Vita TV interest stronger than expected in West, Sony admits

Western interest in Sony's upcoming PlayStation Vita TV has exceeded the company's initial expectations for the device, the company has said.

Speaking in a roundtable interview today with Eurogamer, Sony Japan exec Masayasu Ito said that the response had been "strong... more than we expected".

"Of course we are thinking of launching it in the US and Europe," he added. "But when it comes to the timing, we'll have to watch the environment and identify what other services are available in the US and Europe and whether we'll have to add other services."

It's a 100$ product in japan...$100...that plays vita games.... Obviously it would generate interest....

Godmars2903864d ago

It plays Vita/PSP games - on your TV.

I've never been able to really get into handheld gaming, just a waste of money for me,so I've been hoping for something like this for some time.

darthv723864d ago

It plays Vita/PSP/Mini/PS1 games - on your TV.

And soon...PS3/PS4 streaming.

So if the interest in the West is stronger than expected, perhaps sony will reconsider and release it in the West at the same time?

come on sony....listen to your fans for this like you listen at other times.

Godmars2903864d ago

It can launch in the West when or after Japan gets the PS4, just so long its released or sees online support. Is an overall region free system which will play downloads from any PSN server.

And really if you think about it, if it does deliver on everything promised, it could very well undermine the PS4 while also promoting the always online community MS was trying to force on people the original XB1 plans.

sony please shut up and take my money

i skipped the PSP but PSVita was something i picked up because i wanted to see what this handheld gaming is all about.

Having a PSVita is like having a small PS3 with you to walk around with. i've played so many Vita games that it's really surprising. plus the graphics are amazing!

plus i subscribed for PS+ five months back and the free games just keep rolling. lol.

i don't regret the Vita. you'll love the Vita games. some of them are amazing.

Muerte24943864d ago

this could be something to have in living room while your ps4 is in a more secured area. Potential for this is absolutely astounding. Don't have to worry about my kids wanting to play PS4 anymore.

Luke_fon_Fabre3864d ago

The amount of PSP games downloadable from the PSN store on Vita is really limited. Even with the ability to transfer some games not available on Vita's PSN store from PS3, the selection of compatible games is still really limited. Don't get me wrong, Vita has some great PSP games on it, but it doesn't feel like a main feature because Sony seems to refuse to support PSP games on Vita all that much.

Of course. And from what Sony said will play ps3 games via streaming. A ps3 for $200 yes please.

THamm3864d ago

PS3? Where did it say that? I thought PS4 remote play

iceman063864d ago

When Gaikai is up and running, it can stream PS3 games. Gaikai was used to do the remote play of Assassin's Creed at Gamescon and will probably be the default for those that want to remote play across the internet (as opposed to their network at home).

adventureghost1243864d ago

PS4 which will be able to stream ps3 games with gaikai in a year or so

HakatoX3864d ago

it was said at E3 "PS3 streaming library for PS3, PS4 and later in 2014. To the PS Vita".

parentoftheyear3864d ago (Edited 3864d ago )

Like they said Gaikai will stream ps3 games. And correct my $200 typo, im guessing it will be less than a bill in the Us. Havingg mini low power consuming ps3 streamer that I can fit into my front pocket and take to friends. Its awesome!!! I was an early Onlivr adopter because I think the tech is very cool. Had a lot of fun with on live just started playing d3 and kinda forgot about it. But if Sony would add this little gem to their brAsvio lineup WOW!!! Sorry if my typing is bad this site doesn't switch to mobile automatically.

seems like sony has to deal with admitting they are more amazing than they thought
and ms has to dodge admitting that they are messing everything up

Iltapalanyymi3864d ago

I am interested in it too. Gonna get it when it is available.

KwietStorm_BLM3864d ago

I know I want one. It's a very smart device that just makes sense in today's market, and the price is just ridiculous.

Gladiator’s Arena review - Games Asylum

Games Asylum: "Even though the Vampire Survivors influenced ‘auto shooter’ genre isn’t long in the tooth, I’m still surprised that it has taken this long for a Roman gladiator-themed rendition to come along – especially with a sequel to Ridley Scott’s 2000 box office hit Gladiator imminent. It’s thematically perfect, with its circular arena in which one man stands alone against hordes of enemies, grabbing loot as they survive one wave to the next."
