Retro Recap: Destruction Derby 2

Tom Skidmore of TheKoalition writes:
A game that I didn’t pay much attention to for a few years, that is until one fateful sick day when my Mom had forgotten to bring me all my good games. A new love was born, a love of smashing cars and causing, yep you guessed it, destruction! This week’s Retro Recap focuses on the classic smash ‘n’ racer known as Destruction Derby 2!

Absolutely loved this! Didn't even do the races.. just the demolition derby. The frame rate when everyone starts off and all goes on the ramp in the middle goes crazy Hahaha

Such a great feeling winning your first race or just finishing a race, damn that game was hard haha. So many memories with this game. ..

Perhaps this is a game that can make a comeback, but I highly doubt it will. DriveClub and Gran Turismo are all the only games Sony are focused on right now.

dont forget that game bugbear is working on its based around destructable cars i know that isnt an exclusive but still awesome.

This was a great game years ago. It was fun being able to just smash up cars. I've wanted a reboot / sequel for years.

This and Driver 2 survival mode with infinite damage are my favorite games for car vs car action.

Test Drive Eve of Destruction (PS2;XBOX)was also a great game for car vs car action.

Memorable Music in Gaming #27

Chalgyr's Game Room writes:

We haven't had a lot of music articles of late, so we thought we would make it up with a really nice mix of songs from five different platforms. Some are about as classic as consoles get (NES anyone?) while another is from last generation.

DuckTales (NES) - The Moon

Considered by a-great many to be the finest video game chiptune music ever composed, The Moon is also the greatest music associated with the DuckTales name - beside the cartoon intro song, of course. Brimming with child-like excitement and jubilant energy, one cannot help but visualize glittering gold, sparkling stars, and a barrage of fireworks with all the colors of the world

Modders trying to recreate Destruction Derby 2 in Wreckfest

A team of modders (The Very End, Harmalarm, Mazay and STRmods) is currently working on recreating the classic Destruction Derby 2 game in Wreckfest. Wreckfest is the spiritual successor to the FlatOut series, which was the spiritual successor to the Destruction Derby series. So yeap, we went a full circle.

PlayStation: From A to Z – The Letter “D”

Ken McKown writes: The From A to Z series lets our editors go back and take a look at games from past generations that are classics, overlooked gems, or just titles they remember fondly. The idea behind this is to pick five games from each letter of the alphabet, once a week to showcase. This delivers 26 weeks and 130 games to talk about. Hopefully it sparks some conversation, and of course plenty of memories.

Our first series will focus on Sony’s first entry into the console business, the PlayStation.

Let’s continue with the letter “D”.

i remember i was obsessed with car damage for as long as i can remember (even use to smash up my Matchbox with a hammer. and yes, i still do). and the first time i saw that hood crumple up, heard the sound of the impact and saw debris fly everywhere, i was amazed and hooked by how realistic it seemed. it was good for the GBA too; that was a dream come true before GTA for PSP was even a thought.

Crummybear3296d ago

This is such an awesome idea! I forgot all about the Die Hard game. I also played the hell out of Destruction Derby 2. Those old car physics were awesome. You forgot one game that NEEDS to be on this list though.....DRIVER!

Playstation was my favorite system for its first two generations and man, what an awesome exclusive library. Spyro, Castlevania, Crash, what a fun system.
