So let me get this straight. He doesn't like a game that made nearly a billion dollars in ONE DAY because he rather make a game that "lasts 5 minutes" and potentially makes 3 million dollars in a day some time down the road?

In other words, he rather make money than games and thats why the game industry will fail if people follow him.

Edit and lets also not forget something behind the scenes. How many jobs did Rockstar provide while making GTA? How many jobs will his 5 minute adventure provide? Yeah.... GTA is all around the better option.

His logic is based on the fact that he's trying to have a pissing match with Rockstar, and forgot to pull his zipper down... and by the time he completely pissed his pants, Rockstar had already made nearly a billion dollars... and they made this money without crafting lies and false promises, which is something that Mr. Molyneux is very talented at doing.

I really hope he's been mis-quoted here, as anyone suggesting GTA V's launch is anything other than impressive has certifiable issues in terms of their perception of the world around them. Of course, even if he is accurately quoted I suspect he's (yet again) playing politics instead of playing it straight. Standard Molyneux, nothing to see here.

Think you mean relevant, and it's because he's a rather prolific figure in the game industry, and many devs still respect his work. He's outspoken, sometimes misses the point, but so long as someone gives him a sounding board, he will be relevant.

All of you are missing the point.

If games like GTA aren't as profitable as mobile games then guess what publishers would prefer their developers to make. Why do you think we see mobile versions of franchises that were originally console and PC games? Because mobile games are significantly more profitable. If a game can make 5 mil daily for 18 months, takes less time to develop and cost a lot less to develop (and even market) then why bother making a game that could be made in over 2 years and cost millions to make and market. If you don't like mobile games then there may be a future where there's a stagnation in console and PC games. Even handhelds are taking a hit from mobile games and browser games.

Molyneux probably realised after Curiosity he made more money on that than some of his other games.

Not all iOS developers are wildly successful, just like how not all console and portable devs are wildly successful. Just because freaking Angry Birds or Candy Crush makes a bajillion trillion zillion dollars a day, doesn't mean everyone will.

And btw, GTA games are highly profitable. Chinatown Wars not selling like hotcakes unlike previous console GTA games does not represent the profit the whole GTA series generates.

That's all good and fine, but the truth is, most mobile games that aren't backed by big publishers don't do well. The few outside ones like Fruit Ninja or Angry birds hit it good, but many are lucky to make a single dollar, and most don't even make it worth the time to develop at all.

What you're saying is that there is less risk involved in mobile games for a big publisher. And you are right. That doesn't mean that those games are better, or the end all be all of creativity or advancement in gaming.

Molyneux makes games that satiate his own desire to be creative, or to explore certain aspects of human nature that he finds fascinating. In this I can respect him because he is at least making what he wants to make. But there are times, such as this, that he should hold back and realize that not everyone believes in some meaningful experience that will change their whole way of life...which it seems Molyneux believes is what his games can achieve. What he's making now isn't ground-breaking, and if he were just some random indie dev, he would likely be broke. It's his past success off of the same big games he's putting down which gives his current endeavors a chance to succeed.
