IGN - GTA V Review

Grand Theft Auto V is not only a preposterously enjoyable video game, but also an intelligent and sharp-tongued satire of contemporary America. It represents a refinement of everything that GTA IV brought to the table five years ago. It’s technically more accomplished in every conceivable way, but it’s also tremendously ambitious in its own right. No other world in video games comes close to this in size or scope, and there is sharp intelligence behind its sense of humour and gift for mayhem. It tells a compelling, unpredictable, and provocative story without ever letting it get in the way of your own self-directed adventures through San Andreas.

It is one of the very best video games ever made.

Tomorrow can't come fast enough!!

Hatsune-Miku3873d ago

Im quite sure this game is good but after their review of gta 4 which in my opinion wasnt a good game, I dont take this review seriously

Lovable3873d ago

@Hatsune

This will be the same thing. People rave it like the second coming of Christ then after a month or two, everyone's going to say its overrated like they did with GTA4. Bunch of hypocrites.

NukaCola3873d ago

Rockstar is the best 3rd party studio in the business and they did it again. Game to end a generation right. Only hours to go!

Daver3873d ago

@Hatsune, Lovable

I agree too, GTA 4 was not a 10/10. I dont doubt GTA 5 is better tho but is it Worth a perfect 10?

Blastoise3873d ago

@Lovable

To be fair GTAV looks like it's improved a lot over GTAIV. It's got it's sense of humour and fun back

crxss3872d ago

Uncharted 3 was definitely not a 10/10. Everyone has different opinions though. That's why I like Famitsu's rating system of 40. We'll just have to see if this is really a 10, looks up to snuf though

Gazondaily3872d ago

"No other world in video games comes close to this in size or scope, and there is sharp intelligence behind its sense of humour and gift for mayhem."

That's Rockstar for you right there. Bring on Tuesday!

Yardie3872d ago

GTA IV's Graphics amazed us when it first came out, and most of us agreed with the 10/10 rating. however after a while many of us started realising that the gameplay was far more limited than the previous game in the series.

This time however, we have Seen that the gameplay is no were as limited as IV, and in many ways, less limited than San Andreas.

i feel weird because i'm not caught up in the GTA hype, so this isn't a big deal to me. i look at this the same way i look at past CoD launches (inb4 "but GTA is actually a great franchise", etc)--everybody goes crazy about it and rushes to midnight launches while the internet is overflowing with info about it. including countless 10/10 scores just like the last one. but i just see it as a good, sometimes great franchise, that's it. lol. i'll just wait a while, possibly for the inevitable PC version, play it then, and probably enjoy it. but i find it hard to get caught up in the frenzy over it.

theEx1Le3872d ago

I agree, been messing around on my ps3 for hours and done a few story missions. Exceeded all my expectations so far.

Philoctetes3872d ago

@Hatsune -- Same here. GTA4 was fine, but it wasn't even in the top 20 of this gen for me and still stands as the most over-rated game of all time IMO. Between GTA4 and Skyrim (No reviewers noticed the freezing on the PS3 version? None? Really?), I have no confidence in reviews. When I'm even remotely on the fence about a game, I wait for user reviews.

guitarded773872d ago

10's!!! 10's EVERYWHERE!!!

Looks like The Last of Us will have some competition for GOTY after all. Can't wait to get my copy :D

nix3872d ago

hatsune... i totally agree... after what the GTAIV got and what the game was like... i'd take every review with a grain of salt.

JarqueMcLark3872d ago

Three hours and the game of the year is mine! http://gamewise.co/games/17...

starchild3872d ago (Edited 3872d ago )

@Hatsune-Miku

Games that are hyped a lot do tend to get slightly inflated scores, but I hate how anytime a great game comes out and becomes successful the hipster contrarians show up and tell us how crappy it supposedly is.

This happens to movies, books and other forms of entertainment as well. Whenever something is successful there is a certain type of person who thinks it is cool to hate on that thing. Frankly, that kind of thinking is moronic.

get_real3872d ago

@Hatsune, you are right and as for 10/10 well all that budget didn't just go into game development now did it ?

Shaaunyb3872d ago

Was released 1/2 hours ago here and i'm stuck at work so can't go get it -.-

IRON883 3872d ago

Just awesome god I can't wait anymore!

3-4-53872d ago (Edited 3872d ago )

Played the first 2-3 missions.

So far I like it. It has it's own feel but the driving is definitely not as fun as GTA4. It's not as realistic.

Actually, sometimes it is, but I'd say 70% of the time it's not as good, and then all of the sudden it drives like GTA 4 for a bit and then starts driving less realistic after that.

Hard to explain but you will see. Everything else is nice though, saw a few pop-ins during opening , other then that it's fun so far, I'm glad I went to midnight launch.

More interested in money than giving fans what they want. Such a shame

CrimsonWing691d 1h ago

With the amount of money they generated, I just don’t understand the scrubbing of this. It would’ve been fantastic for fans.

Profchaos23h ago

I really want to know who drove the decision to focus on multiplayer was it Rockstar or take two.

Because when online started taking off many of the studio leads began having falling outs and leading including a founder

Demetrius12h ago

Ikr mfs that greedy it's ridiculous

andy8522h ago

This makes me sad. Trevor was one of my favourite characters in gaming

Demetrius12h ago

One of the reason I believe once gta 6 release, most of us thoroughly play it, enjoy the world they crafted then after that no offline support, no dlc at all
