IGN - GTA V Review

Grand Theft Auto V is not only a preposterously enjoyable video game, but also an intelligent and sharp-tongued satire of contemporary America. It represents a refinement of everything that GTA IV brought to the table five years ago. It tells a compelling, unpredictable, and provocative story without ever letting it get in the way of your own self-directed adventures through San Andreas.

It is one of the very best video games ever made.

Uncharted 3 was definitely not a 10/10. Everyone has different opinions though. That's why I like Famitsu's rating system of 40. We'll just have to see if this is really a 10, looks up to snuf though

GTA IV's Graphics amazed us when it first came out, and most of us agreed with the 10/10 rating. however after a while many of us started realising that the gameplay was far more limited than the previous game in the series.

This time however, we have Seen that the gameplay is no were as limited as IV, and in many ways, less limited than San Andreas.

i feel weird because i'm not caught up in the GTA hype, so this isn't a big deal to me. i look at this the same way i look at past CoD launches (inb4 "but GTA is actually a great franchise", etc)--everybody goes crazy about it and rushes to midnight launches while the internet is overflowing with info about it. including countless 10/10 scores just like the last one. but i just see it as a good, sometimes great franchise, that's it. lol. i'll just wait a while, possibly for the inevitable PC version, play it then, and probably enjoy it. but i find it hard to get caught up in the frenzy over it.

@Hatsune -- Same here. GTA4 was fine, but it wasn't even in the top 20 of this gen for me and still stands as the most over-rated game of all time IMO. Between GTA4 and Skyrim (No reviewers noticed the freezing on the PS3 version? None? Really?), I have no confidence in reviews. When I'm even remotely on the fence about a game, I wait for user reviews.

Games that are hyped a lot do tend to get slightly inflated scores, but I hate how anytime a great game comes out and becomes successful the hipster contrarians show up and tell us how crappy it supposedly is.

This happens to movies, books and other forms of entertainment as well. Whenever something is successful there is a certain type of person who thinks it is cool to hate on that thing. Frankly, that kind of thinking is moronic.

Played the first 2-3 missions.

So far I like it. It has it's own feel but the driving is definitely not as fun as GTA4. It's not as realistic.

Actually, sometimes it is, but I'd say 70% of the time it's not as good, and then all of the sudden it drives like GTA 4 for a bit and then starts driving less realistic after that.

Hard to explain but you will see. Everything else is nice though, saw a few pop-ins during opening , other then that it's fun so far, I'm glad I went to midnight launch.

Yeah and lets not forget the fanboy goggle reviewers that are prolly just hyped over the next entry in the series.
TLOU as an all new IP did awesome with just about no unconditional sheep factor at all.
People mostly saw the game for what it was during the trailers, presentations and hands on time, but GTA have such a widespread resume that just the name is almost a full score guaranty.

The extreme hype for GTA V is hilarious.
But I can tell its way better than GTA IV on many fronts so Ill check it out. Not going to say it is a shit game or anything until Ive played it. BUT IV was crap IMO.

I'm gonna wait for PC version (I dont own 360/ps3). I want to enjoy that game in its full glory. I'm 90% sure it will be on PC, and if not ill buy a cheap used xbox360 after xb1/ps4 came out :) I guess i'll do that anyway for RDR and Forza.
Or would you rather go with a ps3 (i already played TLOU!)? Give me some arguments guys!

BTW: They lost me as a customer for ps4 or xb1 because of no backwards compatibility (and no possible gaikai streaming doesnt count, because there is no info on it. Who knows if that will be available in my country and my network connection...)

I've looked around sites for this info but couldn't find it...has it been confirmed that there is a list of certain cars to find and steal and get it to a certain garage like in previous games? That was always one of my favorite things to do, hunting down the cars on the list. Thx for any info!

I highly doubt that this game will have the same value of The Last of Us. Don't get me wrong, GTA is a fun game to play with a bunch of friends over to cause mayhem, but to be honest I have never really liked a GTA game for it's story, or the real gameplay, meaning missions and whatnot. I may be wrong, as i have yet to play this game. Hopefully it's something different.

I played through it twice. GTA only has replayability cause its an open world game, where you can mindlessly drive or kill people or do basically whatever you want. The Last of Us doesnt have this luxury of being an open world game. I highly doubt that many people have gone throught the same GTA story more than once. Also, i highly enjoyed TLOU's multiplayer, it was differnent from anything else i played and always left me wanting to be better than my opponents, therefore having me come back for more.

I agree the people above me.Critics will always make sure and over look any flaws games like this have to hand it a perfect score many times in fear of the backlash they will get if they say otherwise.It's only later when enough people have brought it and the excitement dies down then they will sneak in with articles about what is wrong with GTA 5 and what could have been better and why it isn't a perfect game.That isn't saying GTA 5 won't be a good game but all the flaws that sensible people notice will be shouted down by most gamers and be told to shut up or that you have no idea what you are saying.That is what people like Yahzee are here for because they don't give a crap about what you think and will say what needs to be said no matter how much people piss and moan and cry.They said GTA4 was a perfect game too.Yeah as long as you ignore the annoying things about it and the fact that it was nowhere near as fun as the others.
