Don't gimp my PS4 versions

We have seen several sources from developers and in the fact sheet that the PS4 is more powerful than the Xbox One. That is not a question, and it doesn't what matter they do, MS cannot match the performance of the PS4. MS got cloud you say? Well, PS4 has cloud too that can be used for A.I., physics and so on; doesn't need azure.

http://www.polygon.com/2013...

From reports that the PS4 is 50% faster, therefore is more powerful:

"Our contacts have told us that memory reads on PS4 are 40-50 per cent quicker than Xbox One, and its ALU (Arithmetic Logic Unit) is around 50 per cent faster. One basic example we were given suggested that without optimisation for either console, a platform-agnostic development build can run at around 30FPS in 1920×1080 on PS4, but it’ll run at “20-something” FPS in 1600×900 on Xbox One. “Xbox One is weaker and it’s a pain to use its ESRAM,” concluded one developer."

Various developers also mention the PS4 is much easier to develop for:

"There’s no learning curve for developers to take advantage of that hardware because it’s x86.
When asking developers what their experiences have been so far with software, the commentary shifted dramatically in Sony’s favor."

"So on the ease-of-use side, the architecture employs a 256-bit bus and GDDR5 memory, a combination that provides 176 gigabytes per second of bandwidth; this set up allows straightforward programming techniques to result in impressive graphics, without the need for highly specialized coding.

Developers have praised the PS4's Development and Power, there any hardly much news for the Xbox One in regard to this. There are reports that both companies are working on their drivers, but let's face it, MS updates their drivers so will SONY, they can't catch up at all.

From all this, I do not see why the PS4 version of all multi-platform games will not be the superior version. These games for PC aren't held back in power, gimped, so why would it be like that for consoles? The company and us owners of the system, want you to use all the power from the console, and give us the best experience as you can. I don't want you holding anything back, if a manufacture created parts for a Lamborghini and a BMW, why in the world will they lower the performance for parts of the Lamborghini to match the BMW's power? It's not right and limiting it's potential; plus imagine the backlash they will get. This gen the PS4 is much easier to develop for and has vastly greater power performance. There is no excuse that the PS4 version of games should not be noticeably superior, DO NOT GIMP MY VERSIONS. Blame the maker of the other console if it can't match the quality of the superior hardware, it's their fault, don't make the gamers suffer with lower quality games, and since we are about to start the new generation of consoles, show the gamers that the PS4 versions will be the best console version to entice them even further to get the PS4, and not worry about much consumers not getting the best experience since most will have the PS4.

"One source even suggested that enforcing parity across consoles could become a political issue between platform holders, developers and publishers. They said that it could damage perceptions of a cross platform title, not to mention Xbox One, if the PS4 version shipped with an obviously superior resolution and framerate; better to “castrate” the PS4 version and release near-identical games to avoid ruffling any feathers."

This better not happen, if it does, I am not getting the game, or just buy is used; mostly what I will do. So they won't get a penny, unless there is some online code I got pay, better $5-10 than $60. If they don't to want worry about how much power they show off, then make a Wii U version or game; people expect lower performance output. I know the majority of you agree with me. DO NOT GIMP THE PS4 VERSIONS. It will be such a shame to have these games not show-off their full potential because they are holding back on purpose. To me that is having the game incomplete, you could have done more, but you didn't. You just settle for less, and just have us deal with it. No, I'm not going to go through with that. Give us the best game you can make. Show off the PS4's power and potential, DO NOT GIMP MY PS4 VERSIONS!!

What scares me is that one BS Microsoft publishing policy:
"Titles for Xbox 360...must have at least feature and content parity on-disc with the other video game platform versions in all regions where the title is available"

I could totally see MS muscling publishers into gimping PS4 versions with a liberal interpretation of "feature parity"

PopRocks3593874d ago

It's certainly possible, but given the publicity nightmare Microsoft's game division has suffered even before this thing was formally named probably spells out a different picture this generation.

Microsoft: You do THIS for our versions.

Dev: Why? PS4 is selling better than yours is. We don't need you THAT much.

That's just how I see it playing out though.

majiebeast3874d ago

Yeah if Microsoft doesnt get a major lead or any lead then they cant strong arm devs to hold back PS4 ports.

Nicaragua3874d ago

even if MS sells half as many consoles as sony they will still end up with around 40 million consoles on the market, and developers will want a slice of that pie - even if it means making compromises.

The only way Sony will be able to strong arm MS is if PS4 does PS2 numbers, and i dont see that happening.

SilentNegotiator3874d ago (Edited 3874d ago )

Even if it sells better on PS4, that doesn't mean One sales aren't going to be a significant portion of the sales.

They will comply if MS stands firm.

-Foxtrot3874d ago

Totally Agree

As I've said in my comment below, the more devs who stick to their guns and end up releasing their game only for the PS4/PC then the more people will buy PS4's...the more people who buy PS4's will result in a bigger install base. Over time developers will end up, slowly in the beginning, earning their money back they would of lost by not releasing it on the Xbox One. Microsoft would have hardly no third party support on their consoles and would probably have to end up buying the developers love to dumb down their games for the console. Whether they would do remains to be seen but you could see a future like the PS1/PS2 days where games like Final Fantasy, Devil May Cry, Tomb Raider, Metal Gear Solid, Grand Theft Auto etc were all exclusives on a Sony console.

I wish devs would realise this, they need to take a chance, once a dev does and Microsoft refuses to budge then it would start a chain reaction with more and more devs doing it. Over a few years MS would have nothing...and for what stubbornness

xXxSeTTriPxXx3874d ago

Yeah, but the ps4 would have to sell significantly better for that to happen.

They'll make concession to the policy especially for the big devs. They've done it with activision (goldeneye 007) and ea (battlefield 3). Eventually with the ps4 looking to be the bigger platform, devs might just do what they did to nintendo in the early 90s and support the other console until microsoft change their policies.

s45gr323874d ago

I wish that were true but Microsoft unlike Nintendo has deep pockets of money, it also doesn't help that they own direct x due to it can prevent developers from releasing the PC version at its full potential content, etc.

-Foxtrot3874d ago (Edited 3874d ago )

Don't you think though that high up developers like Rockstar have one over Microsoft, especially as of late with more people favouring the PS4. I mean MS needs those developers more then they need them.

Do you really think next gen that, for example, Rockstar's GTA6 or Red Dead 3 would be turned down because they've admitted the PS4 version has better content, is better and needs to dumb down the Xbox version (this is to Microsoft by the way behind closed doors...not to the press). Kind of like...

"Yeah sorry but we find we can do more stuff with the PS4, you'll still get the game for your console but be aware that you won't be getting the best verison, we just feel if we can do more for gamers and give them better experiences this gen regardless of the platform then we'll do it"

Like MS is really going to turn down something like Red Dead 2, GTA6, Elder Scrolls 6, Battlefield 5, The next Batman game, Fallout 4, new Bioshock, new MGS, Assassins Creed 5 etc

Come on why would they turn down those types of games. If they refuse them access to their console then people will just buy more PS4s and in the future where most gamers have gotten a PS4 for those games the developers would be making the money back they've lost eventually because more people are buying PS4s and buying their games with it.

Most developers who make AAA games have the upper hand, I wish they'd realise that.

SilentNegotiator3874d ago

And what about games that AREN'T anywhere near as big as games from Bethesda, Rockstar, etc?

-Foxtrot3873d ago

@SilentNegotiator

Well at first they will have to go along with Microsoft's policies but when the big developers start off a trend they will finally be able to skip the Xbox One because they know there is an even bigger fanbase on the PC/PS4 now.

Big developers have to go first since they are the ones who have the upper hand.

ABizzel13874d ago

It only becomes an issue if the consoles are selling neck and neck (1 - 5 million difference). If one console breaks away on a 10+ million lead then:

If it's the PlayStation it will be lead SKU's and games will be ported down to XB1, and M$ will either have to #dealwithit or worry about the game being a PlayStation exclusives (which is likely to be EVERY HD "Japanese Style" game since XB brand has no foothold there).

If it's the XB1, then yes all games will be in parity with one another, because no dev. wants to risk losing XB1 sales. And again if the sales are neck and neck then the games will be in parity as well.

100% agree. This won't be much of a problem from Japanese devs, seeing as their games barely sell on the Xbox platform. Like FFXV, because SE is developing it on a level that both consoles aren't capable of and then directly ported down to them, it'll be very easy to differentiate the PS4 and XBO versions and which one can replicate the original version.
But western devs? Oh hell yes.
Hopefully like Poprocks said, I don't think it'll be that bad since the PS4 will have a significantly larger install base, but we need to make sure devs don't gimp the PS4 versions.

xKugo3872d ago (Edited 3872d ago )

I noticed you talked about FFXV being on a level neither console is capabale of. I'm a newly initiated PC gamer(4770k CPU upclocked to 4.1Ghz and EVGA GTX 780) and that tidbit suggest the game is being developed on a PC. I'm a pretty big Final Fantasy and the prospect of it coming to PC is great, so if you have any news that most don't know about, could you perhaps share some of that information?

Thanks :)

sweetSWAGGER3874d ago

This goes back to that article that discussed just about the same thing, but from a different angle. In it, the author pointed out that with the current gen; the PS3 was incredibly hard to develop for and take advantage of, and at the same time it was far more expensive and came out much later than Xbox 360. Therefore, not only would it have been a hassle for multiplatform devs to unlock PS3's full potential, it would seem like a waste of time because the Xbox 360 had the bigger, more popular install base (at least for the time).

However, with this new generation Sony's PS4 is the console that's not only coming out first, it's also much cheaper than the Xbox One, which will ensure the more popular install base. So, the dilemma that developers used to face between the current gen consoles should no longer apply.

Godmars2903874d ago

By the very nature of the task devs with multiplatforming in mind will never try to get the most out of one platform. That's been a fundamental fault of the current console generation.

And still there were instances where they couldn't even find performance balance with either PS3 or 360 games.

Yodagamer3874d ago (Edited 3874d ago )

Game consoles have almost always developed for the weakest link first especially when it comes to big devs. It's almost always the best way to get equal performance on both consoles.

SilentNegotiator3874d ago

But they often manage to have a version with AA and a version without, versions with different native resolutions, higher/lower textures, etc, etc.

Software_Lover3874d ago

OMG you people are a mess. I could do an entire sociological paper and study on this site.

puntthor3874d ago

i agree! i used go on this website like everyday thinking it was cool but now i regret wasting so much time on it :/

dantesparda3874d ago (Edited 3874d ago )

@software

You're the "mess", you're acting like this crazy talk and doesnt happen. When its already happening, and everybody knows it. You're naive and delusional, and who's puntthor, your other account?
