Xbox One Developers Having Problems with Drivers; Technical Dilemma

Expected for November 22, Xbox One is about to invade the shelves. In the meantime, developers work to finalize titles available at launch. And according to our internal echoes some developers, some problems emerge.

I thought Microsoft was all about software ? They also said that on paper Ps4 is stronger but their software would somehow make the difference ?

Drivers are very important and somewhat more important than hardware itself. The basic concept is that if you have a really good driver, you can get the max performance from your hardware. If the Xbox One is going to keep up with PS4, they are going to have to get their drivers in order. I find this news strange because Microsoft announced that (on the same day as the GPU overclock), that the graphics driver had been 100% optimized.

To be realistic though, how does one perfectly optimize a driver for every possible game engine? I'm not sure its possible. Microsoft is clearly running behind schedule.

I haven't heard anything good from devs regarding XBO. Games are getting downgraded left and right. Im a Xbox supporter, but i got to say is really hard to get excited about their system with all this bad buzz around. Thank god Im getting a PS4 at launch also.

My only concern is the controller, but there are people in the industry saying the controller is better than the XBO one, so im not too worry

I've been saying this since February when the PS4 was announced: Microsoft was caught off guard and now they're rushing to launch this thing. It was evident at the official May 21st reveal. It was evident when we heard the confused jumble of policies following the reveal. It was evident during the fallout after all the DRM and online requirements were officially confirmed. It was evident at E3, Gamescom, TGS, and every leak in between that the Xbox One was being rushed. From insider reports of faulty parts to PCs being used to showcase X1 games to to the unusually-high percent of 360-to-X1 game conversions in the launch window, it's clear that X1 is being rushed to market.

The last time Microsoft launched a rushed system, we got years and years of RRoD, E73 error, disc scratching, power brick failure, and much more. Buying an X1 is a worse gamble than blowing $500 at the horse races.

Actually, if the PS4 is 50% better, then the Xbox One is less powerful by 33%.

Xbox One VS PS4
Graphics: 1.2/1.3Tflops VS 1.84TFlops
RAM: 68Gb/sec VS 176 Gb/sec

And developers are having a hard time using the sDRAM that Could potentially boost the 68Gb/sec to 102 Gb/sec, still quite lower than the PS4.

As for the Ghz increase of the Xbox One.
1-We don't know the final specs of the PS4 CPU except for rumours.
and 2-If Ghz were really that important, then the PS3 3.6Ghz would crush them all.
Seriously, there's a lot more that goes into the CPU design to make it more efficient that isn't just about the Ghz.

Just like the GPU isn't just Tflops, but the PS4 has more shader cores, more textures and even more stuff.
Until we know more, some developers said for the CPU side, there could be some improvements.

worst of all is that Sony went around asking devs what they wanted from a next-gen machine. Sony could've easily put an upgraded CELL + beefy Nvidia GPU and called it a day but they instead delievered on the requests of developers (I know Sony needed to make good with devs this time but my point still stands) and made what sounds like a very enjoyable console to work with.

for devs to not use what Sony has generously given them is a slap in the face. the least they could do as a thank you is to take full advantage of the PS4 hardware.

They are all about software. The only problem is that they are prone to release stuff half assed and unfinished. I'm a system administrator and deal mainly with Microsoft products so I know first hand. Every version of Windows in the last ten years at least, has been release to manufacturing unfinished and then patched all to hell. They eventually get it stable after all of the service packs and updates (Windows XP for example) and then they release another hot mess (Vista followed XP). Don't get me started on the Server products lol.

Anyway, I would be careful future Xbox One day one owners. MS doesn't mind releasing a product that's unfinished...

I find it amusing how so many MS enthusiasts keep repeating that Forza is 1080p and 60 fps (it's rumured to be down graded as well) as if that automatically makes the game graphically superior.

You know what other game was 1080p 60fps? Super Stardust. Is that game graphically better than infamous? of course not. The game was less taxing on the hardware and so the developers could boost up the pixels and frames.

The same logic applies to Forza. There not a lot of extra features in the game, such as weather effects and highly detailed backgrounds, so Turn 10 are able to boost up the frames and pixels.

But me personally will wait until we have the games in our hands before I make a final judgement.

First froza doesn't look that great heck driveclube looks way better at 1080P 30 then froza 1080P 60 and it doesn't have night and weather in froza where drive club does. Microscam should focus on xbone game play and fun not graphics. The xbone has a real advantage over the PS4 and its there cloud service. Not the P.R bull crap they are lying about i mean the real advantage cheaper dedicated servers. Before you comeback that sony also use dedicated servers on first party games and have a partnership with rackspace for dedicated servers on PSN. Microscam owns a cloud service and can offer cheap dedicated servers to third party game developer. If i was microscam i would put a spotlight on online multiplayer gaming and stop trying to out sony sony. Nintendo don' t try to compete with PS4 on graphics they use their strength game play and better first party games. This does suck. What I find a bit strange is if I'm making a game and I can prove to MS that it is their drivers and/or development tools that are holding back the X1 version of the game, how could MS be offended if the PS4 version is better?

Also, it would seem like DICE has a very popular game on their hands, what could MS do if they did feel offended? I don't think they would risk not allowing BF4 or future EA or DICE games to be published on their system.

Yea, I've been thinking about that too,. and I've came to the conclusion that , although DICE may get heat from EA, to make cross-platforms partial.. DICE makes it's own calls at the end of the day,. Since the Ps4 is so easy to render for, it will look better on Ps4.

Since the Drivers are on Microsoft, they can not hold it against DICE, for making the PS4 version a little bit better,. (with future driver updates, bringing up the quality.)

Actually, considering the differences in architecture, the PS4 version could wind up looking worse. If devs build down yet fail to compensate for any differences.

Xbox has a good network but they lack good exclusives. Forza is decent though. Halo was way over rated part 2 was good, part 3 and 4 negative. Halo wars....mouth fart. Fable mouth fart. There hasn't been a single proven case where they would have to downgrade ANY game for the PS4 because of the XB1...in fact it's starting to look more like the opposite is true. Other than fanboy rumors or spins, no one has ever confirmed this will have to happen. If there was really that huge of a gap, we would have heard it on day one...PS would be ALL OVER IT...but they can't go around saying it cause it's not true...only fanboys can.

This article even said that it's an issue that also effects PS4...now issues as far as framerate and resolution shouldn't have any issues if they need to downgrade a game from one system to another. The games are handled by different teams for each console anyway. All games on PS4 and XB1 will already be upscalled to 1080p anyway, so if PS4 was able to make it pure 1080p and XB1 wasn't, there would be nothing stopping them...so saying that ANYTHING has to be downgraded on PS4 for XB1's sake is just garbage...these games aren't being ported from one to another, they are both coming from PC builds this gen.

How did the Xbox dominate the previous (PS@) or current (PS3) gen. CATCH a wake up FFS!. The ONLY time the eXBox360 dominated in the real world was before and maybe during the first year the PS3 was released. Thereafter the PS3 caught up and surpassed the eXBox360 ALL over exept in the USA and UK as facts and results show. What were the 360 sales this year compared to the PS3? (wink) Which console is still current and received the most and best rated AA games the last few years?

Eish, that is a bad one. So the rumours are definitely true, there are trade off's to be made for the eXBone! So far the clouds contribution seems to elude the developers. I just hope it's not true tho that the suggestion made that the dev's will have to do the same trade off on the PS4 version to retain game parity to appease M$?

This in my view may be true therefore the gimping of the M$ launch titles we read about the last few days.

I just hope M$ get their act together as many sem to be in for a major disappointed the way it's going right now. Looks like the rumours that the eXBone was rushed maybe true. Therefore the ugly prototype box at development issues as well as proper technical specks this late in the game. There are only a few weeks left before release!!!!!

I am now so glad I decided during the E3 already that PS4 will be the first, and more so seemingly the only, buy. I hope Kinect2 will soon work on the PC.

Im sure the same will apply to the Bone, however, I find it childish that people voting on this rumour favour the idea that the bone is "hopefully" crap...

I know if you had a preference for the PS3 in the beginning of this gen, you were hung , drawn and quartered by the MS community, but cmon , how about a little decorum by the PS brethren.

ok iv been a long time n4g user don't really comment its been years but I can only take so much I love video games on every system. but the true is Microsoft is shady as shit I went threw 12 xbox 360 and ill give them that when they made the slim it was great its what the 360 should of been.. now heres the thing back in ps2 gamecube xbox days the xbox was a beast spec wise now with the ps4 and xbox one I really hate that what they named it that btw the ps4 is a beast spec wise its a given but does better specs mean better games? hell no just look at the ps2 or the gamecube. it all comes down to it we are gamers why fight with each other they will both have great games I plan on buying both hell im getting the Zelda wii u this weekend. so stop fighting and be a real gamer and buy all 3 next gen ps3 xbox one and wii u don't forget the 3ds and vita to! and don't believe im not a fanboy heres my xbox live tag RJ92009 and my psn RJ2009 don't play the 360 much anymore the last game I played was halo 4 and it was great btw loved the story but yeah if you call your self a real gamer you would care about games not this fanboy war my dick is bigger then your dick shit.. bam you guys happy its been since like 09 since I posted on here and I could give a rats ass about grammar and spelling
