AMD Hawaii R9-290X GPU Benchmarks Exposed – Fastest GPU On the Planet With 1020 MHz Clock Speed

As you can see, the Hawaii R9-290X came out overall faster than the other graphic cards in gaming benchmarks. Ofcourse, since mature drivers aren’t available yet we will be noticing some hiccups in performance but overall the card is the fastest single chip GPU on the planet. Expect more benchmarks soon!

Looking foward to the full line up reveal and the technology behind these new G-cards.

ATi_Elite3867d ago

I just LOVE that they did the benchmarks at 1600p on Ultra that way the cards were really getting their teeth kicked in.

Metro Last Light is a MONSTER to run. Only game I have to overclock and overvolt just to get my CFX or SLi set-up to barely do 60 fps.

Good job AMD but in about 10 minutes Nvidia will just make a card to beat Hawaii which is why they made Titan so it could beat the HD7970ghz card.

Razputin3866d ago

Not true, AMD made the 7970GHz edition to compete with most 680s.

Recall that even some 670s (most OCd) beat some 680s and 7970s in benchmarks.

AMD realized they can bump the core to 1GHz on their cards and then re-released them. This pretty much made most 680s and most 7970GHz edition cards even.

Not knocking AMD I think for the price they are the best.

The Titan is somewhere between a 680 and a 690/Sli 680s but just a single GPU.

I do agree that its smart they did these tests under hard constraints instead of typical 720p & 1080p models, so we can actually see the power of these cards.

Gamer19823866d ago

Indeed so those FPS at 1080p are doubled at least. For the price of a nex-gen console you can get one of these cards instead.. Not really much of a choice.. Beats nex gen consoles with ease and saves a fortune on games..

The Creep3866d ago

What do you do? download games for free or something?

RankFTW3867d ago

Looking good for AMD with this card, that is until Nvidia bring out their big boy to counter it.

starchild3867d ago

Yeah, me too. I'll either get an Nvidia maxwell based card or an equivalent AMD card in 2014.

NarooN3867d ago

That's how it's been for years now. AMD releases their flagship card in a new series, trumps Nvidia, Nvidia releases their next big thing, trumps AMD, AMD does the same, rinse & repeat.

At this point, it basically just boils down to which color you like best, Green or Red! (Ultra-simplification hyperbole for comedic effect, but you get the point.)

bl3azy3867d ago

Being that it's only a bit faster then nvidia's TITAN, what I want to know is, how much is it going to cost?

NarooN3867d ago

Well AMD said earlier this month that they don't have any desire to target the "ultra-enthusiast single-GPU market" i.e. Titan, so this is probably gonna be significantly cheaper than that.

Angeljuice3867d ago

@NarooN
$599 (it says in the article).

Yukicore3867d ago (Edited 3867d ago )

Well, if Benchmarks is what you are after then AMD is your choice, but if you want actually play and enjoy the games Nvidia will take care of it.

I was so disappointed with ATi 7950, some games just ran like crap, new or older, but with 770 there are no problems anymore, everything seems perfect.

AMD puts so much effort in making their cards the fastest on the paper, but their driver support just kills off a large percentage of the potential performance, some games are fine, but others just seem abandoned.

starchild3867d ago

What kinds of problems did you have with your HD 7950? Just curious.

Holeran3867d ago

Funny thing is i always had more problems with my Nvidia cards/drivers back when I was very into pc, 5-6 years ago and the ATI cards I ran worked great right away.

duplissi3867d ago

I have a 7950 and no problems whatsoever. only game to kick its teeth in so far has been metro last light.

Yukicore3866d ago

GTA IV was unplayable on 7950, The Amazing Spider-man was unplayable on 7950, and it never did get fixed... Assassins Creed 3 had bad frame rates and stuttering. Pretty much all the games had some amount of stuttering more or less, GTX770 has a lot less of that.

I had coil whine with my ATi card, which from what I have heard is rather typical, from what I have heard.
And many newly released games have problems with ATi cards, performance issues, glitches, and you have to wait decades for them to release a new driver update.

FantasyStar3866d ago (Edited 3866d ago )

GTAIV is like...the worst optimized GFW game. That's little bearing against AMD and more against the PC port team. And ANY game ported by Ubisoft is never ever going to handle itself properly on all PC configs cause Ubisoft doesn't give a fuck(and why people keep feeding that machine is beyond me).

FWIW: AMD runs fantastically with BF3 and I expect the same to happen again for BF4.

duplissi3866d ago

coil whine is not typical, however I have read that some non reference model 7950s did have it, that however has no bearing on amd and is the direct responsibility of your card's manufacturer.

also gta iv and assasins creed 3 are both horrible ports and run like crap on pretty much all pcs

And this comes out before the new consoles launch? Oh boy...

xKugo3867d ago

Impressive so far with their Volcanic Islands line-up. Hopefully they aren't to expensive for those us still waiting to upgrade.

TMNT Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants review - Games Asylum

Games Asylum: "Well, this is neat. As the name suggests, Wrath of the Mutants is the rarest of things – a genuine arcade conversion. With most modern arcade games being ticket redemption machines, this is something seldom seen. In fact, the last arcade conversion we can recall was Raw Thrill’s own Cruis’n’ Blast on Switch back in 2021. This is also based on an older iteration of TMNT, harking back to the series from 2012-2017. It’s essentially breaking franchise continuity (we’ve had two different iterations of the Turtles since) and could even be considered nostalgic for a select few – those who grew up with 2012’s Turtles are probably in their late teens."

It must be frustrating for these devs to see Helldivers 2 absolutely devour their lunch lol

VenomUK48m ago(Edited 39m ago)

-Oh my God, this game looks like a complete rip-off of Helldivers II!

-At least it gives Xbox players the chance to experience something similar to the PlayStation game!

Jokes aside it does make you wonder why Sony, who owns the IP for both, is continuing with two products when there is such overlap. Should it one day make a new Starship Troopers film or a Helldivers film instead?
