Rockstar's Houser: 'Grand Theft Auto' is America

XMNR: With the exception of GTA London expansion, the Grand Theft Auto franchise has created fictional versions of various American cities with the latest being Los Santos in GTA V for the PS3 and Xbox 360. Rockstar Games co-writer Dan Houser explained why the franchise will stay the United States in an interview released Thursday.

Good, exactly how it should be. Always in America.

Why though I mean you can do other cities, if you've done London before then do it again.

Seriously this "in merica " stuff is getting annoying, the same is happening with Fallout.

Gun laws and other type of laws in different counties could introduce some new challenging gameplay if it was set in other locations.

I agree with you. So many games have been set in America that it is kind of boring now. UK would be a good place maybe even Canada man, I would love Canada. Think about swimming down Niagara Falls in the game. 0.0

If they are bent on keeping it in America then I strongly want next game to be set some place where we have not visited. Miami, South California, New York all have been done imo its a time for new place maybe in the state of Texas idk I just don't want them to revisit the same places over and over again. Btw I am loving GTA 5.

To me it makes sense.

These GTA characters are all trying to live the grand American dream.
They want the high life, money, and women.

It especially made sense in GTA IV with Niko.

The developers of Fallout are American, and they like the look and feel of 1950's America. They wanted to capture the feeling of the Fallout Nuclear Panic.

The whole game is named after and based after the Nuclear panic that came with the cold war and scared America.

That's why Fallout is placed in America.

What better country to keep taking the p!ss out of

Klonoa-dreamtraveler3868d ago

I'd think cause more gang activity in america plus america has the second most murder rate of homicides.

Also america is number one on the most car thefts and the United States has the most reported crime rate.

America is the best setting for the game. same with watch dogs when they picked chicago for having the most cameras chicago is the murder capital of the us with alot of crime which hits the setting for watch dogs.

People wonder well london has more cameras why not there well london is far from violent compared to america to fit the tune of these violent games.

Rockstar need to learn that 12 years of work and 5000 employees doesn’t account for one persons opinion on the internet…

Oh and hundreds of millions of dollars in revanue to boot.

Lots of complaints about gta ever since the hd era started and yet it's bugger than its ever been with gta vi up to 180 million trailer views alone. The next game is shaping it be be another genre defining game

They already learned they dont have to actually make a great game

The controls of RDR2 felt a but cluncky indeed, but it’s not as bad as some make it out to be. At no point did I get the feeling my experience with the game was held back or ruined by the controls.
But it can never hurt to optimize them a bit, sure.

I did accidentally beat someone to death a couple times. An unfortunate mistake but besides that I didn't have any problems with the controlls

Red Dead Redemption felt clunky at first but I got used to it fairly quick. I thought 2 was easier to control but it could be my experience with the first game helped me out. Great games

Profchaos39d ago

I wouldn't call Rockstar games characters clunky instead they feel like they move with Weight they are not twitch controls press x to instantly snap onto cover the characters instead move like a actor would ducking behind cover they are exposed while they get there.
