Minecraft PS4 - Same Code Across All Consoles

4J Studios confirms that Minecraft PS4 edition will be the same as the Xbox 360 version.

malokevi3854d ago

Really unexpected. Why would they shortchange the PS4 version? Obviously the PS4 has the processing power to keep up with the PC/XB1 version. 8gb of ram seems like plenty for infinite worlds and MMO-style multiplayer.

The link doesn't even go anywhere.

Would like an explanation on this one? Money? Exclusivity? Minecraft is a massive draw for a lot of young people. I can see this factoring into some peoples decision making process when buying a console.

Emilio_Estevez3854d ago (Edited 3854d ago )

Says it will be the same across all consoles dude. Not sure why the next-gen versions wouldn't be at least a little closer to PC though.

Guys, there is this thing called reading, I would look into it.

"Minecraft PS4 Edition Same as Xbox 360"

Says where? The link goes nowhere.

Already, the Xbox360 version is different from the PC version, and the PC version will be the same as [or at least very nearly similar to] the X1 version... so I don't know where you are getting your information.

"The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Minecraft will support larger worlds and more multiplayer features but to what extent has yet to be revealed."

http://www.examiner.com/art...

Conflicting information highlights the need for clarification. But if the PS4 version is the same as the 360 version, than the PS4 version is a dwarfed version. Might explain why the XB1 version doesn't have a launch date yet, and the PS4 version does.

Just connecting the dots, here... not trying to hate on your favorite machine.

"The underlying game code will be the same version across all consoles"

UltimateMaster3854d ago (Edited 3854d ago )

Minecraft is pretty much the same version on any platform.
PC, Smart phone, console.
It's not the most graphically demanding game.
A dual core XP can run it.

Did anyone actually tough it was going to be different?
Has anyone of you played Minecraft before?

You could potentially make bigger worlds, but unless they release Minecraft 2 with better graphics, it won't be graphically superior. Is what I mean.

malokevi3854d ago (Edited 3854d ago )

@UltimateMaster

I have played it for many tens of hours on my Xbox360. I've also been keeping up with how it will be different on the Xbox One & PS4. Judging by your comment, I find it hard to believe that "YOU" have ever played it, or even regarded it with anything more than a cursory glance.

@eonjay

Yes, they say that in a few articles, right before they say "but the multiplayer will be different..."

Of course the underlying code is the same. This is minecraft. It's so brilliantly simple that there will never be any need to alter the underlying code. Doesn't mean all versions are identical.

KrisButtar3854d ago

"The underlying game code will be the same version across all consoles, so at least Xbox 360's TU13 equivalent."

from the link you cant open,, its just posted from twitter

malokevi3854d ago (Edited 3854d ago )

christ... this place is impossible.

Same article, as I posted and quoted from above... shortly after your quoted text...

"The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Minecraft will support larger worlds and more multiplayer features but to what extent has yet to be revealed."

THEY WILL NOT BE THE SAME!

"underlying code" is just that... UNDERLYING CODE!

The title of this article LITERALLY SAYS, AND I QUOTE:

"Minecraft PS4 Edition Same as Xbox 360"

IF THATS THE CASE, THEN THIS SENTANCE (I REPEAT)

"The PS4 and Xbox One versions of Minecraft will support larger worlds and more multiplayer features but to what extent has yet to be revealed."

IS A DIRECT CONTRADICTION! XBOX 360 DOES NOT FEATURE INFINITE WORLDS OR THE OFT-ELUDED TO "OTHER MP FEATURES".

SO WHICH IS IT? EXPLAIN THAT! OR YOU CAN SIMPLY CONTINUE TO INTERPRET THIS AS AN ATTACK ON YOUR MANHOOD.

FANBOYS! I'm getting a PS4 and an XB1, both day 1 editions, so try your hardest (I know, its impossible) to see this as an impartial inquiry into conflicting facts from a person who is genuinely interested in minecraft.

EVERYTHING DOESNT HAVE TO BE A FANBOY PISSING CONTEXT, YOU VS. THE WORLD!

please just think.... think.... think about this contradiction and roll it around in your head before you respond. I'm actually interested to see if anyone else understands where I'm coming from... I will not think less of the PS4 if it does happen to have an inferior version of Minecraft (hell, I'm not even sure I should have used the word "inferior" for fear of inciting outrage among PS4 buyers.)

Army_of_Darkness3854d ago

This game looks like crap on every platform already so I wouldn't even consider buying it on the ps4.

Enemy3854d ago (Edited 3854d ago )

Minecraft is old news.

Swiftcricket3854d ago

@Army_of_Darkness

Oh Minecraft can have HD textures, but it would crash even next-gen consoles if the map was a respectable size. I tried using some really high resolution textures once and crashed my PC that's not far off from next-gen specs. Minecraft can be more physically demanding than people realize and that's why it looks the way it does.

SilentNegotiator3853d ago

Guys, it's Minecraft. If they made it the least optimized port on the planet, it would still run fine.

seriously, update the look of this game.

It was cool for a while and I loved playing it, but the pixel box thing is OVER and not as fun or "cool" anymore.

They have the tech to make the same game but with 100X better graphics/ art style, yet they don't.

Just keep on milkin i guess.

sorane3854d ago

Looks amazing with mods :)

HeyImBen113854d ago

After 3 years someone is still complaing about the pixel look, that makes this game unique and suitable for this gameplaystyle? Wow.

Tctczach3854d ago

@Malokevi
Chill man. Everything will be ok.

malokevi3854d ago

Whatever bud. Its obvious that I'm right. If I need to capitalize and emphasize just to get an obvious and apparent point across to a bunch of raving fanboys, then that's what I'll do.

But I really appreciate the constructive criticism.

Mr Pumblechook3854d ago (Edited 3854d ago )

4J Studios are talking in that slimey PR talk where they don't directly answer a question because they have something to hide.

They say 'the underlying game code is the same across all versions' which is logical. But he doesn't confirm or deny that the PS4 version will be the equivalent of the new better featured XBOne edition. Which leaves us to infer that the PS4 version is indeed gimped.

A developer should make a game for any format they support to the best of their ability - not hold back on features because of a big payment.

IaMs123854d ago

You all realize that MineCraft is not a next-gen type of game. I'm not sure what you expect to have more on the PS4 version, can't really upgrade the visuals, defeats the purpose of minecraft.

If anything hope they add the PC updates on it, thats the only difference.

Uh uh. That's not gonna work. might as well get it on my tablet

UltimateMaster3854d ago

"@mewhy32"
"Well that bites."
You mean: Well that bytes.
It's only a bunch of bytes.

MadLad3854d ago

No reason for that.
While I did play it a fair bit on the 360 back when that was still my main gaming platform, I will admit it was a rather limited version of the game.

bumnut3854d ago

Minecraft looks like crap on any platform, part of its appeal is that it can be played on many different devices.

Infinite but not the first two games? Witcher 3 but not the first two games?? GTA V but not literally any of the games before it??? Portal 2 but not the first? Also if you're going to play Shadow of The Colossus play the remaster and not the remake. Can't say I disagree with the list but my man it's all over the place.

Name Last Name34d ago

I mean some sequels are objectively better and you don’t need to play the whole series.

Inverno34d ago

But most of these games have a story to follow, sure you can catch up with a YouTube vid but where's the fun in that?

LucasRuinedChildhood34d ago (Edited 34d ago )

A list like this isn't telling you not to play the previous games if you want to. It's just giving you legendary games to play.

But tbh, you don't always have to force yourself to play every entry in a franchise to get to the better ones.

- The vast majority of Witcher 3 players never played the first 2 and had a great time. The first 2 games aren't in the same league.
- The GTA games are self-contained with the odd fun reference. You can easily jump into any of them.
- The Shadow Of The Colossus remake looks and controls better than the original (plus it has a 60fps option while the remaster is just 30fps). New players will enjoy it more.
- Portal 2 is a lot better than Portal 1 and takes the concept much further gameplay-wise. Storywise, Portal 1 is fairly light too. Not that you shouldn't play it but realistically ... you'd love Portal 2 whether you play it or not (at lot of Portal 2 players have never played 1).

Bioshock 1 is the only one I agree with you on simply because it's one the best games of all time and arguably better than Infinite. No other setting like Rapture.

Looking at the list, I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before 2 but no doubt, 2 is the legendary one you have to play.

Inverno34d ago

I get it, but that's just my opinion on his opinion. I just think that before you play a sequel you should still play what came before it. Maybe it's just me but i find it fascinating playing through the first game in a series and seeing how it has evolved through its sequels. Like I said I don't disagree with the list, other than SoTC which I strongly believe the remaster of the original should be played above the remake.

AuraAbjure33d ago

Awesome list! Hot take on Fear (and it's hard af expansion Persaus Mandate!) Bioshock Infinite is stellar, so is the Witcher 3 and you nailed it by having Ocarina of Time. So many fantastic games! Gotta play 'em all! Next one on my list is Prey after I beat Dead Space 2 and Splinter Cell Conviction.

Minecraft Bedrock Introduces Official Add-Ons To Marketplace

Minecraft Bedrock is introducing add-ons to the marketplace. The add-ons can now be added to many existing and new worlds.

Jin_Sakai54d ago (Edited 54d ago )

Nice! Next up, shaders on consoles.

“A new update is improving how mods work for Minecraft Bedrock. Mojang has introduced add-ons to the marketplace.”

“These add-ons can now easily be added to new and existing worlds instead of being tied to a single world.
There are plenty of free and paid add-ons that will let you customize just about anything in your world.”

OtterX53d ago

So RayTracing is no longer locked to the NVIDIA maps? I know there was a workaround, but it will be nice to have easier access to all worlds.
