GTA4 was the biggest borefest imo ever so that doesnt say much about our rating system, hopefully GTA5 isnt like that. Max Payne 3 was also far from amasterpiece although good. There is alot of bias in some of reviews towards bigger names and certain companies but thats not saying that GTA5 wont be awesome. Ill find out later when i get back from work. I just dont enjoy Rockstar games the way most say or do.

id be inclined to agree about GTA4. i didnt like it at all but for w/e reason, i like every other GTA starting with 3. its like this....

I have to admit GTA4 was a bore fest and people were sucked into the hype. I feel like the same is happening here. GTAV is amazing but I wouldn't go far and say it's the best game this gen.

Look I really hate the VGA's for this exact reason. The only games people want to win GOTY are exclusives because they want bragging rights to put down other peoples personal preferences.

And when it's not an exclusive, its to counter out the "oppositions" exclusive. VGA's just worsen this industry.

It all depends on what games you like to what has been the best. Ive never liked GTA games and could not get into RDR. COD was fun but not amazing too. The same with UC. For me Alan Wake has been the game ive enjoyed the most and kept me going back to it but its really down to you on what you like to what is your best game just like a film or album.

This generation was awesome. The indie games alone blow away any past generation. Quit viewing everything with nostalgia.

Gaming continues to get better and better. The hipsters can keep playing their 16 bit games forever if they really think things were so much better back then.

Oh, and PurpHerbison, I might very well be older than you and I think gaming is better than ever. I started gaming on the Atari 2600 and really got serious on the NES. I loved games through all of their evolution to what we have today, but games today are so much better.

I only go back to a handful of games out of pure nostalgia, but compared solely on their objective qualities games today are so much more refined and enjoyable. The craft of game making has matured over time and there really are much better game mechanics, narratives, animation, controls, and graphics in modern games.

User reviews are worthless. Too many fanboys and people with various biases and axes to grind.

That's why so many user review scores are either 0 or 10. (The 0s in particular are just pathetic; virtually no game deserves a 0).

Just because a game is a multiplat doesn't mean that people don't have horrible biases against certain franchises. Or fanboys might want to affect the score of a game that competes with an exclusive on their precious console of choice.

With all the zeros and tens being given, it really only comes down to which type of fanboy happens to end up reviewing the game more.

So, yeah, I don't put any stock into the user reviews.

I havent played GTA 5 yet so im gonna reserve my judgement as to whether of not "I like it". As for everyone who is screaming that its GOTY and its the best game of this generation, please keep in mind that this is the 5th numbered game in the serious and probably the 8-9th gta game overall. So the fact that people are evening mentioning a new IP like the last of us in the same breath as a well established franchise like GTA is an accomplishment in itself.

I really dislike people saying one game is much better than in other and forcing their opinions on to others as if it is the rule of thumb. Everyone is different and likes different things.

So my theory is to simply glance at metacritic if you're not sure about a game, ask a friend, or check out a few reviews to see if there were any large bugs.

I've enjoyed so many games that other people just couldn't get into. It happens all the time. People also buy games for different reasons. Maybe for speedruns, or maybe for a challenge, or maybe for a game to just chill and talk with friends. Who knows. But if you see a game you think you'll like, sure, read reviews but take their opinions with a grain of salt.

Having played Vice City on all possible devices that the game has ever been released on be it PS2,Xbox,PC, even android I say Vice City is NOT and average game. In fact it's third best GTA game right after San Andreas and V. I remember when I first played it at my cousins house on pc (back when I didn't have my own PC) I spend like 6 hours non stop and man my cousin was let's say angry.

I guess its an amazing game, but honestly I think TLOU deserves the title more, at least for this year. Disagree with me if you want but GTA is a safe franchise, all you need to do is take the already successful game, make it bigger, polish it better and add a few more things to make it better suited for this gen. There is no real big risks being taken but whatever...

I disagree, Have you played GTAV? It's not only bigger but the amount of polish is flawless for this game of this size.

And this proves that no matter what any dev says about maxing out a console potential, a little more can be squeezed out.

There is always more than one GOTY every year and I cant really say one is better than the other, but I do think that TLoU deserves it more for being a new IP for this gen.
GTA is great but its all the same with a bit more added to it every time.... Except GTAIV, that game actually took stuff out which bored the hell out of me...
