Kingdoms of Amalur IP auction starts November 14, includes Rise of Nations

The 38 Studios and Big Huge Games liquidation auction will begin November 14, according to the Heritage Global Partners auction services page. Among the assets included in the auction from the state of Rhode Island are the Kingdoms of Amalur intellectual property, namely the Project Copernicus MMO that was in development at 38 Studios prior to its closure in May 2012. Additionally, buyers will be able to obtain sequel and merchandise rights and revenue for the developer's lone release, Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

No point in hoping one of the big three to pick up an IP at an auction, it rarely ever happens. So let's save the Sony should buy it and give it to Santa Monica comments before they even start.

animegamingnerd3856d ago

when was the last time one of the big 3 actually bought a studio

jackanderson19853856d ago

sony back in august 2011 i think is the last time one of the big 3 bought a studio

coolbeans3856d ago

Microsoft bought Twisted Pixel back in late '11.

Sony bought Sucker Punch back in '11 as well.

Pintheshadows3856d ago

It'll probably be picked up by Deep Silver as they seem to be mad on doing this. Not a bad thing.

reef10173856d ago

KOA: Reckoning had a lot of potential. Hope the IP gets picked up by a someone good.

RBlue_Desire3856d ago

Yes it does, though whomever picks it up, I hope that they start a new or maybe years later after Reckoning.

Sharius3856d ago

i hope sony will pick it up, this is really a good game

pyramidshead3856d ago

This was actually a decent looking game and played pretty well.

Don't even think I've completed it yet because I'm such a side quest whore on RPG games. I just remember liking that skill with the warrior class when you made shit come up out the ground like spikes similar to Prototype!

Roccetarius3856d ago

I have to admit, the way levels were spaced out in Amalur was poor. With all those side quests, you ended up reaching max level way before the end of the game.

pyramidshead3856d ago

Hmm, I don't think I reached that far, maybe I've still got a long way to go then, I remember still being able to get my ass handed to me a couple times.

Combat was a bit repetitive too, but overall it was a game I wouldn't have originally bought and ended up really liking it.

Hopefully a honest and more than average developer picks up Amalur. It definitely had potential.

Looking Back at Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning

Do you remember the good old days, when video games put fast hack-and-slashing combat sequences and extensive levelling systems first and a deep narrative with memorable characters second? BigHuge Games certainly banked on gamers holding some kind of nostalgia for those titles of yore with their fantasy RPG Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning.

Best action rpg of its generation. Loved it.

Soulst0rmer2352d ago

This deserves to be on Switch

execution172352d ago

Loved the world and combat, just horrible timing for the release tho :/

Matrix62352d ago

Would play a remaster next gen

taijutsu3632352d ago (Edited 2352d ago )

This is hilarious that i would see an article after I went and re-bought the game and playing it all week! I love the QTEs in this game its satisfying, the combat is fluid where you can switch from weapons to magic so easily, the weapons, armor, quests, character customizations, lore, world, voice acting, are all great this game has almost everything you'd need and want from an RPG!

I really wish there was going to be a KoAR 2!

Phoenix Down 49.2 – Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning

The journey comes to an end.

InMyOpinion2890d ago

Would LOVE to see a sequel to this brilliant game. Wouldn't mind a remake for current gen systems either.

Hypnotic2890d ago

Last I heard this studio went out of business so I would think a remaster is pretty unlikely.

InMyOpinion2888d ago

Never say never, Darksiders 2 got a remaster.

phantomexe2890d ago

I think EA owns the rights to it now. I loved the game as well. A rare gem overlooked.

rezzah2889d ago

Went into a cave for a mission...Mission glitches and I can't start the mission or exit the cave...Auto save and manual saves are within the cave....I messed up so bad I quit. Really good game though.

hazelamy2889d ago

such a great game, shame about the studio.
to produce something of that quality as their first title, just imagine what they could have done with more experience.
