Microsoft's own next-generation version of Apple's Siri is called 'Cortana'

Microsoft is working on its 'Cortana' rival to Apple's Siri and Google Now, which will be integrated into all flavors of Windows in the future.

Snookies123869d ago

Lol, that's pretty funny. In a good way.

Anon19743869d ago (Edited 3869d ago )

That's fantastic.

I don't do any development on Windows Phones so I rather need my Android device for testing, but I won't lie, for the first time this makes me want a Windows phone.

shivvy243869d ago

This is actually awesome !

spicelicka3869d ago

That's so awesome, imagine if she throws in subliminal halo references, or goes rampant for a few seconds here n there, it would just be so cool (as long as she's not actually rampant and destroying your device lol).

mewhy323869d ago

Well I have to admit that's pretty awesome.

ShinMaster3869d ago

People have Windows Phones?

P0werVR3869d ago (Edited 3869d ago )

Is Cortana the future AI threat of the human race?! O.o

Is she going to have an army of sentient beings taking over the universe??

KILL HER NOW WHILE WE HAVE THE CHANCE!

POWAH OF DA CLOUD!!

I'd rather have Jarvis from Iron Man.

"Power at 400% capacity."

Big_B0SS3869d ago (Edited 3869d ago )

Psss...KITT from Knight Rider says hi.

nukeitall3869d ago

@SITH:

That is such an ironic statement. You can never exceed capacity, if you do, that is the capacity!

Hence, you can never achieve more than 100% capacity!

PSVita3869d ago (Edited 3869d ago )

Calm down nukeitall.. it was a quote from a fictional superhero movie...

Campy da Camper3869d ago

I'd rather have Wheatley from Portal2. Snyde attitude and all.

Gekko363868d ago

@Big_B0SS HAHA, love it!

KITT's voice sounded like the voice of an evil peadophile demon!

Yeah that's some straight up fan service. MS taking some ques from the Japanese, nice.

Siri - "is that Halo? I didn't see that coming"

Cortana - "that's because your stupid, everyone knows Halo is all things Microsoft"

Siri - "Oh dear your rude"

Cortana - "wah go cry in a Starbucks corner"

Siri "?"

KillerPigeon3869d ago

Are you suggesting that both Microsoft and Apple are illiterate, and incapable of using 'your' and 'you're' in the correct context?

Big_B0SS3869d ago

@Killer Pigio - Whu U so mean?

SilentNegotiator3869d ago (Edited 3869d ago )

Where's all of the outrage about Microsoft ripping off Apple? If this situation were reversed, people would start an internet holy war over Apple ripping off Cortana.

Good thing this is here rather than techspy; it's pretty obvious what their response would be:

"Apple never innovates! Look; here's an example of something kinda similar to Siri from 1998 that never took off and didn't work very well! See! Those hacks at Apple! Microsoft has totally taken the concept and flipped it on its head for the better, making it innovative. God I love Microsoft. They're so awesome. Only Apple rips things off"

nosferatuzodd3869d ago

Lol yeah Microsoft is awesome at looking around at every company and steal a little from them windows phone not selling og Microsoft now you're going to make a computer girl strip for its users hope it catches on lol

SilentNegotiator3869d ago (Edited 3869d ago )

@Jeff
It's impressive that you can see my composure through the internet. /s
But I understand that creating a preconceived notion (such as a frenzied emotional state) of someone that you disagree with is easier than debating the person...not that you're doing so, I'm sure.

If you think that all of the exclamations and quick sentences in the pseudo-quote is a sign of me in some state of excitement, let me help you understand something; what I did is called "satire" with the assistance of "hyperbole"

I'm no apple person, but I think the hypocrisy of zealous Apple-haters needs to be addressed.

darthv723869d ago

maybe there is no outrage because between the two AI's...Cortana is the sexier of the two.

just a hunch.

on a similar note. is this a bad thing? i kind of wished my GS2 had a voice that responded to my verbal commands.

the closest i get is my wife on the other end of a call and she doesnt always respond in kind, but that's another story.

dmeador3869d ago

@SilentNegotiator

So you are coming on to a website that doesn't have the hating fanboys (in this variety, haha) in order to stir something up then?

You might not be an apple person, but you sure do come off as someone who is trying too hard to sound intelligent, and come off as pretty condescending.

There isn't much to debate you on. All you did was imply there should be outrage on the site.... ummmm ok? Just sounds to me like you were mad that the newest iPhones didn't bring anything new to the table (other than 64bit), and people on other sites pointed it out.

SilentNegotiator3869d ago (Edited 3869d ago )

So I'm an Apple fanboy with zero Apple products. That's amazing.

"So you are coming on to a website that doesn't have the hating fanboys (in this variety, haha) in order to stir something up then?"

Techspy and N4G are owned by the same company. They're different websites, but they link to each other and any N4G user can click a link and automatically be signed into the other site and vica versa. They're practically conjoined.

"you sure do come off as someone who is trying too hard to sound intelligent"

For pointing out hypocrisy or pointing out that you tried to assert my emotional state from a calm post? Sorry, I'll try to dumb it down.

OpieWinston3869d ago

Everytime I see you on N4G I immediately think "This dumb ass is disrespecting Red"

Get a different pic, because you're disgracing Red.

kkthxbai.

CoLD FiRE3869d ago

How did Microsoft rip off Apple? Windows Phone has had this feature under the name "Tellme" since 2010! Sure it wasn't as advance back then but that's the way technology works.

You should do your research before talk and look stupid.

Gazondaily3868d ago

Oh give it a rest.

"Good thing this is here rather than techspy; it's pretty obvious what their response would be"

So why not shed your crocodile tears there?

2cents3869d ago

Well if this happens then I'm officially mind blown!

I have a new level of respect if they call it/her Cortana.
Im actually excited for the new windows phone now.

Kyur4ThePain3869d ago

THAT's the reason you're excited?

2cents3869d ago

Yes, this is the icing on the cake.
I've been waiting for the new windows mobile OS as I want everything to be in tandem with eachother. Just as I've been waiting for 2nd gen surface pro. I want the perfect ecosystem, windows 8.1, Xbox One, surface pro 2, and windows mobile 8.1 when Micro-Nokia release the beast.

You got a problem with that?

awi59513868d ago

People say its a bad name really? It couldnt be any better lol. IF they are ever able to make a AI its totally life copying Art.

AngelicIceDiamond3869d ago (Edited 3869d ago )

Imma tell her to call me Ice.

Hey Master Chief isn't the only one now who has AI now lol. I hope this gets announce at E3 (surprie X1 cortana announcement) in 2014 (doubt it) but one can hope.

"broker information among our services to bring them together on our devices" with this and the appled fingerprint tech, the NSA will have information on every human alive.

/s

Gamer Muzz3869d ago

Good. Personally, I don't care if the NSA has information on me. In fact, I encourage it. I have nothing to be afraid of.
We also need to consider that the NSA will not be watching everyone all the time as it would take MASSIVE resources to do so. But it is their job to watch specific people and act upon them when necessary.
Humanity as a whole needs to be checked up on. People are downright evil and left to their own devices will do no good. so when they need all the information available to find a criminal, I welcome them having everything possible. The police should have this info too.
now all we need are street judges on the job.

Sprudling3869d ago

Yes, people are evil, and both NSA and the police consists of people. Who's gonna watch over the watchers?

grassyknoll3869d ago

I'm shocked people agree with you. A government that spies on its own citizens is a enemy of its those citizens. It starts out as a focus on "terror", then leads on to ethnic & social groups. This is the way Hitler & Stalin would use modern technology.

ravinash3869d ago (Edited 3869d ago )

That’s all well and fine while a government you agree with is in power.
But what happens when the opposition is elected and start doing things you disagree with.
It only takes you saying something on a social media group for you to become the target.

Mystogan3869d ago

I thought I was the only one who thought that is a good thing. Well Said +1

Gamer Muzz3869d ago (Edited 3869d ago )

Having information on you. Your finger print, ETC., is not spying. I support the need for the government to have all available information on it's citizens.
Everyone thinks the world will become George Orwell's 1984 or something and I don't see it as a possible future for the united states.

As for "Spying".
Hypothetically speaking, If someone is suspected of making a bomb they plan to use on American soil to hurt/kill American Citizens, the Government has every right to spy on them. In fact, the government would be criticized for NOT doing so. We all know that much is true. It's beyond contestation.

it's not like the government has the time, resources, or desire to spy on me any of you.

Death3869d ago

According to Apple, the fingerprint data is stored on your iphone only. If the government obtained your fingerprint illegally without just cause, a warrant, arrest etc, it would be thrown out of court. We have a judicial system in this country for a reason. It protects the citizens from unjust prosecution.

sAVAge_bEaST3869d ago (Edited 3869d ago )

@Gamer Muzz- Wow your brainwashed.- or a corporate shill.

Humanity as a whole does "not" need to be checked up on by the Nanny State, aka Big Brother,. The people setting up these control grids are the Evil ones, breeding Mis-trust and fear. ., working in secret against their fellow man. We were born with are God given rights to be free, think free, and talk free,.
Hitler, Stalin , & Mao. are the type of people, that promote covert spying, and big brother type surveillance. The evil ones -fear free thinkers, and sent them away as political prisoners.

"Fascism should more properly be called corporatism because it is the merger of state and corporate power." -- Benito Mussolini - something --Like the NSA, and Microsoft.

ChozenWoan3869d ago

If you want to live in a country that keeps all it's citizens 1000% safe from terrorism then I hear North Korea could always use a few more "workers."

It's sad that everything that happened 100 years ago is happening again... do anyone pay attention in history class anymore.

Gamer Muzz3869d ago (Edited 3869d ago )

@sAVAge_bEaST
You're a moron. I'm not brainwashed. Nor am I a Shill. Just how deep does your paranoia go anyway? LOL
This is not surveillance, this is the accumulation and organization of information. It is not illegal, nor is it "Spying". If a person is suspect or under investigation, this information SHOULD ABSOLUTELY be used to expediently investigate the individual.

Like i'm going to take criticism from a conspiracy theorist who's delusions of grandeur are so great, that he actually believes the government wants to watch him. LOL
Like I said before. I just don't care. No one has reason or need to watch me. I'm a business owner, Veteran, and overall I try to be a good citizen. If you're going to fall under investigation of the NSA (or whatever), there's a reason for it.

And for the record, Corporations already rule the world. Where the Heck have you been? LOL

sAVAge_bEaST3869d ago

I am not paranoid in the slightest, or Fear an imaginary terrorist,. I do not support trading in our liberty and freedom, for the sake of "security", because as our Forefathers warned if you do that, you lose both.

I Love this country dearly,. Everything it is supposed to represent, such as freedom, liberty, and justice. Corporations, and Governments, working in tandem will only lead to mistreatment of the people, the Government is supposed to represent,.

I like how you have to resort to childish name calling, such as moron, to try to disprove, or lesson my point,.

I am just fully aware of what is happening, and believe your views my be detrimental, to our children's future.

Gamer Muzz3869d ago (Edited 3869d ago )

@sAVAge_bEaST
This does nothing to take your liberties away. Having information on people is not the same as spying on people. That's what you seem to miss here.
Governments and corporations "working together" is fine. it's when Corporations have control in government issues that it's a problem.
That said, If the NSA wants to use the information that a corporation has on me, whether it's my online interactions, thumbprint from my phone, or to look into my home VIA my webcam, because I'm suspected of a crime, then so be it. The corporation should absolutely work with the government.
I'm not willing to say someones privacy is more important than human lives.

You Love your country so much? As it happens, I too Love my country and my freedoms. I wonder if you joined the service and put your life on the line for it like I did. That's how I showed my patriotism. But, I also love justice and value human life.In a country of 315+ million people, it's a very good idea to have as much information as possible in the event that lives are in jeopardy.

You called me brainwashed so I called you a moron. You resort to judging my intellect and beliefs and get huffy because I think it's moronic? The shoe fits. Don't be a moron and I wont call you one.
You want to speak with me, remember, you get what you give.

awi59513868d ago (Edited 3868d ago )

@sAVAge_bEaST

Its already happening more and more the government is helping the corporations treat us like the Chinese slave labor they are both so fond of.

1. Getting paid every week gone

2. Paid 1 hour lunch breaks gone

3. Overtime pay they have all types of tricks to screw you out of it.

4. Vacation days they switched it to hours so they can cut the days you take off or what they have to pay you.

5. sick days you either show up or get fired whether you have a doctors note or not.

6. Health care costs goes up each year and it still doesnt cover crap no matter what they pull out of your check.

7. Can no longer join a Union to be treated fairly. They just threaten to move to china for cheap slave labor. So you just have to be satisfied as being treated in the U.S as a slave worker the only difference you get paid more. But its still far less that what your grandparents was getting paid if you adjust for inflation.

8. And the minimum wage is a total joke because its so slow to be adjusted for cost of living.
