i pretty much confimed this in a comment in march, and i used microsofts "mysterious and unplanned" event in april that came out of nowhere Right after sony confirmed the ps4's launch. i knew they werent really ready, the shadyness of that even spoke volumes about the state of the xboxone.

This isn't much of a shocker. For the past few months M$ has been focused on catching up to the PS4's specs. Even though I plan on only getting a PS4 at the next-gen launch. For any launch day XBone consumers I hope this article is wrong.

I'm a little skeptical of any news piece that doesn't site a reputable source. Is this an indie developer? Is it a larger developer? We have no idea who is saying this and when. What driver isn't available? Both systems use the same basic chip design custom made by AMD.

Perhaps the middleware is incomplete? This makes perfect sense since middleware is constantly evolving. It took years for the PS3's middleware to get to a point where games looked and played the same on both systems.

As for Microsoft being rushed, how do you justify this when AMD manufactured both systems basic architecture. These consoles have been in development for quite some time. Microsoft has had games running on pre-production consoles for awhile now at the events they have been attending. How are people still saying they are playing on PC's?

I don't think the competition is going to survive this round. Sony and PlayStation are truly going to be the only two names we keep this gen. Microsoft has its goose cooked. Nintendo doesn't even have a goose... And Sony is now the only goose laying golden eggs. Next gen we will see someone new or old step up to The PlayStation brand.

I remember a few years ago, long before PS4 was announced but its existence was becoming inevitable, Sony repeated one thing about any possible new console.

They said over and over, WE WILL NOT BE OUT LAST.

They knew that that huge delay really hurt PS3 initially, it really hurt their potential allowing rivals to get traction for a whole year. They weren't going to let that happen again.

Sony are basically taking an eraser over their previous mistakes and rubbing them out one by one.

PR disasters- Banished.
Arrogance to the consumer- Gone.
Complicated hardware- Cerny's loveletter to devs
Difficult dev tools- Fixed.
Late to market- Ready to roll.

Its incredible how the tables have turned. I love seeing new consoles release and evolve.

Microsoft have limited time to get their house in order, they need to be cracking heads together and getting on with it because it could turn real ugly real quick this Holiday season if they don't.

A lot of the games seen have be running on actual PS4 dev kits while Xbone titles have been running on crazy PC hardware.

Before dev kits and de-bug units are available, development starts on PC's. It's not uncommon to see unfinished code running on these PC's. When we see early software at a show it is typically run on a debug unit which resembles the finished console. Dev kits are rarely at a show due to cost and the fact most showing is on debug units or PC's if it is early in the consoles development.

Funny how everyone here say ps4 is 50% more powerful ad MS drivers also suck but then XO games actually look better so far. There is a storm coming this month. Only Top third party devs got final dev box this month with stereo gpus unlocked that's why more and more games on XO start suddenly popping in full HD and better framerates. Host and Guest stereo gpus and dpus, that's what it is.

As I stated in a post a couple days ago, Mark Cerney the lead developer of the PS4 has stated that it will take developers years before they can fully utilize the power of the ps4. Why? because of all the customizations they did. Why do you people think that only the xbox has these customizations is beyond me.

Unlike microsoft sony isn't trying to convince anyone of anything hence the lack of focus on sony. Even if all those exaggerated rumors are true it wouldn't be microsoft alone that will be using hidden aces, the problem is that with both of them doing special customizations, microsoft is still doing it on weaker hardware. How exactly are you reasoning that that will put microsoft ahead?

This does not surprise me in the slightest.. Microsoft rushed out the 360 and we all know what happened. A majority of the 360 consoles broke down with the dreaded RROD which plagued the first batch of consoles sold. I've always wondered why MS released the 360 a year earlier than Sony's PS4. Perhaps MS worried about Sony's console shipping with innovative hardware such as the built in blu-ray player which gave us a new media format that dominated HDDVD.

PS2 gave us the DVD, PS3 gave us Blu-ray... Perhaps MS were well within there right to worry what Sony had planned.

I bet with PS4 around the corner Microsoft are crapping themselves... Playstation dominance is back and Sony have always been about great hardware whilst Microsoft have always been about the software but with the terrible Window 8 release among other things I can't help but wonder if Microsoft are now constantly playing catch up with everyone else.

I reckon if 360 came out at the same time as PS3 then 360 would have probably suffered lower sales.

I would say that I agree with you more than I disagree. I think their PR would have had a much easier time building hype and explaining policies if they launched at least a year after the PS4.

It's the same thing I said when I found out the PS3 was launching in 2006. It didn't feel ready, and the blabbering PR disaster they had along with it only highlighted that fact.

In both cases, they would have had plenty of catching up to do in terms of sales, but it saves them the embarrassment and sense of urgency that the PS3 and XBO seemed to have just before launch. Now it looks as if MS has two major issues: going head to head with the PlayStation (which they tried to avoid at all costs this gen) and they aren't the favorites or "underdogs" like they were with the 360.

Titanfall is coming to PC, X360 and the X1 so not really a negative there that it was demoed on PC when it is actually coming to PC,

the Xbox one's cpu/gpu are manufactured using the 29nm process so it highly likely the x1 would over heat(PROD)

Beside, why else would MS increase the clock speed if they knew it was going to result to PROD.

To add the that, the 29nm chip uses 3d structure on the die, not 2d structure like the ps3/xbox which means the heat sink sitting on top of the chips would do a much better job at dissipating the heat.

That facts are the facts.

Both PS4 and X1 cpu/gpu are build using the 29nm process. That why MS/Sony were able to increase the clock speed of their console in the first place.

Also being that the PS4/X1 are using chips that are build using 3d structure on the die the transistors are tightly structured close together. also the transistors are structured next to each other so the heat sink will absorb the heat much more efficiently than the 2d chip.

I played and took pictures at gamestop expo and all ms games i saw were on there machine not pc. One of the boxes was open and setting in a famy room enviroment where i got to listen to it and play many games on it. It was a black box at all stations in las vegas.

I'm done holding out any hope for the XBOne. MS should have delayed the launch of the console a year to fix all their errors and be ready. What I take away from MS is they want to sell me a Kinect with the console as the accessory. If they put half the energy and thought into developing the console as they did the Kinect they wouldn't be in the mess they are now.

The article insinuates at the end that no game is running on Xbox One. I am pretty certain that Forza 5, Ryse and Dead Rising 3 have already been seen running on Xbox One hardware at recent public events - and visually they certainly impress.

I don't doubt that there's troubles for third-parties, and that PS4 will ultimately be easier to adapt games for based on it being the equivalent of a decent gaming PC by today's standards.

I wouldn't rule out Microsoft just yet though, as we can see from their exclusives, they are running on Xbox One hardware and they look impressive - I don't think anyone is disputing that fact.

Third-parties may have more bother as they adapt for various platforms, so PC and PS4 must be a dream come true for them, however from what I've been reading, Xbox One's addition of esRAM is not unlike that seen in Xbox 360, so I would expect once the tools are in place that development should breeze along. Admittedly it does leave us in an odd predicament for launch titles though, as sacrifices may yet be made to just get the games launched - which may very well go in Sony's favour, and with pricing and hardware, they already have a significant advantage as is.
