Playing PS4 games with PS Vita TV is a lagless, slightly compressed experience

GamesRadar - Sony continued to shine a spotlight on PS Vita TV during its Tokyo Game Show keynote, talking up the little device's ability to stream Vita, PS3, and PS4 games. But how they would look, and--more importantly--how they would play, was yet to be known. As soon as the show floor opened we made a beeline to Sony's booth, and after getting hands-on with the hardware we left with mixed opinions.

I'll just stick with playing PS4 games on the PS4 then.

Hicken3869d ago

Good luck doing that on the go, which is the WHOLE FREAKIN POINT.

SonyNGP3869d ago (Edited 3869d ago )

>implying that I'm planning on doing that

And where does it say that I can play it on the go? All I see is playing it on a different TV.

ShwankyShpanky3869d ago

Um... you can Remote Play anywhere via the internet. Though in that case I'd guess the experience is far from "lagless."

It will be interesting to see the "Remote Play via internet" tests.

And if you're using a Vita (instead of VitaTV), you could have that "lagless" experience anywhere in the wireless range of your PS4, without a TV.

I'm interested in this tech... I hope it comes to the US.

Think the question with the VTV is it just for house, next room use, or anywhere with online.

And then there's the question that if it can use Genki for PS3 BC, what about PS4? If so then the VTV could be the only console you'd need.

@GribbleGrunger:
Still have to see it. One thing for a demo at a convention center, and another in the real world with the worst connection.

GribbleGrunger3870d ago

You'll be able to take this on holiday, plug it into any TV and stream your PS4 content via cable or Wi-Fi. This is a game changer without a doubt.

PrimeGrime3870d ago (Edited 3870d ago )

Gaikai* You been playing too much Saint Rows?

"One thing for a demo at a convention center, and another in the real world with the worst connection."

If you have a terrible connection using remote play simply isn't for you. If you didn't notice even Sony said "good bandwidth" is important. It won't be necessary for inside your home so to say but if you plan on using remote play outside of your home, then having good internet is important.

You can't expect to use remote play well if you know you have really slow internet. Remote play works perfectly, you having bad internet has nothing to do with how it works, as it works fine on internet that supports such usages.

dethpuck3870d ago

Exactly I want to hear real world tests on a vita and not the vita tv. I wonder if all haiku games will be compressed like this

ShwankyShpanky3869d ago (Edited 3869d ago )

Also:

"Remote Play functionality was similarly impressive. There was zero perceptible lag between PlayStation 4 on-screen action and what we were inputting on the Vita. The same sentiment applies to input directly on the Vita for the PS4 game we were playing: no lag, as if Knack were a game being played locally on the Vita. How this will play out with your own home WiFi is another question altogether, which we'll test more thoroughly when we get PlayStation 4 review units in the coming weeks. As of right now, it more than stands up to NVIDIA's Shield. If anything, it bests the Shield's streaming performance with zero hitches while we played."

Video of Engadget's Remote Play session:
http://www.youtube.com/watc...

Somebody on GAF slowed down the video to 1fps. It looks like there's a 2-3 frame lag from what comes up on the TV vs what's displayed on the Vita (Knack is 30fps). Pretty negligible.

Rolling the Dice: Do Modern RPGs Miss the Point of Team-Based Play?

It seems it was long time ago. A bunch of friends spending hours on end playing RPG games, sitting around the table with the box of cold pizza. Excited about the story, listening to the Game Master, they were completely engaged in the worlds only visible to them and their imaginations.

The GM is the programmer, and in MMOs and co-ops, you can play with others. If you want to ONLY use your imagination for the visuals, read a book.

1) Hope they put it on disc this time.
2) Hope this is a positive for Neptune coming over as well.

Demons Souls5068d ago

If so, that's being developed & published by Idea Factory. Compile Heart has nothing to do with it (Thank God for that).

Godmars2905068d ago (Edited 5068d ago )

Thought Compile Heart was one of the companies lending characters.

Was also speaking in general as in regards to a US of Neptune. If these guys are offing a second game, NIS or Atlus, both of whom offer quirkier titles, will put that one out.

@kagon01:
My issue isn't - wholly - with the DL-only option, but the price. The first game should be $30. Maybe $40, and by that I mean $39.99. The only reason its $45 is the 360 disc version which has extras. Nevermind that by all rights its a PS2 game. Something that proabbly could have been done if the devs had the GOW2 engine or tools.

ClownBelt5068d ago

I approve of this god damn message.

Could have gotten my 60 bucks if they just put it on a disc.

Jack-Pyro5068d ago

Is this a half decent SRPG, porn aside, cause if it is, i might just decide to go and buy it for the 360.

Anon73495068d ago

There's no porn just some sexual innuendos but that's it.

Also it is a great game by itself, maybe not graphically but everything else is top tier.

RedDevils5068d ago

so it had some kind of "top tier" porn story jk

ThanatosDMC5068d ago

Yup, it's a decent game. I just hate that a move has to go first before any attack options.
