Rockstar Updates Agent Trademark... For PS4?

Gaming Blend "The trademark has been updated as recent as September 10th for a publication review. That means that while Rockstar had everyone busy clamoring over Grand Theft V and all the leaked code and XML config files that came with it, they were also busy securing trademark updates and prepping to finalize logos and whatnot."

Agent and Half Life 3 will release soon. /s

Rockstar better update Agent trademark for PS5 and PS6.

TesMgsFan3851d ago

What are you saying are you dumb or something ??

zeee3851d ago

It's probably gone multiplate and will release on next-gen consoles.

Edito3851d ago

His not dumb his just not ignoring history FF Versus took more that 6 yrs, agent is taking even more and i don't believe it will be out this gen if so it will be a multiplat game...

ZodTheRipper3851d ago

PS4 exclusive announcement would be the biggest thing that could happen with Agent.

Gaming1013851d ago

There's no reason for it to go multiplatform if Sony bought the rights you idiots. It's just in development turmoil as is the case with a ton of games these days. It would be pointless to release on PS3 unless they could finish it sometime next year, because by that point PS4 will have completely taken over people's attention span.

strifeblade3850d ago

@gaming101

dont call these people idiots. Look at la noire- originally ps3 exclusive and then what happened. Seems that this game may no longer be published by sony. Ask yourself when was the last time sony paid a third party to make a big exclusive? Yeah mgs4 and even that game was not secured by sony but rather technical limitations of xbox would not allow it plus kojima loved playstation but all that is changed now :) Have you not seen that sony does not pay third parties for exclusives\? they have plenty of in house studios so why should they- (thats all fanboys here brag about). Msoft is more likely than sony to secure third party exclusivesas we have seen.

I mean its rockstar who updated the trademark not sony. Now who is an idiot?

Blaze9293850d ago (Edited 3850d ago )

@Gaming101

"Sony bought the rights you idiots."

You end with idiots, for a statement that isn't even slightly true...lol. Why would Take-Two interactive, yet alone Rockstar, give up an IP? Silly man, Sony doesn't own Agent and it'll likely be multiplatform.

Will probably just be an updated logo.

Seriously though, I just want to see the game to know if the hype is justified. Until then, I'll keep assuming it is, as Rockstar rarely disappoints.

PlayStation_43851d ago

assuming it comes out it'll likely be multiplat

-Foxtrot3851d ago

Not really...Rockstar still owe Sony something.

ALLWRONG3851d ago

Why does Rockstar owe Sony? Because you think they do?

Thehyph3851d ago

Because L.A. Noire was supposed to be exclusive.

It's been said before.

It's probably in writing somewhere that Rockstar owes Sony an exclusive that they've already paid for.

ALLWRONG3851d ago

So... like I said because you "think" they do. Feel entitled much?

FamilyGuy3851d ago (Edited 3851d ago )

@ Foxtrot

Why does Rockstar owe Sony anything, where does this idea come from?
What makes you think they couldn't just buy their way out of any exclusive deal anyway, if they haven't done so already?
Maybe that deal fell apart and that's why Agent has been in limbo for so long.

Hopefully the game just comes out at all. Would make a nice next gen intro for R*

mike32UK3851d ago

@ALLWRONG it's pretty common knowledge that Sony helped R* to fund LA Noire, which ended up multiplat meaning that as part of the deal they had Agent would be PlayStation exclusive

porkChop3851d ago

@ALLWRONG

Sony poured over $20M into LA Noire before Rockstar took over the game and made it multiplat. That's why Rockstar owes Sony. Rockstar announced an untitled exclusive for PS3 which was apparently a zombie game, but that was canceled. Then they moved on to Agent as a PS3 exclusive. You can ignore the facts all you want, but that won't change anything. Deal with it.

ALLWRONG3851d ago (Edited 3851d ago )

MS helped fund the dlc for GTA IV (50m) and that went multiplat. Yet no one cried about how Rockstar owed MS. Sony also had exclusive rights to Rockstar games for the PS2 while MS had to wait. So by using your logic, Rockstar owes MS. Feeling entitled to everything must be a Sony fanboy thing, because no one else does it. Sony paying money into LA Noire doesn't mean much now does it?

Now what?

FamilyGuy3851d ago (Edited 3851d ago )

MS (stupidly) paid for timed exclusivity, that was their choice. Rock* doesn't owe MS anything.

As far as this 20Mil thing for L.A. Noire, I'm pretty sure Rock* could pay that back and probably did pay it back long ago. Maybe they paid it back by having all these PS3 focused GTA 5 commercials? Unless Sony comes out saying that Rock* owes them there's no reason to believe any deal still exist.

Rock* makes too much money being multiplaform to make an exclusive game. As an example: GTA V cost 265 million to make, if it was only released on PS3 it would've made 600-700$ million instead of the 1.2$ billion or so it's currently at. The 265 million doesn't out way the 500 million extra gained by being multiplatform.

*Special Logical thinking Note* I say 600-700$ mill because (even though it sold more on 360 than PS3) many people own both PS3 and 360 and chose to buy it on 360. Had they not had a choice more copies would have sold on PS3 than what have currently sold.

@ALLWRONG

You sound like a sour little prick. Report me, but you do.

ricochetmg3851d ago

You guys are such trolls with the multi platform comments...

Pintheshadows3850d ago

I thought this was common knowledge.

Sony invested very heavily in LA Noire (it was a PS3 exclusive to be published by them orignally) and they handed it to R* in good faith that they would pay them back, not with cash, but with an exclusive game.

That deal is seemingly still in place and I remember Jack Tretton talking about a folder containing potential games and Sony picked Agent as they liked the concept about 6 years ago.

This isn't like Microsoft paying stupidly ott money to keep DLC exclusive. That poor choice is on MS and R* must of been laughing all the way to the bank. I'm still amazed that some on here are so misinformed.

MrBeatdown3850d ago

@ALLWRONG

You live up to your name.

"So by using your logic, Rockstar owes MS."

Rockstar owing MS? What a crazy, idea...

Oh wait... Rockstar DID owe MS...

http://www.edge-online.com/...

BlackTar1873850d ago

Allworng,

You do realize whether its changed or not at this point is another thing entirely since you're assuming that's the case without anything in the form of a sniff for your argument. At least even if not true anymore or not the opposite of what your saying is backed upped on paper right? You do also understand the difference between the Sony funding of LA Noire and the MS paying for timed exclusive GTA 4 comment right? I mean is this really that hard to understand?

Deadpoolio3850d ago

Uh doubt it unless Rockstar is going to make them a completely different exclusive game since they still owe Sony a game for them investing in L.A. Noire....Although maybe it will be that exclusive PS4 version of GTA5 that people keep going on about....

XabiDaChosenOne3850d ago

@Allwrong and JasonKCK
Microsoft did not fund the DLC genius, they paid 50 million for timed exclusivity. The dlc was a timed exclusive therefore rockstars "debt" to Microsoft is payed....time for you guys to pay attention.

JasonKCK3850d ago (Edited 3850d ago )

Your arguments are so contradictory they would fit right at home in the bible. Amazing.

Lykon3850d ago

does it matter if it's multiplat? I'm sure it will be a good game either way. Maybe slightly better FR or textures or something on PS4. I'm not going to cry if it's multiplat. I'm a sony fan boy and used to get really emotional over things like this, but not anymore. However it would be really cool if it was ps4 exclusive. I still enjoy pain for M$

Pekka3850d ago

I think Rockstar owes absolutely nothing to Sony anymore. Anyway, that $20M is tiny amount compared to possible losses if they only release it on PS4. Unless, of course, Agent is a huge flop. For example, GTA5 would have probably made at least $500M less money if were released exclusively on PS3 or 360. So, $20M doesn't motivate anything, it is currently so tiny amount in game business.

I believe that Agent will be released on other consoles too, just maybe few months after PS4. $20M is barely enough to secure timed exclusive, even for Agent. For GTA, even $100M wouldn't be enough to get exclusivity (you might get some smaller exclusive DLC but nothing major). Actually, just having PS3 exclusive ads would cost more than $20M for Sony in case of GTA.

You also have to remember that game business is just business. Companies only do business arrangements to get more money or to lose less money. Companies are never "friends" or "enemies" with each other (Sony makes Windows laptops and have a lot of other deals with MS too) and don't owe anything to each other unless they have made a deal. If they haven't made deal on paper, deal doesn't exist. In this, it seems that deal doesn't exist because in that case LA Noire would have already been exclusive. There is no reason to believe that deal would apply to some other game.

its in development we will hear about it when RS are ready plain and simple, whether its exclusive or not i loved the idea of what agent could be

Blaze9293850d ago

Didn't GTAV sell more copies on Xbox 360? And people think Take-Two Interactive will happily ignore that userbase as a source of income? okay.

Not even sony knows what is going on with Agent. They only talked about it once and never again lol. I'm sure if it was still exclusive, they would still be talking about it. Until that happens, there's no reason to think Agent is still a Playstation exclusive lol.

But hey, people thought that about Final Fantasy 13 vs...and Kingdom Heats 3. All because it "started" out exclusive.

And just like LA Noire, what makes you all think Take-Two won't make this game multiplatform as well and just "give" Sony yet ANOTHER exclusive? Rockstar are just the developers, Take-Two are the money talkers.

And seriously, can someone link just ONE link to where Sony or Take-Two has said something about this "we owe them a game" or "Rockstar owes us"?

..because i can't find any. ill wait

DigitalRaptor3850d ago (Edited 3850d ago )

For just a moment, pretend that Microsoft isn't the only player in the ballpark that is willing to secure exclusive content for its consumers.

For instance, the 21 publishers that have signed deals for exclusive content for Sony. Rockstar is one of these publishers. http://www.vg247.com/2013/0... And these deals, like most of Sony's acquired third-party content, seems to actually be exclusive, not timed. So from this, it's not actually that difficult to imagine the same outcome here.

GTA V sold roughly 200k more on the 360 than PS3. Though, GTA V is a secured juggernaut. The security of a new IP even from Rockstar is not guaranteed to sell more on one console over the other, or even be a HUGE hit.

You have to question many things. Why was Agent exclusive to the PS3 in the first place? Where did this all come from? Why was Agent not proposed for 360 or PC? Why is that, if not a deal between Sony and Rockstar?

FunkMacNasty3850d ago (Edited 3850d ago )

I Hope so! While everyone here wants to argue about whether AGent is (or should be) exclusive, I'll simply state that I JUST WANT TO PLAY IT!!!! I don't care about which console its on or if it's multiplat, or whatever, I just wnat to get my hands on it!

Just the thought of an open world 60's Spy thriller dreamed up and created by arguably the best videogame developer in business this generation makes my panties a bit wet..Can you imagine? I bet it would be like a more suave GTA with gadgets and gizmo's and multiple ways to complete missions.

I don't think R* owes Sony anything, honestly. Money could have been traded back, deals could have been broken. Hands could have been shook and they could have went their separate ways.

If Agent is still a PS4 exclusive then right on for that. But at this point in development limbo I seriously doubt it will be.

reko3851d ago

@xbox

here we go again folks.. trolling...

LOL!

ZHZ903851d ago (Edited 3851d ago )

Do you mean "We are going to get trolled again by R*?" or do you mean "You would like to have this game on X1."?

If you mean the 1st choice well I hope not and they announce a realse date as soon as possible and show us a gameplay.
If it's the 2nd choice well have you even seen a gameplay in action? What if it is bad?
And like I told you before what if Sony still owns R* because Sony also funded LA Nore. I remember you told me that maybe R* gave Sony's money back but what if not?

Don't give me FF Versus XIII(aka FFXV) excuse because Sony didn't funded FFXV at all that's why SE didn't had any problem at all to make FFXV multiplat but you see Deep Down being exclusive to PS4 because Sony funded it or just like DR3 is X1 exclusive because MS funded it.

-Foxtrot3851d ago

The only way Rockstar don't owe Sony something (WHICH THEY DO) is if Rockstar gave Sony the money back they spent on L.A Noires development.

It's a deal...you stick to it.

FamilyGuy3851d ago

R* has a lot of money and with GTAVs recent release just got a ton more. They probably gave that money back long ago and if they didn't they surely would by now.

Stop being delusional, R* doesn't need money from Sony to make a game and their profits would be much higher from going multi. Unless Sony pays for 100% of the development cost I don't see R* making any exclusive.

-Foxtrot3851d ago

If they did then Jack Trentton would of said so when asked about AGENT. Its a simple yes or no question.

How am I being delusional, your the one being delusional because they did IN FACT do this deal with Sony

You funded L.A Noire (which wasn't directly made by Rockstar) but we would like you to allow the game to go multiplatform and in return we will make AGENT an exclusive PS3 game

...thats how it most likely went, thats not being delsuional, it's fact.

FamilyGuy3851d ago (Edited 3851d ago )

The part that's "delusional" is thinking that Rockstar couldn't just give the money back to Sony and make even more money from being multiplaform.

I do understand what you're saying though. Agent may well be exclusive and maybe that's why R* is dragging their feet on making it. If it does come out as an exclusive it'd be a great system seller based off of R*s fame alone.
As far as Jack Trenton saying anything about it: did he use the word "exclusive" the last time he spoke about it? How long ago was this?

I'm buying a PS4 day 1, it's not like it want it to be multi, I don't care just as long as it comes out on PS3 or PS4. All I'm saying is that a broken deal makes sense more than them honoring that deal. They didn't honor the deal for L.A. Noire so why trust them now?

BlackTar1873850d ago

Family guy,

The delusional part is assuming your story completely. At least these people saying the opposite have some sort of factual evidence to back it up. With you and allwrong you are basically just assuming everything in it's entirety. The delusional ones are the ones that's entire argument is based on assumption.

MysticStrummer3850d ago

"Stop being delusional, R* doesn't need money from Sony to make a game"

They made LA Noire and Sony helped them. Case closed. Yes, they could theoretically pay Sony back with cash instead of an exclusive, but you're assuming more than the people you're calling delusional.

FamilyGuy3850d ago

It's just a logical opinion. I'm not saying/assuming that the deal no longer exist, just giving out thoughts on the possible outcome.

I guess I just tend to think of negative outcomes because I don't like to be disappointed.

maniacmayhem3850d ago (Edited 3850d ago )

"They made LA Noire and Sony helped them."

And LA Noire went multiplatform so how does this help your argument.

I find it extremely funny that no one is willing to believe that Rocksta doesn't owe Sony a thing but instead choose to believe that they still do.

Jack Tretton even stated years ago that he had no idea about the state of Agent so why would anyone still believe that it's exclusive or even still a project in development?

I think it's even more delusional to believe that Rockstar is in some kind of mafia like debt to Sony.

@Foxtrot
"...thats how it most likely went, thats not being delsuional, it's fact."

What!? You state that's how it most likely went, meaning you don't even know yourself. But in the same sentence you write it's a fact?

That makes absolutely no sense at all. It's not a fact because no one knows what deal is in place or if there is even a deal still.

That is extreme delusion by the way.

snp3850d ago (Edited 3850d ago )

I don't know what the deal is beyond what i'm reading here, but assuming it's true, it stands to reason there would be more to it than simply 'paying the money back'. 20 million years ago would have almost entirely funded a huge game. Nowadays it's relatively paltry versus budgets.

It would be disingenuous to just give back that money in place of a game - if a game were promised back then - with budgets to create a reasonable alternative where they are now. If they were to simply 'give back' the money common sense says they'd be in larger debt than simply 20 million. It would have to be some sort of 'market equivalency' number; and quite possibly factoring in roi from what LA Noire's revenue, via Sonys funding, opened up (if Rockstar were to welsh.)

If I remember correctly, LA Noire was being developed by Team Bondi under a 3 game exclusivity contract with Sony. For some reason the contract was terminated and development of LA Noire by Bondi was cancelled, but resumed by Rockstar half complete and released as multiplatform. Agent was supposed to be an exclusive title by Rockstar in return for LA Noire.

ApocalypseShadow923d ago (Edited 923d ago )

I think the writer is "a little late" if they are wondering on if Rockstar is ignoring the Agent game announcement. Anyone waiting this long for the game have gone to college, got married and had kids. It's not an IP if there wasn't any game released.

It's just another reminder of an announcement that went nowhere. Same as Deep Down, 8 Days, Killing Day, The Getaway, etc.

If it ever shows up, it would be the surprise of the year. But I wouldn't bother holding your breath.

gintoki777923d ago

It was all just a lie to get us to buy consoles

923d ago
ApocalypseShadow922d ago

I wouldn't go that far. More like Rockstar was no longer committed in making games beyond their bread and butter GTA and RD that sells in the tens of millions. We see that today. No new IPs. No updates or sequels of their other games.

No more Bully, no Warriors, no Midnight Club, no Table Tennis, no Manhunt, no Smugglers Run. Nothing but the above two games. No risk. I mean, they can't even be bothered to create DLC for those above games. Just milking the online with micro transactions.

They announced Agent but were never committed to make it in my opinion.

roadkillers922d ago

This title was most likely fraud. Take-Two and Sony had a partnership. This is why every GTA prior to 4 was released on Playstation console first. Rockstar promised a new unique IP to Sony for the release of GTA time-exclusivity.

I'm not mad, but I do genuinely think Sony was played with. What could Sony do? Bring them to court and ruin an incredibly strong relationship with the most dominant company in the industry? They were frustrated, I remember past interviews with Sony stating that they know nothing on Agent.

Remember, Rockstar was still releasing games on a yearly basis when Agent was announced. In my opinion, one of the biggest gaming heists of all time and by fact... one of the biggest gossiped game of all time.

Mr_cheese922d ago

No lies, I went to uni, got married and am now expecting a kid hahaha

I did however 99% give up on Agent, saved the 1% because I'm a dreamer

ApocalypseShadow922d ago (Edited 922d ago )

Lol. Well, it's nice to dream. Congrats on the baby.

The way I look at it is if they were really committed to make it happen, they would have already. It just didn't fit into their GTA formula.

No matter what people think of The Last Guardian, Sony seemed to commit to releasing it. Either it was the team, the producer, director, something. They WANTED to make it after Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. No matter how long it took. We may not see that happen again at Sony. I do respect them for that.

But you can see the difference as Rockstar never released a trailer of the game, no updates, no developer interviews, etc. I figured it was dead after the first year. If it ever shows up, even "Duke Nukem" would smile.

Mr_cheese922d ago

Thank-you! It's exciting times and made me laugh when reading your comment because it put the whole saga into context.

GTA Online has destroyed a lot of what we, the fans, expect from Rockstar. It is a shame because it feels like they're becoming a one game (new) a generation business now rather than a multi game developer.

Can't ever diss the quality of what they deliver, just wish we had more (which isn't outrageous considering the bank they make)

LemyAtom922d ago

Deep Down looked really great. Of course, we've had Dark Souls 3 and Bloodborne and more since then to fill the void.

jBlakeeper922d ago

R* won’t sell anything that isn’t proven to sell tens of millions. The gaming landscape has changed immensely since this game was announced and game development is too expensive and takes too long to incentivize making new IP’s.

Yui_Suzumiya922d ago

For me it's the opposite.. I was married to my second wife and had a kid around that time.. now I've been divorced for 9 years, gotten obsessed with anime and visual novels recently and even got a Yui Hirasawa tattoo on my right now.
