Opinion: The decay of Capcom

Destructoid - "This generation has been filled with publishers and developers undertaking anti-customer acts or just plain acting stupid. EA tried to shove online passes down our throats and tried shoehorning multiplayer into every game possible."

great article, because eveything said was true, capcom needs to wake up,i mean you raped DMC,killed RE,and neglect megman, and you continue to lose money, but other companies are taking your money because you refuseto make the games your consumers want, moighty no 9 is taking the megaman fans, bayonetta is taking the DMC fans, and the evil within could take the RE fans

dedicatedtogamers3849d ago

Yeah but where was this opinion when Destructoid was giving DmC a 9/10 and calling the CAPCOM-haters "crybabies"? Where was this opinion when Destructoid was giving RE Revelations an 8/10? Or MH3 Port on Wii-U a 9/10?

That's the problem with modern journalists. They go soft on any game from a big-name dev and hand out 8/10 and 9/10 scores like candy, but then they turn around and write "controversial" articles about how those same companies are decaying.

pr0t0typeknuckles3849d ago

hmm i forgot about that, cause your right destructoid was one of the main websites defending DmC and bashing the fans without listening to them, regardless though i do agree with the article, but you are right about how they love FLIP FLOPPING on controversial topics, but hey this is why i never trust reviews, cause they are full of crap

Blacktric3848d ago

"...RE Revelations an 8/10. Or MH3 Port on Wii-U a 9/10?"

Both of those are great games. Stop trying to s**t on good games to get your point across.

KonsoruMasuta3848d ago (Edited 3848d ago )

Resident Revelations wasn't that bad. It felt more like RE than 5 and 6. It wasn't perfect, but it wasn't horrible.

And it's not just the critics who like MH3 on WiiU. It has an 8.0 user score. It was a good game.

These games were good, that's why they gave them the scores. I like a lot of Capcom's games too.

But I can see as a whole, the company is starting to lose it.

gaffyh3848d ago

Capcom are by far the most stupid publisher/developer out there at the moment. They have got great IPs, yet are neglecting them because they are idiots e.g. Onimusha and Dino Crisis. Both of these could have been fantastic this gen, but instead we get a million Street Fighter-esque games, and the slow descent into shit that Resident Evil has become. It really boggles the mind. Why make Monster Hunter for the Wii U, and not a proper version of the game for PS3? They could have done it years ago, but they were just too stupid.

THQ shouldn't have gone out of business, it should have Capcom and then maybe there IPs could be given some justice in other developers hands, at least THQ was trying to fix themselves, and gave us a great IP, Darksiders.

/rant

Really though, Capcom sort yourselves out.

dedicatedtogamers3848d ago

@ Blacktric and Konsoru

You've missed my point. What I'm saying is that Destructoid has showered praise on several of CAPCOM's biggest games over the last few years, so where was this opinion back then? Where were the statements of "yep, CAPCOM is decaying" when fans were complaining about New Dante in DmC? Oh, wait. Instead, Destructoid was calling those people "haters" and "crybabies".

Juste_Belmont3848d ago

True, we should never forget the negativity that surrounded Nier, only for the game to later be heralded as an "underrated gem". Well, guess who underrated it?

It doesn't take a genius to know that Capcom hasn't been making very good decisions lately, but it does seem sort of hypocritical for "game journalists" to have such a Jekyll/Hyde mentality in terms of reporting on it.

no noes cares about megaman for the last time

But really whoever is the ceo of capcom is an idiot, all he needs to do is bring monster hunter to the vita, and they will come, also bring monster hunter to good consoles like ps4 and xbone.

Change devil may cry back

KonsoruMasuta3848d ago

I doubt Mighty No. 9 would have raised 4 million if nobody cared about Megaman. That money could have easily been Capcom's.

Blacktric3848d ago (Edited 3848d ago )

" all he needs to do is bring monster hunter to the vita"

You mean the console that has less lifetime sales in Japan than Monster Hunter 4's in its first week? That seems like such a smart move.

Nobody cares about graphics on a Monster Hunter title. Fans play it because of the ever evolving gameplay and new monster types. Not because they want to do a pissing contest on the internet regarding which version looks better.

gaffyh3848d ago

@Blactric - A new MH on Vita would have sold a ton of Vita consoles, it wouldn't have mattered if it has low lifetime sales right now.

SharnOfTheDEAD3848d ago

Remember the good old days when Capcom was one of the biggest companies around, bringing games out like Dino Crisis, Onimusha, Devil May cry and of course the original Resident Evil games before they turned into the games they are now. It's really sad to see whats happened and how their games have deteriorated, I mean look at Lost Planet 3... They should return to their roots, bring out a new Onimusha and Dino Crisis would be a great start.

Avengingkinght923848d ago

Bayonetta is taking all the dmc fans? Your kidding right? Bayonetta 2 lost half its fan base when it became Wii U exclusive. As for the evil within, good looking game by the way. But not sure if every RE fan will jump ship. As for megaman, don't care never really liked it.

It wasn't a bad game, people just didn't want them to change it in the first place, fans of the series wanted them to continue as the real dante

Hanso3848d ago

lol wtf are you talking about?
speak for yourself.

DmC had a crapton of bad things regarding gameplay
-Styles gone
-no lock on
-Devil Trigger push to win
-only 30 fps on consoles
-weak bosses. Credo from DMC4 shits all over DmC
-Color coded enemies

ect
ect

DMC 3 and 4 are still miles ahead.

KonsoruMasuta3848d ago

Don't forget the horrible dialog and storey telling.

It's like the humor was written by a twelve year old. And they butchered the story.

Blacktric3848d ago

Hey hey hey, watch your mouth. The dialogue in DmC was amazing and was truly Shaekspearean. I mean who could forget such deep lines like; "And I've got a bigger d**k".

Knushwood Butt3848d ago

I think NT make ios games now.

kratos_TheGoat3848d ago

scumcom deserve the hate for dlc lock, multiple same game with a upgrade which was a dull. overprice characters, costume, ending.n obody is the blame but scamcom who decided to go after your money by releasing games that is rush, wack, & disappointing title which everybody fell in love with in nintendo and sony era.

johny53848d ago (Edited 3848d ago )

They should have stuck with the style from E3 2005 target video which was supposed to be the real Devil May Cry 4.

Even if that target render wasn't real gameplay with the next generation of consoles we have the technology to push graphics like that and or better! A matter a fact almost all the target renders from last gen we can produce with todays technology!

They need to bring the original art style back and get ride of the Hayden Christensen wannabe! Original voice actor too!

Capcom Is 'Aware' of Dragon's Dogma 2 Frame Rate Issues on PC

Responding to a query about frame rate problems from IGN, Capcom said in a statement that performance issues on PC may be linked to the heavy amount of CPU demanded from NPCs in the game.

"In Dragon's Dogma 2, a large amount of CPU usage is allocated to each character and dynamically calculates the impact of their physical presence in various environments. In certain situations where numerous characters appear simultaneously, the CPU usage can be very high and may affect the frame rate," a Capcom representative told IGN. "We are aware that in such situations, settings that reduce GPU load may currently have a limited effect; however, we are looking into ways to improve performance in the future."

just_looken30d ago

What a load of bull there blaming the npc load for there poor performance? the new hitman games has way more going on beyond that they are saying any pc cpu is not powerful enough?

In the article it is also stated a ign reviewr got motion sickness playing ps5/pc version but still enjoyed it? like wow if that was me i would knock it down alot and asked for a patch asap.

So those about to play thank denuvo get a barf bucket if your on pc play 720p because like cites skyline its going to be a unoptimized cpu mess.

Man those on series s/steam deck/rog ally rip :(

just_looken30d ago (Edited 30d ago )

Just putting up a pcgamer review

"its janky has bugs poor performance need lots of updates 89/100"

Gameing bolt unstable frame rate rate below 30fps but that is great??????

Man have we dropped that quality bar for acceptable performance/optimization

andy8529d ago (Edited 29d ago )

Am I hearing that right, that reviewer with a 4090 is getting drops into the 20s when there's several NPC on screen. Sorry but there's zero excuse for that. BG3 had hundreds at a time on screen and that's a pretty game. What an absolute piss poor engine

just_looken29d ago

@andy

Yes the is correct but every review is giving it a past and or saying that its great that the performance is like the first ps3/xbox one game.

2012 20-30fps 2024 20-30fps dragons dogma keeping things the same reviewers like that apparently

just_looken29d ago

IGN put up a video showing the 4090 struggling aswell as console performance all versions are like the first game with fps issues.Remember dlss 3.0 can almost double your fps like that cyber punk video so without dlss on your looking at 30fps on the most powerful gpu that is out right now.

Cacabunga29d ago

Capcom where is Deep Down???

Tapani29d ago

@andy85 At launch BG3 dropped to under 30fps at the final chapter on 4090. I played the game at launch and had that experience. And that was with a 5800X3D. Everything watercooled and fine-tuned CPU/GPU and memory at 32GB with good timings, and a fast SSD etc.

just_looken29d ago

@tapani

I am sorry are we comparing a AA game with a small budget with alot going on 24/7 to a AAA game funded buy the billion dollar capcom?

You are right yes but that was patched and that team loves there community but if the first dogma said anything we should expect a patch or 2 but that is it.

andy8529d ago

@Tapani indeed but that was hundreds of NPCs. Not a few. It's piss poor

lellkay29d ago

Can they be aware of the need for 60fps on consoles plz

just_looken29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

Oh no kidding that "pro" model better have a 60fps mode.

But that ps5 pro PSSR will no doubt be a hold back as i see very few devs make a fsr/dlss/pssr game like really sony why did you spend millions to make upscale tech on the 6800 when amd already has fsr 3.0 just sitting there.

I remember the ps4 pro patches that dwindle over time yes new games had the modes but they were not standard and that was without the base ps4 using another upscale tech.

Edit:

In tldr form devs now make fsr upscale for ps5/xbox PSSR upscale tech on ps5 pro game then dlss/fsr upscale tech pc version and we also have intels xess just insane workload

Eonjay29d ago

'Oh no kidding that "pro" model better have a 60fps mode.'

Perhaps but only if Capcom addresses the issues first. substantially more powerful hardware is struggling.

Furesis29d ago

I mean it's not helping but this is something more than that. Plenty of games with denuvo that work fine

just_looken29d ago

That could be also taxing for sure sense the ps5 also supports that dreadful drm

This is also running off the RE engine remember those re vids with the denuvo drm on/off

MrDead29d ago (Edited 29d ago )

Project Zomboid a simple looking isometric game has a similar problem as the Zombies are CPU heavy. If this is the issue GPU tweeks won't do anything, you need less calculations per NPC or more static NPCs

SPEAKxTHExTRUTH29d ago

Well that’s just great…looks like I’ll be holding off on buying this on PC until it’s fixed. If I wanted low frame rates I’d just buy it in console smh…

Well there is a lot of laid off talent out there. Very smart of them to target that. Plus if it’s in Japan, that’s a great place to live.

"Won't someone think of the shareholders!!" wwwaaaahhh

Eonjay43d ago

It funny with this news, their stock price took a small hit. But you know what... thats like too damn bad. We have to stop letting shareholders run the industry into the ground.

FinalFantasyFanatic42d ago

Seriously, you have to spend money to make money, I think some companies and share holders forget that, If you don't pay enough, you can't attract the best talent, or possibly even enough staff for the company to function properly.

Eonjay43d ago

I really approve of Capcom for doing this and will show my appreciation by supporting them. There are a few Capcom games I need to get... and this includes Dragon's Dogma 2. Support companies that support the people working in the industry over shareholders! REMEMBER: Shareholder's don't make games!

Darkegg42d ago

25% sounds like a lot, but it's from $1,560 to $2000 per month. That's $24,000 a year. Unless u became a monk, that is below poverty line.
