Mighty No.9: The rebirth of a classic.

Mighty No.9 (touted as the spiritual successor to Megaman) is the first project currently in development by indie videogame company "Comcept" founded by the legendary and highly influential videogame developer "Keiji Inafune" best known for having created such popular titles as Megaman, Megaman X, Onimusha, Dead Rising and has also had his hand in many other popular games to come out of Capcom.

Following Inafune-san's break away from Capcom in October 2010, shortly after the cancellation of Megaman Legends 3 which led to a great many fans being disappointed, he set about founding his own videogame development company in order to make sure that his future projects would not suffer the same fate. Eventually gaining support from the likes of "Naoya Tomita" who helped in the development of the original Megaman game as well as Megaman 2, 5, 6 and Megaman Legends, "Kimo.Kimo" a talented character designer known for his unique and memorable characters in such popular titles as Street Fighter Alpha 3, Darkstalkers, Red Earth and The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap, as well as Manami Matsui, who was responsible for bringing us the entire original Megaman soundtrack, and has contributed to other popular games such as Megaman 10, shovel knight and many more. These are just a small handful of the talent that has assembled together to help contribute to the development of Mighty No.9.

In the hope of making the companies first project a success they have turned to the popular crowdfunding website Kickstarter, and as of today they are mere hours away from successfully kickstarting their project into the full on development stage with a whopping Kickstarter backing of $3,412,319 and rising. They have also plowed through the majority of their stretch goals leading to a multitude of extra content being added to the final product, including new stages, a bonus: Boss rush mode and a making of documentary to name a few, Mighty No.9 will also be getting current gen console ports, next gen ports to the PS4 and Xbox One and Wii U, and to the delight of many (including myself) Mighty No.9 will now also be getting ported to the PS-Vita and Nintendo 3DS!. Congratulations everyone who contributed to the push.

I bring this news to your attention not only in hopes of helping the project gain further backing, but also because I believe the glowing success of Comcept's Mighty No.9 kickstarter project is testament to the popularity and appeal of a genre that frankly many in the mainstream (Capcom most notably) have seemingly decided is no longer worth developing for. So I urge you, fans of Megaman, fans of Keiji Inafune, heck even those of you who have yet to experience or appreciate the talent that any of these videogame veterans have to offer, back this project not only so that Mighty No.9 may be a success but also to support a new talented development company, one which is aiming to not only offer us a new take on a popular genre many of us know and love, but who are devoted to innovation, and who are striving to bring us the best game they can with the help of fan input.

Let's all do our best to help make Mighty No.9 a success!

Thanks for reading my blog, if you are interested in backing Mighty No.9 then click on this link to head over to the Mighty No.9 Kickstarter page http://www.kickstarter.com/... Also you can check out the vid below to see the Mighty No.9 Kickstarter pitch.

They currently have eight hours to go with sixty thousand backers and almost three and a half million dollars to work with. The amount of support this project has is simply incredible. I am so glad that the community has pulled together to help Inafune with his project. I can't wait to see how it will turn out.

zerocrossing3857d ago

It' one of the most successful Kickstarter projects to date, or so I heard :) Same here, I've been a huge fan of Megaman since the 8 bit era so I can't wait to see how Mighty No.9 turns out.

HonestDragon3857d ago

No kidding it's a success. An hour and half left and we are at almost four million dollars with almost sixty-five thousand backers. It's a big message to developers and publishers that gamers still want games like this. I'm very excited to see the update video for when this is all over.

Mighty No.9 just broke through it's final stretch goal! Over $4,000,000 and 67,226 backers, those publishers can't afford not to take notice of this.

HonestDragon3856d ago

Good grief, that's incredible! They hit every stretch goal they had. That's all kinds of amazing.

Great blog.
I hope this gives a reality check not only Capcom, but the entire Japanese gaming industry.
As it is there are already two things that concept have done that so many other Japanese devs have failed to do:
Localize the game either straight off the bat, or less then a year after.
And not to make games with massive potential on a smartphone.

If you put effort in and don't get your fanbase angry, even with a 2D then you could be swimming in money. The console market in Japan was pretty damn good before and I hope this changes at least a few companies.

Now as for Mighty No.9, I can't wait to see how the final game looks and plays. I really want to see the different transformations as well.

Thanks and well said.

I only hope this game is a huge success and helps influences other developers to create similar projects where they develop what they want rather than what they assume will be a guaranteed huge hit.

It's hard to say it like that, since publishers also have some creative control over an IP.

I was told from a friend when Kamiya was originally going to make Viewtiful Joe 3 Capcom's higher up's basically told him he should make the games story be like the Scary Movie series. His response was pretty much, "Just shut the hell up and let me make the god damn game."

Juste_Belmont3857d ago

I hope so too, but I'm not sure if Capcom will get that message. It may not be Mega Man Legends 3, but Keiji Inafune is proving that there are still a lot of Mega Man fans out there who are willing to spend money on a new game, even if it's not officially Mega Man.

My only regret is not giving enough money for a custom numbered T-shirt, but I'm glad I was able to contribute to this historic event. Congrats everyone, for successfully funding this awesome project.

I myself backed this project as well as Project Eternity and Torment: Tides of Numenera. I always did respect Inafune for always sticking to his guns.

I seriously think this might end up being a great way for indie game companies to get their company going. I'm all more for the idea of IP's belonging to their respected creators rather than to a publisher (Kamiya seems to be in this mindset as well, which is why Bayonetta belongs to Platinum rather than Sega).

Either way long story short as a fan of the classic Megaman games I am highly looking forward to this game.

I personally do remember Infogrames in the years prior to merger. They really did have a portfolio that stuck out and I enjoyed. I wonder what value they see in reviving it now though?

PlayStation auto-play patent shows a feature to skip grindy sections of games

Sony is apparently experimenting with an AI tool that will play the game for you when you are grinding away. A PlayStation patent for “auto-play” mode would simulate your gameplay style in certain environments and apply them to skip that section completely. This technology would likely be built directly into the cloud-based PlayStation Network and be a new feature that subscribers would have access to.

Hah! Either will never happen or publishers will charge you to use this AI. This concept would only exacerbate the problem we already have with GaaS.

gold_drake6h ago

doesnt that concept already exist tho?

buy dlc to get a ahead in games? money, weapon and exp dlc come to mind but yeh. one more thing for them.to potentially charge for.

Christopher5h ago

Usually, for GaaS/Seasonal games, you'll have to perform actions to earn specific in-game currency to buy things for events. Then they sell the currency with real cash or a third-currency to then buy the in-game currency items (it's honestly truly bloated to hide that they're cheating you out of money). With this, they'll just give you items if you do something 50 times or the like and then charge you to have the game play it for you. It's better, right? No currency shenanigans, just play the game and we reward you! But, the truth is they'll inflate the amount of times you have to play through content just to get the same thing.

jambola2h ago

Why?
Why not just remove the Grindy part?

I hope it's not an excuse to make them worse, but optional if you pay

Eonjay2h ago

This IGN blogger mode will allow 'reviewers' to play games like rest of us.
I will never forget watching GamingBolts spoiler video for Horizon FW and realizing they never played it. Made me wonder if they play games at all.

Skuletor1h ago

As if most modern games don't hold your hand enough already.

Profchaos1h ago

Reminds me of those 24 hours races in gran Turismo 4 having your PlayStation play for you.

But realistically if you have to use any of these for Grundy games there's a bigger underlying problem of the game not respecting your time in the first place.

Grind for game length is a real problem in my view
