Reminder: 'GTA 5' Requires An 8 GB Installation On PS3 And 360

Forbes - We all know that GTA 5 is going to be a massive game in terms of what it brings to the market, but it’s also a massive game, literally.

It would be cool if they could allow us to install more if we so choose to help increase performance or textures. I wouldn't mind a 16GB install if I got additional benefit from it.

Hell I would install the whole game so I never have to worry about having the disc in and can hop in anytime, I'd get the digital version but its gta I need that map and guide and case in my collection.

On topic: getting the midnight launch but clearly won't play it that night w such a massive install abd I work tuesday...but I'm off wed and thursday so come tuesday night ill be playing till I work on friday!

Why get it midnight if you're not gonna play it? Get it from Amazon, if you're from the UK it's cheaper than anywhere else right now.

Plus, the install should only take about 10 minutes, if that.

I was about to say.. an 8GB install is large for a console but I wouldnt expect it to last past 20 mins, worst case scenario.

More than likely, this will mitigate extreme load times give as much of a smooth experience as possible. Just taking into consideration how massive this game is supposed to be, I'm honestly shocked than you even have the option to NOT install this to the hard-drive.

This is correct.

Most of the "standard files" will be loaded onto the HD for quick loading, like radio stations, vehicles, pedestrians and audio files, since that's what most players will be using the most or experiencing the most at frequent times.

if im not wrong,anything you buy digital will be installed the whole thing.When I preordered GTA V on ps store ,in the descriptions it said that you have to have at least 36GB free of HDD.I could b wrong.

My 60gig fat just got ylod a few weeks ago, perfect timing as it was when I was getting lots of overtime and upgraded to a 250gig slim. Gta I'm ready for you.

Side note I got the ylod playing TLOU factions, 30 seconds into a match, the ONLY time I've ever played in the downtown map. Still dunno why nobody likes that map as i havent actually played it :(

Actually around 12 gb is roughly an average. But it's close, which is pretty amazing.

Most games are cut in half or "optimized" for the Xbox 360's limited disc space.

The average game before memory "optimization" is between 10 and 16 gigabyte, with higher-end games averaging between 20 and 30 gigabyte.

Max Payne 3 uncompressed is 30 gigabyte

MGS4 was 20 gigabyte

GTA IV uncompressed is 16.4 gigabyte

Assassin's Creed Brotherhood uncompressed was around 16 gigabyte

Saints Row 2 uncompressed is 11 gigabyte

So with the install plus the normal game, GTA V will be around 16 gigabyte, which is double the size of what GTA IV was on the Xbox 360, but then again it's four times as big as GTA IV and has more of everything.

I would say its only bigger than most multiplatform games... Most ps3 exclusives range from 20-50gigs.

I'm also wary buy 5 looks like it put all the fun stuff back in that 4 took out, and then some. I'm looking forward making different scenarios with the character switching, going in and causing trouble with one character and then switching back to cover him with another.

GTA4 was a good game not 10/10 that some gave it but a really good game for the time it came out. People tend to forget it came out VERY early in the consoles life cycle and it was Rockstars first next-gen game so leaping from last gen models to current gen they could do but so much. Now that they had more time to expand upon their tools and ideas I am sure GTA5 will be everything we wanted gta4 to be.

Got a brand new 500gb Super Slim when The Last of US killed my Fat launch model. Apart from the 40 or so gig of free games I just got for joining PSPlus its mostly empty so I'm glad GTA installs if it helps performance.

I'm sure the only way they could achieve such an amazing open world game is to utilize hard drive streaming speeds. Loading from the hard drive is about 10x faster than the disc drives in 360/PS3. Imo this gen would have seen a lot more impressive games if 360 hadn't thrown out HDD standardization.

That's why I bought a replacement PS3 with the 12gb memory & I installed a 1TB hdd....I'm just hoping they release a 2 or 3TB HDD in time for PS4, so I can throw 1 straight into it, as the amount of games I downloaded on my PS3 has eaten through my 1st 60gb hdd, so I upgraded that to a 320gb & ate all that up in a couple of years, then I bought a 500gb slim & chewed up all that memory in no time flat...I wss gonna save the 1TB hdd for my PS4, but ended up having to put it in my recent replacement 12gb PS3.

I prefer physical copies, but I'm really annoyed at games that access the blu-ray and makes alot of noise all the time, and especially when they also have large installs.

Splinter Cell Blacklist needed a 9.5 gig install, and still it accesses the optical drive all the time. Maybe SPB is just badly coded, but these issues are annoying.

If next gen games are even bigger than these latest ones, then 500 gigs won't hold long.

I'm hoping GTAV will perform well though...

its louder on xbox,ps3 I hardly hear and its not that far or if at night I have headphones on I never hear anything
I remember ps2 was terrible at the disk reading sound and I think when games look really good after console been released for awhile they tend to read disks a lot more than first games for new consoles

Yeah I use headphones while playing too, and it's not too bad. Just annoying when there are large installs and it still accesses the drive a lot.

I think my tv bench actually makes the noise worse somehow, it's the same with my Bluray player...

Can somebody please explain. I brought - pre ordered this game on the psn network but it said the download size was only 1.5gb.
This is the 1st pre order ive done on psn. I hope this is the full game I've purchased. If it is why only 1.5gb??

I cant seem to find any info on that,the game size is around 18 gigs and they don't let you download in advance I believe-I can be wrong...idk what is 1.5gig file but ones it hits 12 midnight on Monday I believe you can start downloading

I don't think you need that if you buy digital, only if you play from disc.

But remember you need to have double the space available as the file size when downloading, because it installs it afterwards...

Correct me if i'm wrong, but don't the 360s DVDS only hold 8gb of data? So that would mean it would install the whole game onto the HDD? I wonder if it's the same with the PS3 if that's the case?

Doesn't matter to me though, i've got about 50gb free on my 320gb HDD, my PS3 can take the 8gb :)

You are correct about the size of XB360 discs, but the game will no doubt come on 2 discs for 360, and you install one of them.
