Survival Horror in current mainstream games is dead. It has been long dead now. Shinji Mikami, the creator of Resident Evil, is finally trying to bring it back through his latest game. He is finally trying to rejuvenate the long dead Survival Horror, which has now been replaced by more action-oriented titles with elements of so called “Horror” thrown in the mix, and the “Survival Horror” of these titles is long gone.
Veteran video game developer Shinji Mikami has established a new company.
That’s according to a bio of the developer on the new Shadows of the Damned Hella Remastered website, which claims that Mikami has recently founded ‘Kamuy Inc’.
No details further details on the company have been shared. There is also no indication of what the company will do.
Shinji should never stop making games. Kinda crazy he left the funding of M$ though.
I remember when it was announced that he was leaving Tango, someone on N4G claimed that he was old and it was time for him to retire.
I couldn't help but laugh at the ignorance. Mikami (like most Japanese people), do not want to work for Microsoft, they want their games to be played by their fellow citizens, which means Switch, Playstation, and PC. But this fool couldn't comprehend that. 🤣
Was waiting for his return announcement, glad to see that he's back! Please don't make mobile games.
I hope it's still survival horror
They should build on what they did with Evil Within for a new IP and take notes from the Evil Within sequel with those open hub areas.
Wouldn't mind if it was like Resident Evil but with a vampire virus instead.
Yeah this man's skills need a new start to thrive. Hope he keeps doing what he loves. Wonder what his next project is.
Xbox Game Pass continues to bring quality titles for gamers no matter the genre, but this time we here at CGMagazine have compiled a list of spine-tingling titles to celebrate the spooky season with.
The Dead Space Remake gets added to GamePass 10/26, definitely worth playing through.
The Epic Game Store's weekly freebies includes a game to give you nightmares.
the game is looking sub-par.
"Will Shinji Mikami’s Evil Within rejuvenate the Survival Horror genre?"
If the hype is to be believed, yeah, probably.
The genre was never dead ... it was just Capcom making up excuses to call of dutify resident evil and naughty dog proved it with the Last of Us
Its looking pretty good and after the massive disappointment of RE6 (which followed the kind of disappointing RE5) Its something im personally looking forward to.
The Last Of Us is one of my favorite games this gen, but it's not really a survival horror any more than a game like Bioshock 1, the elements are there, for example the part when you have to start up the generators in the dark abandoned factory was creepy as hell. But other than that I consider the game to be a survival action.
Survival Horror has seen a niche revival on the PC with games like Metro 2033, Amnesia, and more recently Outlast which is set to release on PS4 post launch,, especially Outlast it's arguably the most horrifying game ever made, seriously check that game out its unreal.
