Nintendo Has Perfected The HD Remake

The PlayStation 3 currently has some of the best video game HD remakes available. Sony clearly started a trend by giving some of the best PS2 games a complete HD overhaul. This year, Nintendo appears to be really interested in setting a new HD remake standard

chadboban3876d ago

Small correction for the article there, the games runs at 1080p 30fps not 1080p 60fps.

Also this game is damn gorgeous, I found this screenshot while browsing Neogaf.

Goddamn it's beautiful!

Yi-Long3876d ago

... but that beauty and greatness comes mostly from a design-perspective. Not from using amazing graphical power or whatever.

When I saw the newest trailer, I was very happy, but I also wonder how much better it really looks when you compare it to the HD version running on Dolphin.

Just look it up on Youtube: It looks fantastic as well.

ChickeyCantor3876d ago

Depends on your opinion I guess. People really love the simple use of graphics of the original in HD ( not like the gamecube could have done more ).

I've actually tried WW in 1080p and it looks really good. But imo I like the new shaders and texture far better in the remake. And images don't always do it justice. I can only imagine this game looking way better while you're playing it.

chadboban3876d ago (Edited 3876d ago )

Oh c'mon man, I just said that it looks beautiful, you don't have to be all "Well it's not because of amazing graphical power or whatever". I didn't say anything about the Wii U being a powerhouse system or anything like that so I'd appreciate it if you didn't treat me like I did. Doesn't change the fact that the game is beautiful though.

I've played it in dolphin myself actually and I personally think this looks better. The improved textures and new lighting really adds a lot to the visual presentation of the game in my opinion. They did a lot more than just change the resolution.

Comparison video between GC and Wii U

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

Baka-akaB3876d ago (Edited 3876d ago )

I guess i'm in a fringe minority then . While i can appreciate a lot of work was put into this , especially to get it at 1080p@60 fps ... i dont like how overly satured in colors and bloom the remake is compared to the original .

Maybe it wont be that way when i demo the real thing , but some textures seems to even become washed out and blurry like the green grass losing details to become a shiny flat green surface . In the comparison video , you loose small details of the usual imperfection on the road track , and it becomes a flat yellow track . And bunch of stuff like that

Or maybe i need to check out my eyes already

thezeldadoth3876d ago

HD dolphin version is really nice, but this looks better by far. its more than visuals as well, they tweaked the gameplay and the missions to make a more seamless experience.

Realplaya3876d ago

Wind waker with dolphin can't hold a candle to the Wii U version. Don't get me wrong it's nice but wow I had the game on the cube and if I didn't have a Wii U I would get one for this game alone.

Shok3876d ago

Pretty sure Windwaker HD runs in 60 fps. I think you're getting the 30 fps from some of the demos people have played, but the final product should be 60 fps.

But yeah it's a gorgeous looking game.

chadboban3876d ago

Heard it form people with review copies. It's apparently 30fps according to them.

FlyingFoxy3876d ago

Should be, it would be kind of unacceptable to run at a low framerate of 30.

Even MK8 looks great and that is going to run at 60.

chadboban3876d ago

I tweeted Josh Thomas from TheBitBlock, he has a review copy and he says it's 30fps.

https://twitter.com/TheBitB...

Don't see why it really matters though, the game runs smooth as hell anyways.

Qrphe3875d ago (Edited 3875d ago )

>Pretty sure Windwaker HD runs in 60 fps.

There is very little basis for this beyond Nintendo's comments about 60fps for their other games. Speculation can get out of hand, just like it has with those being dead-sure MK8, DK:TF, 3D World, X, etc will be 1080p60fps.

That was always my favorite Island in WW.

Shadowsteal3876d ago (Edited 3876d ago )

It is gorgeous and true both Microsoft and Nintendo gave both of their legendary titles a full remake such has Halo, Windwaker, and coming up Fable.

But Sony and their partners had so many games to remake, it would've been impossible to give them all a premium remake due to development time

Ratchet & Clank 3 games for $30
Jak & Daxter 3 games for $40
Sly Cooper 3 games for $40
Shadow of the Colossus & Ico $40
FFX and FFX/2 $40 2 games for $40
Kingdom Hearts 1.5 3 games for $40
God of War 1&2 2 games for $40
God of War Chains of Olympus & Ghost of Sparta 2 games for $40
God of War Saga 5 games for(Including God of war 3) $50

So for Windwaker to charge a $50 price tag i feel as if it's slightly steep and I'm spoiled from the prices and value I got from other remakes. That said I will def. pick this up at one point since I never had a gamecube, but when it's around <$20. Because I'm going to be playing GTAV when Windwaker HD releases.

But nevertheless the game looks gorgeous, so vibrant and dynamic looking. Reminds me of the art-style used in Ratchet and Clank: A crack in time. Simply beautiful.

Moncole3876d ago

They could have hired a third party stdio to make it a great HD remake instead of just updating the resolution.

Shadowsteal3876d ago (Edited 3876d ago )

All of those remakes were done by 3rd party Studios. To do full remakes is time and money wasted. If they did that where would they find the time to create PS4 games, PS Vita games, and games like The Last of Us, Beyond: Two Souls, Puppeteer, Gran Turismo 6 and etc.

Nintendo and Microsoft didn't mass remake their titles just a select few were remade. Halo and Fable and Ocarina of Time and Windwaker. Sony has too many titles from PS2 era to justify a full hd remake on every one of them. And besides I wouldn't trust the quality of a full remake on a 3rd party a full remake should be done by 1st parties since they would know what to fix and add.

Theyellowflash303876d ago

All of the games you listed are HD ports. This is a HD REMAKE with added features like MiiVerse, Gamepad controls, Hero Mode, faster sailing, ect

Comparing the two is moot, its not the same.

DarkHeroZX3876d ago

@yellowflash

You are aware that most of those HD ports use the PS3/Vita/360's features as well. I don't remember the originals having trophies or achievements on top of other features.

Shadowsteal3876d ago

@Yellowflash

Games like FFX HD and Kingdom Hearts HD are receiving fixes and some scenes are replaced with higher quality ones and music for both these titles are being remastered. So it's not that far off to make a comparison. Besides I enjoy experiencing games the way they were originally meant to be experienced. Such as MGS1 I played MGS1 after MGS2 and MGS3 to catch up with the story before MGS4. And despite the aged graphics and control scheme, I enjoyed the hell out of it and MGS1's story is timeless. The remake that featured on gamecube altered certain scenes and made certain cut scenes over the top and away from the original vision. But to each his own right? :)

FamilyGuy3876d ago

Damn, I want this but... it cost money :(

Yi-Long3876d ago

@Chadboban: I have a feeling you either misread me, or misunderstood me, or whatever.

Yes, it's a gorgeous game. No, I didn't intend to 'insult' the graphical power of the WiiU or anything.

I was just admiring the fantastic design of the game, which is the reason why it looks good, has always looked good, and will always look good, regardless of hardware specs or resolution.

It's just a stunning game from a visual design POV. It all just 'works'.

Kinda like how I feel Sonic 1 and 2 are still amazing games to watch, as well as Super Mario World. It's because the design behind it is so great. The characters, the backgrounds, the music, etc etc. It's just FUN to be in those worlds. They're 'convincing', without being 'realistic'.

I really think you took what was meant as a massive compliment to the game and Nintendo, and somehow turned it into something negative.

Yes it's gorgeous, but the beauty absolutely comes from the visual design of it all.

chadboban3876d ago (Edited 3876d ago )

Oh okay, sorry if I misread you there buddy. Didn't mean to take your comment as a negative. I agree with you though, the design and artstyle really shines through in a game like Wind Waker, even 10 years later.

3-4-53876d ago

An HD remake of a 10+ year old game looks better than 95% of NEW games on the market today.

That shows TRUE talent and not just reliance on tech.

I've never played Wind Waker being that the last Nintendo console I owned was a Super Nintendo (I chose playstation one over N64 and playstation 2 over Gamecube)...but this game has always peaked my interest, aesthetically it's unlike any other game I've seen in the Zelda franchise and besides the one on N64 is the only Zelda game I remember seeing my friend (a die hard nintendo fan play to high hell)...nonetheless HD or not it looks dope, 30fps or 60fps it looks dope and I'm sure plays just fine

ape0073876d ago

this gotta be the best HD remake ever along with Halo CE anniversary

TheLyonKing3876d ago

Now if only they could perfect the new ip

Xof3876d ago

Astonishing. Nintendo has managed to perfect the HD Remake without remaking a single game. Ever.

Simply astonishing.

Where Are The Wind Waker And Twilight Princess Switch Remasters At?

Nintendo is a weird company. It has the most illustrious legacy of any single company in the medium and seldom chooses to take advantage of that fact. Countless classics are confined to their original platforms or only available through outdated retail models or a cheeky bit of emulation.

I want a Twilight Princess HD for the Switch I would day one it right now.

GoodGuy09577d ago

This holiday would've been great and it would've calmed my hunger for tears of the kingdom. It supposedly exists but why has it taken this long I wonder. Here's hoping it still releases before totk, maybe a trailer at the game awards and a shadow drop.

Double_O_Revan577d ago

I wouldn't hope too hard. The Metroid Prime Trilogy or even just Prime 1 remaster supposedly exists and has been complete for several years now. Either Nintendo are evil bastards, or everyone claiming it's existence is full of shit. Frankly, I believe both scenarios to be true.

Immagaiden577d ago

Wii U was such a great to play every 3D Zelda game and various 2D ones as well

It'd be nice if Switch caught up to that wealth of legacy content

Inverno577d ago

Booted up WW HD through emulation on Deck. Forgot how much I like that game, it's so charming with how expressive Link is. Ninty has taken too long.

ZeekQuattro577d ago

Nintendo wants the focus on tears of the kingdom. Though with these year Zelda old rumors I question if the collection ever existed for the Switch. Much like the Prime Trilogy that evolved into a remake or remaster of just Prime 1 in recent months.

The 3DS and Wii U eShop is shutting down in 2023 - download these games before they’re gone

If they're not important enough to be held on their own official storefront then they're not important enough to give your money to Nintendo.

Buy these, physically, used or simply emulate them.

This article comes off as nothing more than advertising games that Nintendo, themselves, don't care to offer you... buy now!

ocelot07785d ago

Wait hang on where all the outrage? I swear when Sony tried to do this with PS3 last year. There was outrage from all corners of the gaming universe.

Why does no one care Nintendo is doing it?

MadLad785d ago (Edited 785d ago )

There has been.
A lot of it.

Simply type in "3DS" in Google and tell me what you see.

ocelot07784d ago

Oh I have a fair few websites reporting on it. But where is the outcry on here? I remember their was 2-3 approved top voted articles when Sony announced they where closing the PS3 store. All slating them and not caring about customers.

I should of worded it better. Where is all the outrage on n4g?

MadLad784d ago (Edited 784d ago )

N4G is a fanboy site, mainly frequented by only Sony.
Microsoft is their direct competition, so you'll typically only see articles that are made to rile up those fanbases.

Nintendo does it's own thing, so they're rarely brought up, aside from their fans. The most you get is the same typical two or three posters claiming Nintendo is only for infants.

If you come to N4G for educated discourse and reasonable discussion, this isn't the place. Sad as it is.

pietro1212784d ago

It's lame that it is shutting down. Now I feel rushed buying all the rpgs I missed out on the system.

XxINFERNUSxX784d ago

You guys know that even archive.org has 3DS roms, and all other console roms. I'm downloading 846GB of 3DS roms and will add the best games to my soon to be soft modded New 3DS 😁. Might as well throw in DS and other emulators in there to. Guys this would be the best way to play and enjoy the 3DS. Just need to buy a bigger micro SD card and format it to FAT32, which you can if it's even 256GB or larger there are ways.

XxINFERNUSxX784d ago

This should help if you want to soft mod it excellent guide and up to the latest and probably last 3DS firmware update: https://www.youtube.com/wat...
