EA to not produce NCAA football game in 2014

Video game manufacturer Electronic Arts will not publish a version of its college football game next year and it may stop doing so permanently because of litigation concerning the use of the athletes' names and likenesses, the company announced Thursday.

NYC_Gamer3857d ago

Why shouldn't NCAA athletes get paid?EA needs to sign the check and pay those dudes already.

TomShoe3857d ago

They're only doing this to keep college football players oppressed and make money of their likenesses.

I hope NBA Live 14 flops.

zeal0us3857d ago

Not just EA but the colleges/universities as well should be paying these athletes.

TheEnigma3133856d ago

Well they do get free tuition.

JeromeNtheHouse3856d ago (Edited 3856d ago )

I agree 100% These kids and athletic programs make soo much money for these universities, it's not even funny. Not saying they should overdo it, and be paid millions or even thousands to play, but just give them a couple 100 dollars after a game or every so often between games.

NCAA as well as these universities are so crooked.

@cochise_313

Nah, sometimes Free tuition isn't enough for a lot of players. More than half the time these cats be broke as hell, even though they attend a nice university. They risk their butts off to play for these schools, that generate so much revenue just off the athletic programs alone, and the players don't see a dime. Not to mention major sponsors that pay the schools money as well.

The bigger the program/school, the better the players they get, which equals more major sponsors (Nike, Adidas, Reebok, etc), which then equates to more money for the school, and not the players/kids... Bastards!

Emilio_Estevez3856d ago

They aren't allowed to according to NCAA guidelines. Can't use their likeness b/c of the lawsuit and can't pay them for their likeness b/c of NCAA rules. So gamers pay the price and miss out on NCAA games.

cactusjack3856d ago

free tuition and board, allowances, arent enough, not these kids want to be millionaires.

EA Delists Latest FIFA Games From Prominent Digital Stores

Following the release of EA Sports FC 24, the publisher seems to have removed FIFA 14 up to 22 from major digital storefronts.

MrNinosan202d ago

And as a Journalist, you should know why.
FIFA ain't allowing the games on the storefronts without EA paying for them. Pretty obvious.

Rols202d ago

Looks like the FIFA licensing deal has expired. No mystery about it.

badboyz09202d ago (Edited 202d ago )

just_looken320d ago

Well its sports gamers so they will buy the nft's very fast.

BrainSyphoned320d ago

EA: We need a new way to be voted the worst company
Nike: Have you tried child slave labor? No?... well how about a Jordan NFT. We will even throw in Chinese LeBron NFTs for free!

potatoseal320d ago

Can they even read the room? The world wide gaming room filled with gamers. No one wants this. They know they will probably get away with putting NFTs in their sport games.

XiNatsuDragnel320d ago

EA and Activision are competing for worst company fr.

mariopasta320d ago (Edited 320d ago )

How could they not know this is the wrong ass move. If EA survive this which they will, they are seriously untouchable. Too many casuals play their games and dont know what happening or even give a dam

JackBNimble320d ago

How is Nike still surviving?

People talk about justice this justice that but are so self absorbed that they will continue to support these companies so they can have their neat little things.

At the end of the day , everything the plebs say is all a lie.

Good idea but I expect the NCAA and college boards to swipe away all that money for themselves.

badboyz09350d ago

This means 2 things
1.Ultimate Team is Confirmed
2.They have some competition from another Studio

anast350d ago

They need to start paying college players.

hiroyukisanada350d ago
