I don't get the controversy. Yea, the M16A3 was the best all around gun in BF3. Then it got patched along with the M416 and the M416 crushed it in every aspect.

Its not even a debate...if you ever played a platoon match on an infantry-centric map (bazaar, Seine,...metro...)...there was NO alternative to the M16A3 after the last bit of patching...of course there were the rogue guys that thought there were being cool by using something else, but if you followed symthic and knew the fundamentals of the actual weapons instead of intangible 'feel'...the m16A3 was, by far, the most advantageous weapon in multiple situations...with very few draw backs...

least recoil, highest accuracy, 2nd to longest range, in the top for bullet speed, and in the top 3 for cadence...Shortest in AR reload time, which was faster than some pistols...Its time to kill was a few ms lower than the famas, aek, and f2000...but far superior accuracy, recoil, overall ease of use...that was never a tangible con...

I don't like the M16 in any FPS game. Just not my style.

I'd rather manually burst fire and control my own shots than have the gun do it for me.

Suprised? Lol. The M16 is the best allrounder weapon in BF3 and is one of the most used weapon in the whole game. It wasn't OP, but it was good in any situation. The last 10 games i played, 70% of the whole enemy team ran around with this weapon :(.

Bad Mistake DICE. It used to be the top tier weapon but The new OP weapon is the M416. Why? Kobra, Foregrip, Heavy Barrel and shoot it in bursts of 5 = No Recoil gun.

lol, that sucks. Usually I get killed by snipers or tanks...cant say I have any problem dealing with most infantry regardless of what weapon they have..unless of course its a sniper picking me off from a distance where my M416 cant return the favour.

@Trunkz I have to dissagree about the M416 being overpowered..maybe its lag but I still have to put quiet a few slugs in enemy players to put them down.

I usually just go with grenadelauncher/foregrip and red dot sight. I keep it fully auto but fire in bursts.and squad suppress fire perk.

It is the default weapon so it makes sense that it is more common people start unlocking attachments right away and they stick with it instead of having to start over with a new gun.

if you're saying the Famas was never OP, you simply never used it when B2K came out...it was patched just a month or so later, so its reign didn't last as long as something like the usas w/ frags did...but at B2K's release...it was simply ridiculous...

grip, holo, suppressor...no looking back...DICE even admitted there was a recoil reduction bug, as well as a damage bug with the above set up...the FAMAS didn't have a decrease to bullet speed, or distance, and therefor the damage modifier in place when using a suppressor...1000 rounds/min out to 980 meters with pinpoint accuracy...all with nearly complete silence haha...you could drop anyone without trying, the only time you'd ever get killed when carrying one was because of the 4 second reload...

Back after release for those of us who actually bothered with the co-op stuff I unlocked the G3A3 and the gun was amazing. However shortly after they normalized almost all of the rifles for a while and the G3 was completely destroyed since it has the slowest all around AR firing rate.

They patch it back up to do more damage but they reduced its damage over range horribly. The gun was pretty much useless after that. which is just sad.

That's not right. Im glad they took out the M16 and made it to the M16A4, it was the best weapon in the game and almost every medic used that weapon. Everyone that thinks M16 was not overused and the best weapon in the game has no idea. Everyone wanted to have more firefights in BF4 except M16 vs M16. Even LVLCap says that and he uses the gun most of the times.

There's a reason why the M16 the most used weapon. Everyone that crys that this weapon isn't there anymore is probably someone with Gold Star 100 on this weapon.

actually I hardly ever used the M16 but ya it was the most used gun because it was the most efficient killing tool. if business got serious and I had trouble taking someone down because of it, well I just switched to that weapon and we are even.

nobody is forced to use it, but at the same time there is nothing stopping you from using it either. I don't get this special code of conduct while playing games that says you cannot use the most powerful weapon in order to prove yourself...

infact I think it's a bit stupid. In the real world some guns are better then others. You think the US army should give up using M16's because it's not fare for their enemies who are using AK47s ?

we all get it...yes, you can combat a 'fire' of enemies by using the same 'fire'...but then what is the point of having 60+ primary weapons when only one of them is a true way to counter the problem?...that isn't exactly fun...many of us play battlefield, especially its world class persistence, because of the thousands of different weapon combinations available...balance problems to the degree they were in bf3 were bad enough that in order to remain remotely competitive...you HAD to use the same weapon...

this was mostly only an issue with actual platoon matches...and even then only an issue on infantry focused maps...yes, i get it, you can try and 'out smart' the enemy team with various tactics and a different load out...but, to be blunt, if it worked...it only worked because the opposing team sucked...I've been on the defensive end with nearly my entire team running assault with an M16A3, only a support or two to drop boxes for ammo...we could hold ANY attack no matter what they tried...and we weren't some stand out platoon, we're just a group of decently competent friends...

I'm not even sure why i typed all that...just look at symthic.com...its not some conspiracy, or 'i don't understand why people complain about the m16a3'...its simply fundamentally built with way too many advantages, and not a single disadvantage...it is above average on EVERY SINGLE aspect...tops the lists as down right best in multiple variables...and isn't even just average on anything...DICE claimed the M16A3 was the 'middle ground' for balance...in reality...they set the standards for the M16...and then played pick and choose what aspects of every other weapon are worse...from a design standpoint, thats not doing it right...

Try and find a platoon match where the leaders agree on no M16A3's...which is pretty much a unanimous decision among veteran platoons...the matches are 5x as fun, and 10x as unpredictable...when its so clearly illustrated by the simple removal of one weapon, you really have a balance problem...

People who need 3d spotting, minimap to get any kinda kills going on and as soon as you shoot at them they fucking bunny-hop like lil c**ts across the road, those were the people who also complained about choppers being overpowered (because in their view 1 man army should bring down everything) so DICE removed flares, below radar and left that half ass broken jammer... Now choppers are death coffins, all the noobs are complaining and making up their retarded rules in rented servers where you get booted for using that type of equipment or where is allowed you see squads of engineers just sitting on rocks with stiglas. I like the fact they got rid of the A3 variant , was worried when I saw the gun list they got rid of the A4 but its the opposite. Idk maybe it's just me but all I use is burst fire rifles an to me, there shouldn't be 8-10 AR's that are fully automatic. If DICE wants to try to make there game as realistic as possible then game should have more burst fire weapons , because besides an MG not many people are blasting fully auto at targets in real life, just doesn't happen, have you ever seen a grown man try to stand up an shoot a fully auto M16, 1 bullet out the clip might hit his target.

well, imo, and pertaining to BF3...'rebalance' isn't really part of DICE's vocabulary...sure, they 'change' stuff all the time...but the balance remains pretty much identical...

So for a while one gun is by far the obvious best...so DICE releases a change patch...then some other gun is the obvious best...and they keep doing it...instead of making very marginal small changes to particular weapons...they'd drastically buff and nerf this and that to just rearrange some load outs...the end result being there was still a single weapon that 98% of a team would use...

BF3 never figured out the team work part...nearly every single game change was towards an individual player...it became easier for one idiot to spam igla's...less c4 to open a tank...rpg damage was increased...tank armor decreased...Jets were constantly BUFFED, which is funny as its the only vehicle used by a single person...etc...so, i hope with bf4 at least, they've stepped away from future balancing...they've proven its sort of too much to bother with...just release the game and patch the bugs...hopefully its close enough at launch...

Maybe we should complain about coward snipers who sit a thousand miles away with 1 kill 7 deaths and only 200 points like 15 minutes into the game and don't help out at all. Maybe they'll add something that will put a yellow flag on top of the player to let everyone know he's a coward and should be removed from the team. Or better yet, those idiots who run away from a base as the enemy is taking over the flag. We should complain about them. Or the simple fact there's a freaking mini map on hardcore mode, which makes no sense.

I agree with u about pussys not contributing to the team effort! Really annoys me when someone sticks a spawn beacon at the highest point on the map and u get a group of 5 or 6 snipers all camping out and bumming each other for an entire match while the enemy has captured all the flags.

AUG was my staple for awhile, then switched to P90 and MP7 here and there, eventually to the M16A3, M416 and bounced around here and there on a few others but nothing for too long. My juggernauts currently are the AN-94 ( not horribly good close quarters but is accurate enough to outsnipe average to decent snipers long range ) and the M5K... I drop people like flies with this beast and still get amazing multi-kills to this day.

Long story short... taking this gun out wouldn't bother me and I rarely see an M16A3 get the better of me. Especially not if I'm holding a M5K close range and no fucking way against the AN-94 long range.
