it happened

isarai13d ago (Edited 13d ago )

It made the world feel more human, and honestly kinda insane that even today with all these open world games, almost no one can capture that like R* even when compared to their ps2 games

Skuletor12d ago

Lol, I remember those. I vaguely remember dying from one crashing into my car once too.
