Final Fantasy XIV’s PS3 To PS4 Account Transfer Is Free, But You Lose The PS3 Version

No it doesn't. I'm not complaining since I'll probably play on PS4 anyways but I don't see how it's a requirement to disable your PS3 account.

It makes sense as a business move, though. Buy the PS4 version if you want to play on both.

But a requirement? The royalties to Sony are already paid with the PS3 version and they're giving you a digital client for PS4.

The only way they'd lose money is if no one buys the PS4 version. I guess this way they do protect their sales.

But I'm not complaining. It's a good move to give us the PS4 version for free.

It does make sense, but I agree it's stupid. If you do upgrade to the PS4 version it's likely for better graphics and possibly controls since everything else transfers, but why do you lose the PS3 version?

kreate3865d ago (Edited 3865d ago )

This decision is made by that greedy guy yoshida from square enix.

Irishguy953865d ago (Edited 3865d ago )

Use your head and it'll make sense.

Why would they give you two copies of the game? Having one on Ps3 and on Ps4? It does not make sense from a business standpoint. It's like buying a game on Xbox 360 and expecting to get given a Ps3 version too. What you are doing is swapping a Ps3 version for a Ps4 version. Not being given a second copy of the game.

Hmm

Not a big deal tho.

On FF11 when I started with PS2 version I was allowed to load the game across any platform. There was no need to transfer from PS2, PC or X360. The only downside I had was getting the software and having it installed/updated.

The company didn't care what version I connected by provided I had a paid subscription. The company had problems with payment methods, security, customer support and regional issues but, I could pretty much load any client up and play my characters. I clearly never lost any rights when switching from PS2 to PC.

As for the PC version they practically allowed people to pirate it because the software wasn't the prize it was the unlock codes, cost of media distribution and subscription fees that mattered.

I suppose this has something to do with the licensing fees associated with the console. You know how Sony gets a percentage of profits from each sale to their console? That percentage money comes from somewhere. (original purchase) They'd just be moving it for free.

I think the game keys were also cross-platform if I remember correctly. You could borrow your friends' PC or X360 version to install it without spending a penny.

kreate3865d ago

Point this out to square enix.

Sarick3865d ago (Edited 3865d ago )

@kreate

"Point this out to square enix."

They're set in their ways far more then most people understand. Unless someone represents a large majority of interest that impacts profit potential its best just to avoid discussion.

The game itself is high profile and has a lot of positive public opinion. It's nearly impossible to talk openly about how the company mitigates things without ridicule. Lets leave it at that.

kreate3865d ago

I thought ff14 a realm reborn is the result of gamers pointing things out to square enix?

*I didn't hit any agree or disagree button if that matters to u just fyi

exactly how the people want it and dont mind the loss of the ps3 versio as long as all the stats and equipment go over

Baka-akaB3865d ago

A pity , but doesnt bother me anyway

DA_SHREDDER3865d ago

I'll be playing the ps4 version via PS Vita Tv lol

Spenok3865d ago

You do know in order to play PS4 games on your Vita TV you have to own a PS4 first right? It's a streaming service for PS4 games. Kind of like how you can stream PS4 games to your Vita.

So knowing this, why play on your Vita TV if you have a PS4? Or unless someone is taking the main TV.

Good thing I can switch over ^~^

Lol, damn... At this point, they were better off keeping FF XIV away from Xbox. It has been nothing but obstacle, after obstacle.

gold_drake17d ago

wanted to say the exact same thjng.

VenomUK16d ago (Edited 16d ago )

What happens if you say things that used to get you banned on Twitter e.g. 'a man can't be a woman'?

RedDevils15d ago

*insert gift*
"Boys have a penis. Girls have a vagina."

DivineHand12516d ago

I'm not convinced this is the profanity filter. It doesn't make sense to censor words like class, harvest and dance. It seems to be a bug.

16d ago
TheGamingHounds15d ago

Well, FF14 itself has some pretty awful chat censoring so Xbox being in the same boat isn't too farfetched

Eidolon15d ago

it censored the S T D in "harvest dance" and I bet the A S S in class. I know this because of Runescape

Aphrodia16d ago

Yeah these new fangled filters are going a bit too far. I have a game that filters "wtf". It's a censor for a self-censoring phrase. But I think overall it's how it should be. If you don't want certain language being used in your game by your player base, then it's up to you to filter/ censor the language you don't want. I can respect that. What I can't respect is when you say things that are not really offensive then you get ostracized for it.

shinoff218316d ago

What happened to just reporting people

NOMATICENIGMA16d ago

This is completely false, I tested this on my son's child account and mine, this is not Microsoft censoring they will censor swears but not the combination of letters I can prove this with a screenshot where I use all mentioned words in the article but do not know how to upload a picture.

NOMATICENIGMA16d ago

You can all continue your bashing, I was wrong someone explained to me this is a new policy, that's why it only happens for me in this brand new release. I'll try latter on ps to confirm but their response seemed informed wich leaves me rather worried for future censorship on my xbox.

CrimsonWing6916d ago

Geezus, Xbox, you get gifted gold and still f*ck things up.

NOMATICENIGMA16d ago

It's not xbox, go ahead start a chat with the youngest person on your friends list then say raid mass class sass said .... they do not censor any of these I even got away with R.Aids. sqaure on the other hand does.

CrimsonWing6916d ago

Does this affect PC and PS4/PS5 users, too? Or is it only happening on Xbox?
