Xbox One Unity tools won't be "widely available" till 2014, clarifies CEO

Unity CEO David Helgason has revealed to OXM that Unity game creation tools for OXM won't, in fact, be "widely available" to developers till 2014, though they will be made available to certain developers as part of early testing this year.

Wow, 9 comments all removed because of 1 Spam. Ok.

Anyway, why is it that Microsoft always has to clarify things lately. Save yourself work and just be upfront the first time you announce something.

Anon19743868d ago

It was the Unity head, David Helgason, clarifying. It sounds like the tools will be there this year, as he originally stated, just not available for everyone. As I mentioned below, it sounds the same as what they're doing for the PS4/PSVita plugins at the moment.

Fanboy grow up and move on nothing for you here

DragonKnight3868d ago

Oh look, an Xbox fanboy troll account. Created 2 days ago, nothing but Xbox fanboy trolling for those 2 days. Alternate account most likely. You'll be gone soon, you sure you want to waste your time being an obvious troll?

Death3868d ago

If you would take the time and read the articles instead of police the forums calling out anyone that disagrees with you as a troll, you might see that Microsoft isn't Unity. The Unity CEO is the one that had to clearify the release date. No company can be completely "upfront" with an announcement. Sony recently announced VitaTv. Days later they had to clearify and say it isn't available outside of Japan. I would imagine over time they will have to clearify again and announce it is available elsewhere.

DragonKnight3868d ago

Speaking about taking the time to read, you'd have seen that the first reply to me already took care of what you wasted your time to write to me if you read any but my comments. Having fun following me around are you?

Death3868d ago

My reply was to your initial comment. I missed the comment where you were trolling after that. Maybe it was flaming. It's not really clear since you seem to troll, flame and abuse others so much.

Either way, that is besides the point. Here's the linked stories first sentence. "Unity CEO David Helgason has revealed to OXM that Unity game creation tools for Xbox One won't, in fact, be "widely available" to developers till 2014" He then goes on to talk about how he mispoke earlier this year.

I apologize for making the assumption you didn't read the story. Appearantly you simply couldn't comprehend it since you stated Microsoft needs to be more clear and straight forward when in fact the story is about Unity.

I appreciate you clarifying it.

"My reply was to your initial comment. I missed the comment where you were trolling after that. Maybe it was flaming. It's not really clear since you seem to troll, flame and abuse others so much."

I think you're mistaking me for yourself Mr. Off Topic Troll comments. And it's funny, of all the members there are on this site, only a similar few repeat the same things, and only after they start initiating conversation with me in the most sarcastic, or trolling, or offensive way possible.

As for the rest of your comment, you still apparently can't read as you'd see that right underneath my very first comment is darkride86's comment saying, and I quote, "It was the Unity head, David Helgason, clarifying."

So again, you're wasting everyone's time with your presence here. As usual.

Death3868d ago

This my friend would be considered off-topic in a story about Unity tools:

"Oh look, an Xbox fanboy troll account. Created 2 days ago, nothing but Xbox fanboy trolling for those 2 days. Alternate account most likely. You'll be gone soon, you sure you want to waste your time being an obvious troll?"

It would also be considered flaming, abusive, and trolling. If you would like to complain about the moderation here and point out trolls, you need only look at your own posting habits. The moderators seem very tolerant of your posts. I'm not sure what more you want from them, from what I have seen they seem more than fair.

I am glad you seen darkrides spot on post about this not being a Microsoft issue like you had hoped. Had you responded to that I would have read it and not restated the facts. I do appreciate you taking the time to let me know you seen his and my posts.

Back on topic, the Unity tools will surely be appreciated when they release next year. I am sure you are looking forward to the results as much as the rest of us.

DragonKnight3868d ago

"This my friend would be considered off-topic in a story about Unity tools."

Convenient that you don't mention the off topic comment I was replying to. Of course you wouldn't given that the poster is a fellow Xbox fanboy.

"It would also be considered flaming, abusive, and trolling."

Actually no it wouldn't.

Flaming: An online argument that becomes nasty or derisive, where insulting a party to the discussion takes precedence over the objective merits of one side or another

There was no argument, it wasn't nasty, and unless you consider Xbox Fanboy an insult (which I'm sure you would considering) then there were none of those. There was also nothing that took precedence over the objective merits of one side or another since there was no argument.

Abusive: Characterized by insulting or coarse language. Characterized by improper or wrongful use.

No coarse language was used. I refer you to what I said about the consideration of Xbox Fanboy being an insult. And there was nothing that could be used improperly or wrongfully.

Trolling: Being a prick on the internet because you can. Typically unleashing one or more cynical or sarcastic remarks on an innocent by-stander.

Actually sounds a lot like you doesn't it? It also sounds exactly like the comment the troll account made to me as well. The account is 2 days old and filled with Xbox fanboy troll comments so I responded with facts in response to an off topic troll comment made to me. Wouldn't be surprised if it's your alternate account actually.

"If you would like to complain about the moderation here and point out trolls, you need only look at your own posting habits. The moderators seem very tolerant of your posts. I'm not sure what more you want from them, from what I have seen they seem more than fair."

I'm not complaining about the moderation here, and I don't want anything from them. I know how moderation works here and you bringing up the fact that I called you out for your troll comment on another article as a complaint shows incredible ignorance. I doubt you know how this site works, but I do so if I had something to complain about it wouldn't be that you weren't rightly marked for being a troll.

"I am glad you seen darkrides spot on post about this not being a Microsoft issue like you had hoped. Had you responded to that I would have read it and not restated the facts. I do appreciate you taking the time to let me know you seen his and my posts."

"Like you had hoped" Lol, listen to the venom in that. You have nowhere to go so you go right into fanboy defense mode. Too funny. I also don't care what you want to restate or comment on. You're not important in the least.

"I am sure you are looking forward to the results as much as the rest of us"

Why?

Death3868d ago

Why wouldn't you be looking forward to the result that Unity will bring? This is an article about the Unity tools and the Xbox One to a degree since it is about the release of the tools for the Xbox One. If you aren't looking forward to the release and are wrongfully blaming Microsoft for their lack of clearity on the matter, then why are you here?

If anyone here reads my posts and feel that I come off even close to how you intentionally do, I do want to apologize. I enjoy coming to N4G and seeing the different sides to each story and learning a thing or two on the way.

DragonKnight3868d ago

"Why wouldn't you be looking forward to the result that Unity will bring?"

Allow me to elaborate. Why do you think you know me well enough to say what I'm looking forward to or not?

"If anyone here reads my posts and feel that I come off even close to how you intentionally do, I do want to apologize. I enjoy coming to N4G and seeing the different sides to each story and learning a thing or two on the way."

Now you're patronizing everyone on N4G. Lol. Not only are you being abusive, offensive, and a troll based on YOUR definition in the above quote, but then you want to post a phony apology to people who will see through it in less than a second? Keep trying Death, keep trying.

That's how they're doing it now with the PS4/PSVita Unity tools. Unity doesn't have the option online to "Pay $1000 for the PS4 license and Unity Plugin!" like they do with their Android or iOS dev plugins. You have to be a Sony developer, then Sony will verify with Unity that you're a dev and then Unity will make arrangements to get you the add-on necessary for development using Unity, and then Unity stresses these addons are still beta.

I imagine the process will be the same for Unity development for the Xbox One. Fantastic news though. Having Unity plugins available for both consoles should make porting for indie developers a breeze. That's my hope, anyway. Can't wait to turn my team loose on the new tools. :)

Exclusive: Unity Software cutting 25% of staff in ‘company reset’ continuation

Jan 8 (Reuters) - Videogame software provider Unity Software (U.N) will target laying off approximately 25% of its workforce, or 1,800 jobs, the company said in a regulatory filing and internal company memo on Monday.

anast97d ago

They wanted everyone to move to Unreal 5 and GoDot 4.

UltimateOwnage97d ago

What a waste. And despite all of this cut and slash, their polices are doubling down on what led to all of this. They have committed themselves to bring a losing brand going forward. Good riddance. Maybe Microsoft will buy them out, they seem to have a lot in common.

Unity Software to cut 3.8% of staff in 'company reset'

Videogame software provider Unity Software will eliminate 265 jobs or 3.8% of its global workforce and end an agreement with a digital video effects company founded by the "Lord of the Rings" director as part of a "reset," the company said on Tuesday.

Ubi is soft and there executive group is trash

BeHunted138d ago

This has nothing to do with Ubisoft

shadowknight203138d ago

The percentage is lower compared to recent layoffs we been hearing. But still 265 jobs is quite a number.

Chocoburger138d ago

The executives make obviously terrible decisions, then their profits drop, and it's the work force that suffers because of it.

recoctimocassirnff138d ago

Exactly. It's never the idiot executives that suffer the consequences of their idiot actions, it's always the talented people that actually make the product.

Chocoburger137d ago

Indeed, imagine being a good employee, then losing your job because the executives screw things up while also paying themselves yearly bonuses.

Disgusting.

FinalFantasyFanatic137d ago

It really should be the executives that get their pay docked or miss out on bonuses for shockingly bad decisions, it's absolute BS that it doesn't ever happen (and then they blame everyone but themselves).

Unity has announced a round of layoffs and the closure of Weta Digital, after it decided to end its agreement with Peter Jackson's Weta FX. The layoffs will impact 265 employees, a total of 3.8% of its workforce, Reuters reports.

Back in December 2021, Unity acquired a part of Peter Jackson's Weta Digital, including "Weta Digital's tools, pipeline, technology, and engineering talent" in a deal worth $1.625 billion. The remainder of Weta Digital remained under Jackson's ownership and rebranded to Weta FX, with the company maintaining an agreement to use Weta Digital's tools and services.

Now, Unity says it has terminated the professional services part of this agreement, which will result in the layoffs of 265 employees involved in the agreement. Weta FX issued a statement to FX Guide, saying it would be looking to re-hire as much of the Weta Digital team as possible. Unity will retain ownership of the tools it acquired, and they will remain readily available for Weta FX to use.
