Why Saints Row IV Disappointed Me

GeekParty's Alex Androski writes: "Saints Row IV disappointed me. I’m not just saying this to be different. I’m not even saying Saints Row IV was bad — it’s probably the most fun I’ve had with a game in months. Disappointment is a different criticism. Disappointment is regret at the knowledge that someone isn’t living up to previously-demonstrated potential."

I brought SR4 for $60 Day 1 and I don't regret it at all. The game is pure fun. Looking forward to GTA5 in a week too.

Im loving it, keeping me busy until gta 5

I wonder how the developers would feel about being the game that distracts us until GTA comes out.

It could be disappointing for SR1 and 2 fans (I kind of wanted to be back at the seriousness of these two games) but at the same time, SR3 and this are extremely fun to play.

Just a piece of advice, if you want a good old fashioned fun then this game is for you, but if you wanted to have the same experience you had from the first two games then I hate to disappoint you but...there are aliens and super powers in this game. That's all I have to say :/

seriousness? Saints Row 1 had a fast food resturant called "Freckle Bitches" Clearly you're joking.

FogLight3878d ago

Compare SR1 and 2 to the current SR games now.

SR had parodies every now and then but the main plot was serious in SR1 and 2.

I'm mainly thinking along the lines of gameplay. The plot was a bit serious, but it was still a bit quirky.

Bigpappy3878d ago (Edited 3878d ago )

I was disappointed before it was even released. It has gone too over the top for me. I am not saying that the people who gave it 9/10 and 10/10 are wrong, just that if does not interest me because the direction they took made me loose interest.

@FogKnight22: Looks like we were typing at the same time. Yet what you had to say was a perfect response to what I was saying.

FogLight3878d ago (Edited 3878d ago )

I agree about your opinion that the direction they took betrayed the fans of the SR games before the third game in the series, but if you took away this criticism, you could have fun in SR3 and 4.

But seriously, I feel disappointed that we won't see another serious Saints Row game but at the same time, I wouldn't mind playing the latest SR games just for crazy fun :)

LordMaim3878d ago

I was in the same boat as you. I loved SR2, and was mildly disappointed in the direction they took with Saints Row the Third. I wasn't even going to buy the game at all until I started hearing that despite the ridiculous nature of the plot, it actually tied in the first three games as a coherent whole. Shockingly enough, the stupidity of this game bothered me less than SR3 did. In the end, this game was far better than SR3, and while I miss the tone of SR2 it was still an epic addition to the series.

Volition's Saints Row 4 PC upgrade was meant to be a make-good, but it broke the game instead

Remember this year's Saints Row(opens in new tab)? Volition would probably prefer that you didn't, which might go some way to explaining why the studio recently decided to upgrade everyone's copy of Saints Row 4(opens in new tab) to its full-fat Re-elected Edition, containing all the game's story and cosmetic DLC and even introducing cross-play between Steam, Epic, and GOG versions of the game.

Unfortunately, that upgrade seems to have backfired, and players now report a myriad of bugs with their new version of SR4. Both the Saints Row Steam forums(opens in new tab) and subreddit(opens in new tab) are filled with players complaining of broken saves, crashes, and mods failing to function. It's also received a few hundred negative Steam reviews(opens in new tab) since the update. If it's succeeded in washing the taste of Saints Row (2022) out of players' mouths, it's only because it tastes even worse.

I wonder if Volition's getting reorged under Gearbox impacted the quality of their release.

i can't help but laugh at this comment. Gearbox can't even run themselves.
